The thread continues....if it hasn't continued elsewhere! @Lateforall it was me who questioned Lobella loves depression wears lippy campaign. I get that the idea is that being a bit glam might be a way of coping. And i have been guilty of putting my face on to carry on in the world. I get that not everyone with pnd is sat at home in pjs unshowered with greasy hair. But I just find the whole thing so false on her account - maybe that is because I know of her in real life.

But I think so many of them have massivley over exaggerated aspects of their lives because it sells. Whether that is FODs clumsy parenting or whatever. But it really doesnt sit well

Pavlova, my designs are my designs. No way am I letting some chancer pretend they had anything to do with the creative decisions I make. It's only kids clothes, small fry stuff, but it's my business. I'm proud of my designs.

jamoncrumpets · 01/04/2018 21:16

My business insta isn't active atm, and I wouldn't anyway, it's too outing.

Areyouinthegame · 01/04/2018 21:17

I I think its downright stinky when these insta mums parade around supporting small businesses yet only give a shout out if they get a freebie. Like Susie verill when she got sent a really expensive mud kitchen. And was featuring it in her squares. Why could she just not pay for it? So much work goes into handcrafted items.

jamoncrumpets · 01/04/2018 21:19

It's a conscience thing. I'm not comfortable with the way kids end up exposed through this method of marketing. I'm not comfortable with the comparative wealth of the influencers. They can afford this stuff. They should pay for it.

allaboardtheallergybus · 01/04/2018 21:21

But for a small brand having somelike like Susie with loads of followers post about them, one gifted item will generate a lot of business for them. So the return will be worth it

Areyouinthegame · 01/04/2018 21:23

Yes but would she be so out of pocket to pay for it as a courtesy to someone running a small business?

jamoncrumpets · 01/04/2018 21:23

Oh I don't deny that allaboard, but I can't send her a product in good conscience when I know she can afford to pay double what I charge.

I'm never going to get rich!

Areyouinthegame · 01/04/2018 21:24

If she genuinely loved it and was looking to purchase one anyway.

jamoncrumpets · 01/04/2018 21:25

I wouldn't stop someone buying my product, that's not what it's about. Nobody is banned. I just don't do freebies for rich folk.

Areyouinthegame · 01/04/2018 21:26

They are just grabby grabby grabby and that's all it is about for them. No conscience whatsoever. They only align themselves with charity just for their image and so they can gloat about "giving back"

IsThisAWindUp · 01/04/2018 21:26

Hmm I think if they do a good job of promoting it (good pic, nice description, link where to buy it) then it’s a good way for small business to market. Cheaper and probably more effective than a traditional advert. But as a brand you are better off making it a clear advert because you can stipulate some conditions. As long as you are on the same page it would work ok. I’d be more pissed off as a brand if I sent an expensive product and it was in the background of a picture, no one noticed it and the blogger never mentioned it. I think some bloggers are so desperate for things not to appear as promos so they can justify to themselves not having to #ad it that they end up doing a crap job of promoting stuff anyway. That doesn’t benefit anyone.

PavlovaPrincess · 01/04/2018 21:26

@Sofialemon I'd rather not to be honest. I'm not bothered about criticism but I don't want it linked to my MN account.

It's just a blog about various places I've been around the country. There isn't any personal stuff on it (apart from my ramblings), I don't post selfies or my house or my family. (I've probably revealed more on MN) and I don't post in real time.

It hasn't been mentioned here, but if it ever is, I'll hold my hand up Smile

jamoncrumpets · 01/04/2018 21:27

I make mainly sunhats too, it could be lucrative! They're always on bloody holiday!

TheChocolateTeapot · 01/04/2018 21:29

Exactly that jamoncrumpets. I have a huge problem with this type of marketing - it creates huge pressure/unhappiness on young people. It's also a no from me to the Chanel bag. Wrapping marketing up in a usp only adds to the bad smell if you ask me.

PavlovaPrincess · 01/04/2018 21:30

@jamoncrumpets I understand why you don't post about donating your product to charity, but I think that's a selling point.

I'd be more likely to buy something from a company that did that than those who send their stuff to bloggers.

jamoncrumpets · 01/04/2018 21:33

I know Pavlova, but I didn't want to seem like I was bragging about how charitable I am. I didn't want to use it to sell product. It takes 15 mins to run up a bonnet or booties or scratch mitts. I was happy to give that time for free. It wasn't much.

I'm not a saint. So I just try very hard to give back when I can.

Areyouinthegame · 01/04/2018 21:35

In agree pavlova

CadyHeron · 01/04/2018 21:35

OK, jam (not antagonising, genuinely interested.)
You say if you had the mum platform you wouldn't accept designer clothes or bags, for example.
You say you have a business designing and making clothes for children.
Right, OK. Say someone contacted you saying they wanted to send you some free children's clothes for your kids in exchange for a mention of their company. Their company also being one that makes newborn and preemie clothes.
Would you turn them down? They're just normal, nice clothes.Nothing particularly expensive. Just nice clothes your baby could wear.
Would you say no in that situation? Send them back as it's grabby to accept them?

Areyouinthegame · 01/04/2018 21:37

Cady are we back to not picking people again.

jamoncrumpets · 01/04/2018 21:37

Well that's hard to answer Cady as a) I'm not an instagram influencer b) I'm not wealthy.

Are you asking me to imagine I'm MOD or something?

Areyouinthegame · 01/04/2018 21:37

Nit

jamoncrumpets · 01/04/2018 21:38

A friend sent me some second hand baby clothes recently. I gratefully accepted them. That's the only answer I can give you Cady because your question is so hypothetical that it's impossible to answer.

CadyHeron · 01/04/2018 21:39

Sorry, sorry, it's a bold bit again. (Only so you know what I'm referring to though!)
(Not picking on you btw, just interested in your points.)

Nobody is banned. I just don't do freebies for rich folk.

Is it just because you think they are rich and so therefore don't need the stuff?
What about smaller IGer's trying to make and scrape a living and getting some products in the post? Should they give them up and say no too?

CadyHeron · 01/04/2018 21:40

Areyouinthegame not nit picking, I'm genuinely interested in the discussion and asking questions.

Areyouinthegame · 01/04/2018 21:42

Why don't freeloaders just grow a conscience?
