Tell me your creepiest story

I was reading an article on Facebook the other day about children saying creepy things to their parents in relation to a 'past life' that they had remembered.
I'm not sure how much I believe if this but they're fun to read so I'd like to know your creepiest stories that made your hairs stand up and sent shivers down your spine at the time. Just for the sake of it Smile

I'll start. I was bathing 2 of my children (aged 3&4 at the time) and I just popped into my bedroom next door to grab their towels. All of a sudden I heard screaming so I ran back in and you three year old was standing up begging me to get her out (this was unusual as she usually hates getting out the bath and wants to stay in longer) my 4 year old then said "she's scared" when I asked what she was scared of he pointed to the window and said "that man out there..... he looks very scarey" Confused

Before my parents moved into their current home, they found out that the previous owners had the house blessed/exorcised as a window cleaner had fallen to his death in the back garden. 14y later 2yo DD and me round ourselves living with them
And DD asked me what man who died in back garden was called- hadn’t even thought out it for years or spoken about it but chills!

spanky2 · 06/04/2018 22:03

LaurieF isn't that the 'devil' hour? I think that's in the Renee Zelwigger film Case 39.

PasstheStarmix · 06/04/2018 22:06

I call it the witching hour at 3am 👻

ManicUnicorn · 06/04/2018 22:07

Not really a spooky story, but when I was little I'd often hear music when I was in bed at night. It was classical/ choral type music and it was in the room with me, as opposed to hearing it from somewhere else like a nearby radio or TV. I know it scared me because I used to get up crying and tell my parents I could hear music. By the time I reached about six it had stopped and it's not happened since.

Ive yet to meet anyone else who experienced the same thing.

Goldmonday · 06/04/2018 22:10

When I lived at home with my parents I was home alone and watching a horror movie, all the way through I thought the road seemed particularly loud and figured a window must have been open somewhere. Horror movie finished, was suitably shaken up and it was about 11pm at night. I walked through the house to discover the front door WIDE open. This is not a door that we ever used as it had a stiff lock and was a pain to open.

I was absolutely petrified, searched the entire house for intruders or other worldly beings and then sat cuddling my cat until my parents came home.

ReachOutAndTouchDave · 06/04/2018 22:16

My brother when he was a toddler freaked my DM out a couple of times. He'd cry out in the night and he'd not have his dummy. He'd tell her "the naughty man took it" and she'd find it on the other side of the room.

SimonBridges · 06/04/2018 22:38

Other things I will listen to people’s experiences but orbs really are just dust.

SteamTrainsRealAleandOpenFires · 06/04/2018 22:40

I call it the witching hour at 3am 👻

IIRC...weren't there studies about the number of deaths, that happened about 3am?

darkriver198868 · 06/04/2018 23:25

Just read the left right game. Holy wow!

lessthanBeau · 06/04/2018 23:53

I've lived in my victorian semi for 22 years, I knew it was my house as soon as I walked in. Met my dh a year or so later and he also adores this house, I don't feel in any way uncomfortable in it, however my eldest dd swears she saw a lady in the hallway when she was in bed, my ds used lose things all the time we'd say Fred had taken them then ask out loud for him to return the item, it would always turn up in some weird place, like clean laundry under the sofa cushions. For a time when I was in bed I would hear my dh open the living room door and walk up the stairs to our room, I'd wait for him to come in the room, but there was never anyone there when I called out, that happened quite a lot over about a year or so but hasn't happened for over 10 years now. When youngest dd was born we had a night vision monitor in her room, some nights there were loads of orbs bouncing around the room but other nights there wouldn't be any, which kind of made me think perhaps it wasn't just dust motes as the light conditions were always the same, why would only some nights the dust be there and others not? I m not that great of a housekeeper! My brother won't stay at my house alone, and everytime we've thought about moving something has always happened to prevent us going ahead. It's not like amityville or anything, but maybe we're just meant to be there. (also not sure if this means anything we didn't know when we bought it but the house belonged to my dad's best friends parents when they were children and he'd spent a lot of time there as a boy)

popcornpaws · 06/04/2018 23:57

I’ve told this one before but was reminded when reading this.

Years ago we had a huge windchime in the hall, it was about 5ft long and properly tuned, anyway, i woke up one night to the sound of it chiming, and as i lay in bed i thought, ahh thats so nice...wait a minute, why can i hear this?
I crept to the top of the stairs to see my front door lying wide open!
I checked in my DD’s bedroom and she was sound asleep.
I still dont know why i didnt wake my DH at this point, anyway i crept downstairs, checked all the rooms and there was no sign of anything amiss, when i went to the kitchen my two labs were standing side by side staring towards the livingroom but they weren’t barking or upset just staring which was actually weird as they were normally hyper!

The reason it was so strange is due to the layout of where the house is built the backdoor is our main door, there are no roads outside the front door and we never use it, never leave keys in it, no one comes to the front door etc and i am very safety concious and check all doors and windows every night!

LARLARLAND · 07/04/2018 00:02

I don't understand what the left right game is. I really couldn't follow it. Can anyone explain it to me?

SimonBridges · 07/04/2018 00:09

Glad it’s not just me Larlar. I couldn’t follow it at all.
If they always go the same way and take a left then a right what is the ‘game’ in that. You end up in the same place.
How did the woman at the mirror shop talk to them when they were in a car?

