To ask if you love to swim, and water, what would you want your funeral in terms of flowers/gifts?

My classmates and I are trying to come up with something to give her teacher who passed away in a fire along with his father on Easter Sunday. The teacher tried to swim across Lake Michigan in 2016, and was always very fond of swimming in the water. He wrote a book trying to educate children about water pollution and was also very passionate about the subject. I will be doing all of the arrangements, and I’m just wondering if along with flowers, we should donate to a water conservation project as well? Does anybody have any ideas of any organizations in the US, since that’s where I grew up and that’s where he was living. In Indiana. Also, different thing, but none of us knew his dad? What would you say in a card since both of them will be buried together.

At first I was going to just send flowers and memories on my own, but all of us really liked him as he was very positive and always supported us. So I asked the other students if they would like to send something from all of us, but most of them are on very low income,

If it's doable a boat/anchor/anchor shaped wreath would be a lovely touch.

That is the really, really good idea! Thank you. He would have loved that.

Could you do a sponsored event in his name, for Wateraid or similar?

That would be another very good idea. He was very exceptional person, so we really want to do something special here.

How about this OP great lakes alliance

They work on Lake Michigan amongst others and seems to have lots of initiatives/fund raising stuff going on.

Thank you, apocalypse. I really hope everything goes well. Both he and his father‘s funerals or on Saturday morning together. Nobody can believe they’re dead though. He was posting on Facebook on Sunday wishing everybody a happy Easter, and he put up a beautiful picture of the sunset and Easter bunnies and then that evening they were gone. Hard to believe. He was one of the most positive people I knew and he had so much patience with us, even as teenagers other at a residential special-needs school with all of her hormones. Our hormones, sorry I’m using dictation. I remember one day I was upset, and he hoisted me above his head and spun me around. We were in South Carolina at the Southeastern regional sports games and I think I had just lost a race. We used to have the meets at this Marine base and I remember during the swimming event, which he coached, I came in dead last and all of the US Marines were around the pool cheering me on to finish. 😂

He will be very very missed.
