to wonder why the whole family go supermarket shopping?

I tend to shop without my children as it's easier; I get that lone parents have to take their children with them but what I can't make sense of is why you see two adults with several children in tow at the supermarket?

Shopping with children for the weekly shop doesn't seem to be much of a pleasurable experience to me and it's probably not that fun for the children so why do people do it?

I think they actually do like it. Sometimes it's because it is something they do on their way back from somewhere, like picking up the kids from a club. Some fathers I knew had a very controlling attitude to the spending in the home. So they kind of did the supermarket shop and their wife had to go if she wanted to buy anything he wouldn't get so the children had to go too. Not many I've known like that but a few. A few I've known only have one driver in the household...

During term time DP and I do the shopping alone. When kids are off school, we usually have no choice but to take them with us. Usually I take a child and run around getting the fun stuff - chocolate, crisps, cat food, clearance sections, while DP and the other child get the regular, boring stuff. Same routine when the dc are at school, just childless.

It's fine now as they're older, but I do remember the terrors of taking toddlers into a supermarket, and tried to avoid it as much as possible.

Did the family shop today, multi generational, my dm, me and dc, you'd have loved us! We even had lunch at the cafe afterwards

I don’t agree.
my three children have always been brought supermarket shopping with me (I used to ring ahead and get the twin toddler trolley put aside). Mainly because we both worked full time but my husband has a second job (farm) and the children would be with me after work. They k ow how the self scanner works, they understand savings, costs, value and why I choose some goods/items over others.