Threeminis · 07/04/2018 01:26

God, I love these threads. Have to stop now though 👻

Iwasjustabouttosaythat · 07/04/2018 05:25

Manic, aural hallucinations of music are actually not that uncommon. I heard a radio program about it the other day. The man they interviewed had no idea until he was a teenager that other people couldn’t hear the same music.

cricketballs3 · 07/04/2018 07:56

My sister was very I'll in hospital the other side of the country whilst I was about 10 weeks pregnant with DS2. DH was working a night shift but I woke very suddenly at 5.40am for no reason. My DM called after she knew DH would have gotten home with the news you can all guess.

I've never understood how or why

TheBitchOfTheVicar · 07/04/2018 08:04

@SimonBridges @LARLARLAND it's a horror story. You need to suspend your disbelief.

SimonBridges · 07/04/2018 08:57

I get that I need to suspend disbelief, I’ve read plenty horror, fantasy and sci fi in the past, but this just plain doesn’t make sense.

Katchit · 07/04/2018 09:55

In the summer when I am in the kitchen looking at the view and drinking tea around 5 am I have seen the reflection of an old lady walking around the table behind me. I see her about twice a year, once she stopped and looked straight at my own eyes in the window. I have never felt troubled by this. Another family member staying as a guest saw the same image but refuses to talk about it.

In 2011 I was on a huge beach with a shallow bay. It was one of those where you can walk out to sea and after 300 metres it is still only below your knees. To the left of me some 50 metres away a human shape rose out of the water and stood tall, in silhouette looking away from me, before gradually sinking down and disappearing again.

Around June 2003 I was out in the garden at 2am and it was a clear, warm night. At great height but away in the distance I could see some small disturbances in the atmosphere. I have very powerful binoculars and focused in on what I can only describe as a pattern like a military aircraft dogfight, with planes leaving trails of light dotted with other explosions of light. It all looked as if it was a long long way distant and also at an immense height, but clearly was a writhing mass of lights and aircraft some 20 plus in number.

ManicUnicorn · 07/04/2018 11:00

Iwasabouttosaythat I was hoping that someone would provide a more rational explanation, because it's creeped me out for years.

My DM worked in old people's home's for years and could write a book about the things she and her colleagues saw and witnesses. So much so that nothing scares her anymore.

SoulToSqueeze · 07/04/2018 12:06

When we were kids me and my brother shared a room, I had the top bunk and he had the bottom. He would often tell me how in the night he would see me climb down the steps and leave the room but I would still be fast asleep in bed. Years later when I shared a room with my younger sister she would also say the same. That she would be woken up by me walking past her to leave the room but when she would look over to my bed I'd still be asleep. I never thought anything of it really, until when me and DH first moved in together and he said he had seen me walk past the living room door towards the kitchen so he come to make some tea while I was in there but the kitchen was empty and I was actually sat in our bedroom. Not sure what any of it means, doesn't freak me out but DH was rather creeped out for a while as he was convinced he had followed me.

DD is 2 and she always mentions 'the man' but I think she means there's 2 as she sometimes mentions the naughty man and sometimes the nice man. The nice man is usually in the hallway and she doesn't seem fazed. The naughty man is usually in either mine or her bedroom and she gets scared and extremely clingy. I've never seen or felt anything but I just try not to think about it too much lol.

We went with DD to DHs nans grave to tidy it up, put new flowers down etc and DD kept pointing to her grave saying Ganna there! Ganna there! She never got to meet DHs nan and only refers to my nan as Ganna as both DM and MIL are referred to as Nanny. Gave me chills at the time but there's probably a perfectly good explanation.

When I was young, maybe 13/14 weird things would happen when I would be in bed. One night I was just drifting off to sleep and I felt something heavy squash my legs into the mattress, as if someone had sat down on me. I was too scared too look and it only lasted a few minutes before i felt it go. I wish I had opened my eyes at the time! My bed once jolted away from the wall a few inches whilst I was lay down watching tv. That one shit me up because I was wide awake at the time. I'd wake up to feel my bed shaking, it would last a few mins then stop.

All these things can probably be explained but it is all very odd!!

SoulToSqueeze · 07/04/2018 12:07

Paragraph fail... Tut!

Fartootiredtobeawake · 07/04/2018 12:44

This will always stick with me. I was in work in my shared office, myself and the 2 others in the office were chatting, when I started taking about my mum, saying that she was as mad as a hatter and I hadn’t spoken to her recently, so would call her this evening, this was about 7.30 in the morning. My mum lived 120 miles away, I am the only family member to move away from our home town.
Later in the day, I was called over the tannoy and DH arrived. Sadly my mother had passed away suddenly that morning, getting ready to go to a birthday lunch. Her time of death was 7.30 to 8 am.

findingmyfeet12 · 07/04/2018 12:57

My older sister often predicts events in our family after having dreamt about them. She's predicted wedding announcements and deaths accurately.

I'm not sure if these are coincidences and perhaps we've forgotten times when she's had a strange dream and nothing has happened.

Mrsfrumble · 07/04/2018 13:08

Did you read to the end SimonBridges? The purpose is revealed much further on in the story...

Spoiler alert
... that following the rules of "the game" opens a kind of portal to another dimension where all the weird stuff happens.
