To mourn Cadbury chocolate on this day of chocolate eggs

My toddler has finally been allowed to open the Easter egg that has been taunting her for a couple of weeks for the traditional Easter Sunday morning chocolate. It's a "Freddo" egg, so I just gave her a couple of the little chocolate Freddo faces.

She clutched them lovingly in her hot little toddler fist for a few minutes before I told her to hurry up as they'd melt.

They haven't melted.

Not a trace of chocolate on her fingers.

What sort of waxy crap have they covered it in that can defy the sticky warmth of a toddler who loves Freddo not wisely but too well?!

This post =

Cadbury's chocolate is so unbelievably shit now it makes my heart hurt.

MrsJoshDun · 01/04/2018 08:28

I’m mourning as well. Such a sad era in the history of chocolate evolution.

We have Thornton's eggs.

I hate Cadbury's chocolate now.

I don't live n the UK so imagine my delight last month when I found a box of Milk Tray for sale here. Ran home gleefully with it, it was a massive treat for our family movie night. It was fucking awful, didn't taste like chocolate, didn't taste like Cadburys. We couldn't eat it. Such a shame.

FleurDelacoeur · 01/04/2018 08:39

It's really not the same. Blame Kraft and their nasty palm oil.

Lindt all the way. Only chocolate which actually tastes like chocolate.

thenorthernluce · 01/04/2018 08:41

Too late for you for this year, but Sainsbury’s own milk chocolate egg was lovely and made without palm oil, which has utterly ruined Cadbury’s. I also noticed the Aldi milk chocolate Easter egg hunt pack was made without palm oil, as are the Moser Roth posh filled eggs (just scoffed six in a row so my review is fresh!).

RIP Cadbury’s

ablatant · 01/04/2018 08:41

Hotel chocolat is the only stuff I like anymore. And I can't afford it. Easter Sad

Kraggle · 01/04/2018 08:48

Some cadburys is still like the original, buttons mainly and I think twirl.

We got one of those Cadbury old fashioned wrapper selection boxes for Christmas and it was inedible.

I had a simple Dairy Milk a while ago and it was disgusting. Waxy and didn't melt in the mouth. Thornton's is awful as well now - so sickly.

Quite enjoying Aldi's own brand at the moment.

IdaDown · 01/04/2018 09:15

We’ve gone no/low palm here.

Fed up with waxy shite tasting chocolate (Nestle/Galaxy etc... it’s all poop)

Aldi & Lidl are good and reasonable £.

Stop buying Shitbury folks. It’s shit and will forever be shit.

Be kind to your tastebuds and waistline. Stop giving Mondelez your £ for shite. They don’t care about the taste (or U.K. jobs), just their shareholder dividends.

lidoshuffle · 01/04/2018 09:29

I feel sad that kids growing up will think that this crap is the norm as they won't know any better.

Munchyseeds · 01/04/2018 09:35

Only eat Cadburys now if im lucky enough to get some from canada - no palm oil added
Still tastes (and smells!) Like the chocolate I remember.
Ate a sainsburys egg last night and that was ok if a bit sweet
I hate that palm oil is in EVERYTHING but it has made me start to make my own bread

SaucyJane · 01/04/2018 09:36

Ida - I never buy it myself, apart from the occasional splurge on the Australian/new Zealand bars which still taste the same. but this was a present - I can't really say to friends, "please only buy DD chocolate from one of these manufacturers". I'd end up in an AIBU!! And of course once the kids have seen them, you can't bin them.

I agree with the PP who says it's a shame that kids will grow up thinking that taste is normal.
