Not to buy stuff online from companies that think the North doesn't exist?

I'm looking at you Uniqlo - loads of branches in London and Home Counties and nothing at all in the rest of the country. Is our money not good enough?
Today I have had an e-mail from Rituals inviting me to attend a special evening. Very nice but I'm in Leeds and my closest branch is over 100 miles away in Leicester whereas there are 11 branches in London. I'm not likely to buy smelly stuff online without being able to sniff it beforehand so what's the point?

We've not long got a Morrisons in my small Scottish town. I really rate it. The veg and meet are both good and it's priced on a par with Lidl.

BathshebaKnickerStickers · 04/04/2018 18:34

I live in Aberdeen - loads of places that use couriers won’t deliver to us (despite the airport and stuff)...

I love Booths on a trip to the lakes and always nip in to Waitrose in Stirling (furthest north one) when we are in the central belt.

I was in Inverness Starbucks yesterday (on hols somewhere even more remote)

OJZJ · 04/04/2018 18:53

Works Both Ways....Lots of northern department Stores or chains don't have stores down South... Not i miss them

squeezylemons · 04/04/2018 18:55

I wouldn’t complain too much. I get annoyed by living in London and missing out on bargain stores.

vinceb · 04/04/2018 18:55

The where?

ItWillAllBeFine · 04/04/2018 19:04

Another “ you think you’ve got it bad... try living in NI” complaint. So annoyed by “UK” firms who won’t deliver here. And by the way- the “UK” wealth map that someone posted earlier was nothing of the sort. Last time I looked ( and regardless of if I or anyone else likes it or not) it’s the United Kingdom of Great Britain AND NORTHERN FECKING IRELAND.

mylifestory · 04/04/2018 19:15

There are equally shops in the north that arent in london, b & m comes to mind bt im sure theres many others. Also london is a big place, there could be 1 store and ur in london still 10 miles from it

ForalltheSaints · 04/04/2018 19:21

The unreasonableness if there is any is inviting someone to a special evening when they are 100 miles away. Where they choose to base their stores if in town and city centres is not something I would complain about.

Pinkvoid · 04/04/2018 19:49

I’m from Leeds and have no idea what Booths is. I googled and the closest one is Ilkley but there’s only two in Yorkshire, the rest are Lancashire. They’re also working at a substantial loss so I don’t imagine it’s very popular Wink.

Most people shop online nowadays anyway so I really don’t think it matters too much.

Teacher22 · 04/04/2018 19:55

Nothing in the west either but no one takes it personally as there are plenty of compensations. You can go without the odd shop if the countryside is glorious and the coast ditto. And there's this weird thing called the Internet where you can press buttons and sh*t appears by magic.

Springersrock · 04/04/2018 20:02

Pah - I live on the Isle of Wight

We’ve only just got a fecking Asda!

MrsGrindah · 04/04/2018 20:12

Leeds lass here. I’m still dizzy with excitement that we now have a Cos and & Other Stories. Maybe one day we’ll get a Massimo Dutti . Agree I would happily send Harvey Nicks back and they can have House of Fraser too

Pleasebeafleabite · 04/04/2018 20:20

I must try booths again as last time I went in it was more like an overpriced co-op or even a GT Smiths for my fellow Yorkshire residents

I’m not bothered about uniqlo but I miss the leeds muji and have to stock up on facial blotting tissues in bulk when I can.

Anyway we have wilcos the worlds best shop Grin

MorningsEleven · 04/04/2018 20:22

Do you have Boyes in Leeds? That's a cracking shop.

BikeRunSki · 04/04/2018 20:25

Not sure if there’s a Boyes in Leeds, but certainly around W Yorks and beyond. Friends of mine by surname Boyes got a day rover bus ticket to see how many they could visit in a day.

3asAbird · 04/04/2018 20:27

Well im Bristol

I dont love Harvey nicks that much

We have fab primark.

We have no booths
Hardly any waitrose 1 small brand Clifton village and westbury which area really close together geographically.
Then its outer bristol towns only keysnham/ chipping sodbury and portishead.

No joules or gap in city centre.

Big ikea.

fluffygreenmonsterhoody · 04/04/2018 20:32

What’s Uniqlo?

PlumsGalore · 04/04/2018 20:37

I love it when people think the world revolves around the south and everywhere up north is grim.

Means we have the North all to ourselves and the prices stay slow.

Agree Booths beats Waitrose hands down. Saturday trip to Booths in Ilkley or Ripon is a lovely day out!

MorningsEleven · 04/04/2018 20:40

BikeRunSki

Well there's a good day out. I just googled and there's none in Leeds but 2 in York.

camelfinger · 04/04/2018 20:44

I live within 5 miles of three Uniqlos. However I’m always disappointed when I visit the store and don’t buy much. On the website I find loads of stuff.

SimonBridges · 04/04/2018 20:50

Fluffy.
It’s a Japanese clothes shop. The name comes from the words Unique Clothes.

It’s kind of like Primark meets Gap. DH buys t shirts from there.

choseausername1 · 04/04/2018 21:45

Try living in ROI outside Dublin.

JanKind · 04/04/2018 22:22

Where’s the north? 😜

Littlegreyauditor · 04/04/2018 22:23

I thought we had a White Company in Belfast, in the round building in Cornmarket? Has it gone?
I need to pay attention. Normally when I’m in Cornmarket I’m struggling to stop my DS from trying to climb the Spirit of Belfast twisty sculpture thing that’s usually infested with teens and skateboarders.

Agree with PP about dodgy postage behaviour to NI, and would like to add Amazon Prime “next day delivery” which apparently means “within a week or so” to NI. Angry

treaclesoda · 04/04/2018 22:24

That's White Stuff at Cornmarket Littlegrey, I don't think we've ever had White Company.
