DH sending DS away for my birthday and doesn't seem to want to have family time

It's my birthday tomorrow. I'm not really one for big birthday blow outs or anything but was looking forward to a nice day out with my family. Turns out that DH has arranged for MIL to take DS for the afternoon and evening (so we can have dinner - which I agree is nice). She's just messaged to say could we drop him off at noon because she's taking him to the beach, can we make sure he has wellies and rain suit etc. I feel gutted that I won't get to have a day with my boy on my birthday.

We've both taken annual leave this week - ages ago I suggested we take DS to an open air museum which has a farm about an hour's drive away. I originally suggested it for earlier in the week but it was raining, and the forecast looked better for the end of the week so switched it round to today. Yesterday, DH made himself an appointment for mid-morning today, so we won't actually get there until the afternoon. Feels like whatever I do I won't actually get a nice day out with my boy. I'm half tempted to just take DS while DH is out but I know he'd be upset by that.

Just feeling a bit down Sad

Maybe your husband would just like to spend some time with you on your own? That sounds like a really good thing to me.

I would take your son early today, your DH can join you later. You took annual leave to do stuff, not wait for him to finish meetings.
