To be pissed off with my cat

MozzchopsThirty · 04/04/2018 21:45

I'm ok when she kills little shrews or small birds, that's what cats do!

Today I got home to what can only be described as a murder scene!!!!!
She had dragged a magpie through the utility room window, it was as big as her!
There was blood everywhere and I mean everywhere, all over the white goods, pools of it on the floor, all up the door, the walls, it was hideous
The bird was twitching on the floor, I got it outside and had to phone the RSPCA as it was suffering but I couldn't kill it!
Ds2 traumatised and wants to bury it tomorrow

It took me 2 hours to clean up, I've locked the cat out and I'm so pissed off!

I've got four feline murderers so come Summer I am inundated with carcasses. PrincessBazCat likes to bring home frogs, which her brother DimBazCat duly steals and eats or pretends he killed it. GingerBazCat likes to catch sparrows and drag baby birds out of nests. OldBazCat likes to bring home mice/birds half dead and finish them off by drowning them in his waterbowl. Fucking sadists the lot of them.

Cakeycakecake · 04/04/2018 22:10

I have a new cat now. So far she’s brought me nothing. I have no back door either, so if she thinks she’s getting anything past me she can get to fuck.

CharlieandLolaCat · 04/04/2018 22:11

@ShutUpBaz laughed out loud at OldBazCat - that sounds horrific. For all concerned!

ZanyMobster · 04/04/2018 22:11

OMG, ours are 8 months and don't go out at all, I am so glad about this as I'm not sure I'd cope. My friend's cat leaves mice in her bed regularly!!

MrsMaxwell · 04/04/2018 22:11

My cat is scared of mice Blush

jaseyraex · 04/04/2018 22:12

When I was little we lived on a sixth floor flat and our cat used to catch birds when they landed on the bloody edge of the balcony. Even indoor cats can be bastards!

ShutUpBaz · 04/04/2018 22:13

Honestly Charlie he is nearly 13 years old and is not quite right in the head! I end up just shutting the kitchen door till the splashes/squeaks stop!

MumofBoysx2 · 04/04/2018 22:13

I had a cat once who did this. I put two bells on the collar which was quite noisy and stopped the killing!

Dobbythesockelf · 04/04/2018 22:14

Only one of my cats is a decent hunter and she only brings home mice every now again. My other cat once tried to 'catch' a Jack daw only problem it was on the other side of a window and he just ran head first into said window. He is really talented at catching tied up crisp packets though haha.

Echobelly · 04/04/2018 22:16

YANBU! Fortunately so far my cat has only brought in intact dead things that aren't very bloody. I have a friend who lives in the countryside and has a cat that has been know to bring in half a rabbit with its guts hanging out everywhere, and this friend is a wheelchair user so cleaning it up cannot be easy!

Itsnotanthrax · 04/04/2018 22:17

Mine attacked a goose once. A fucking goose.
Thankfully I was at work so my lovely neighbour managed the aftermath of that paticular incident.

Els1e · 04/04/2018 22:20

Mine only brings in leaves too which I am grateful for. He is now 14, so hopefully is not likely to build on his current hunting skills.

AwkwardPaws27 · 04/04/2018 22:20

My boy was allegedly an absolute menace to local wildlife in his last home (including leaving a dead bird on the chest of an unfortunate person who was napping on the sofa).
Since living with me he wears a large metal name tag and a bell on the same ring, so they clink together as he walks - we've had no kills and I've had him 6 years (he did once catch a toad, but promptly dropped it and he was high as a kite for hours).

Might be worth a try?

mrswarthog · 04/04/2018 22:22

Mine are Bengals so small dog sized. So far this year the Holocaust has been:-
A fox (seriously)
5 squirrels
Innumerable rats and mice
2 magpies- although I managed to rescue & release one
5 pigeons
2 crows
Several fledglings
Many worms
Assorted straws (mainly McDonald's for some reason)
Mine are fully belled-up and we live in a really urban area so am confused.
Little bastards.

AnneElliott · 04/04/2018 22:23

My little cat was once almost catnapped by a piegeon. She'd grabbed it, but it was twice her size and was flapping down the garden, almost taking off. Luckily she let go before it got airborne.

The other cat brought in a frog once - that was a low point. It went under the cupboard, and I had to prise it out with a ruler and into the biscuit tin.

pandarific · 04/04/2018 22:23

Ours has a passion for earthworms. WORMS. Every morning a new present. Thank you very much Squeaky, the Great Black Worm-Destroyer of the South East.

beardymcbeardy · 04/04/2018 22:24

Nothing worse than cat 'gifts'. Worst dcat brought me was a family of birds being mummy bird and 3 tiny baby birds left in a nice row along my bed. I always imagined some poor daddy bird flying back to an empty nest and never knowing what happened to his family 😭 or the time he brought in a live baby rabbit carrying in like a kitten in his mouth. Took me half an hour to catch the rabbit as it kept running under furniture. I once saw dcat trying to fight a seagull that was twice it's size. Needless to say he lost!

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 04/04/2018 22:24

I have no cats but am PMSL at this thread! Easter Grin

Teachtolive · 04/04/2018 22:25

The bell thing can backfire in the worst way sometimes. The crafty bastards learn to move without jingling the bell and end up becoming stealthier hunters.

DMCWelshCakes · 04/04/2018 22:28

Our cats are fuckers. I hate them. Murdery little bastards.

Bells make no difference here either.

GlitterNails · 04/04/2018 22:30

My cat was a bugger for hunting until a wildlife rescue (where I’d taken one of his injured catches) told me to get a liberator collar. It beeps and flashes when they get into pounce mode.
Had it on him for about a year - and he’s not brought anything in since.

Had the collar off about three/four years and he still hasn’t.

So very much worth a try!

tillytoodles1 · 04/04/2018 22:31

One of my cats was a terrible hunter, she brought everything in, usually half dead and left it squeaking until we finished it off. Sady, she was poisoned. My current cat is 14 with no teeth, she chases leaves.

Fabpinky · 04/04/2018 22:32

I found a dead bird in my griddle pan last week. The cat must had been throwing it about and lost it. Blergh

SaucyJane · 04/04/2018 22:38

Christ - it's no wonder wild bird populations are plummeting SadSadSad

I do like cats but this thread is putting me right off them!

chirpyburbycheapsheep · 04/04/2018 22:40

A fox??!!! mrswarthog You mean a full sized one?!

My cat was a bit of a wimp and was regularly bullied by a pair of magpies. He used to climb onto the roof where the magpies were stood and then they would look at him and let him get ever closer and closer until he was right next to them and then jump up into the air and cackle to one another. Then they would all start over a little further along the roof. My cat never outwitted them.

He had a habit of not finishing off all the mice he brought in though which meant they would often crawl into shoes and bags and quietly expire only to be later found by an unfortunate hand or foot.
