Not to buy stuff online from companies that think the North doesn't exist?

I'm looking at you Uniqlo - loads of branches in London and Home Counties and nothing at all in the rest of the country. Is our money not good enough?
Today I have had an e-mail from Rituals inviting me to attend a special evening. Very nice but I'm in Leeds and my closest branch is over 100 miles away in Leicester whereas there are 11 branches in London. I'm not likely to buy smelly stuff online without being able to sniff it beforehand so what's the point?

I’ve never taken it as a personal insult that a shop hasn’t got any physical branches near me, how odd! I’d be more likely to order online in that case, obviously. Also you are in Leeds, you’ve got so many shops. I grew up near Newcastle and could be jealous that most of the big department stores ‘northern’ outposts (such as Harvey Nicks) were in Leeds or Manchester. But we have a massive Fenwicks so that was great! I now live in Essex 50 miles from Londonand I’m nowhere near a Uniqlo.

feellikeanalien · 03/04/2018 15:21

Never heard of Booths or Uniqlo. I'm in a very rural part of the North-east but have a Waitrose within 10 minutes drive.
Having said that it is in a location populated by footballers and when I do go there my car looks very out of place next to all the shiny 4x4's!!!!Smile

Notso · 03/04/2018 15:24

Don't know if your being U but I wish Flying Tiger or is it just Tiger if they are reading this would open a store in Chester.

MrsJayy · 03/04/2018 15:55

@notso flying tiger is a nick nack cutsey tatt shop Tiger is a clothes shop so take your pick what you think Chester needs 😁

minionsrule · 03/04/2018 16:15

I live slap bang in the middle of two Booths supermarkets (smug). Their apple and cinnamon hot cross buns were lovely Wink

gussyfinknottle · 03/04/2018 16:18

I must have dreamed it because I am sure I went in Uniqlo at the Trafford Centre.

gussyfinknottle · 03/04/2018 16:22

Minionsrule. Well jel. As I believe young people used to say.

SimonBridges · 03/04/2018 16:33

I love Flying Tiger. It’s not tat. Some of it is cheap and a bit tatty but I love the design. It’s like Ikea market place.

frogsoup · 03/04/2018 16:55

Nope it's tiger that's the knick Knack shop, I'm walking past right now

frogsoup · 03/04/2018 16:56

And tat? Never. I've just bought two red fluffy notebooks for the kids Grin

wordgirl · 03/04/2018 16:58

Loving the photographic evidence! We don't have either type of Tiger in Leeds. Might have to get pissed off about that too (if I knew what I was missing)

frogsoup · 03/04/2018 17:07

Well, since I was passing Grin Tiger is kind of like IKEA squared, in that you get herded round in the same way round a pathway of goodies, but in a hundredth of the square footage. As long as you only ever go in at 9.20am on a rainy Tuesday in term-time, it's a great shop!

Bumblebee2302 · 03/04/2018 17:18

Can I also add to the "not in NI" list - Aldi and Morrisons!!!! Seriously - we STILL don't have any of these two stores here! It seems ludicrous to me Angry

LaurieFairyCake · 03/04/2018 17:20

I moved to London 18 months ago and haven’t yet been in a shop. Like I assume most do now, I buy everything online (including Uniqlo).

Justfivemoreminutesplease · 03/04/2018 17:26

Booths in Windermere is one of the best reasons to go to the Lake District.
But yes, they are apparently out with their financial advisers exploring a sale.

gussyfinknottle · 03/04/2018 17:31

Justfive, I've heard rumours about Booths too.
A couple of years back they had a free hardback Christmas catalogue. A colleague picked one up for me.

HRTpatch · 03/04/2018 17:32

Tiger is great.

elQuintoConyo · 03/04/2018 17:33

Just googled Uniqlo and there's one in Barcelona! Woop woop! Come visit me, OP Grin

elQuintoConyo · 03/04/2018 17:34

HRTpatch Tiger is the mutt's nuts!

SimonBridges · 03/04/2018 17:41

The best thing about Tiger is that all the stock they don’t sell they give to charities or youth groups. If you run Brownies or play groups or the like go and tell them. They will just give you stuff for free.

HRTpatch · 03/04/2018 17:43

Theres a Uniqlo in New York where I just happen to be going next month😀

ThomasHardyPerennial · 03/04/2018 17:55

There used to be a Muji store in Leeds, but it closed down several years ago. Flying Tiger keep teasing about opening in Leeds, but it has been postponed a few times.

gussyfinknottle · 03/04/2018 18:13

Been to the one in NY (get me!).

PickAChew · 03/04/2018 18:24

Funnily enough, there's quite a fancy Nisa in Hexham!

I can get to a small but well stocked Waitrose in the centre of Newcastle but have to either make do with a tiny Booths concession in Fenwick food hall (now there's one that spread down from the NE. Barker & Stonehouse is another, so it's not all bargain stores, glorious as they can be) or a trek to Ripon.

Footle · 03/04/2018 18:50

Tiger, or Flying Tiger in Denmark , has fabulous herbs and spices. And pretty coloured loo brushes if you like that sort of thing ( I do )
and the best stocking presents.
