Tell me your creepiest story

I was reading an article on Facebook the other day about children saying creepy things to their parents in relation to a 'past life' that they had remembered.
I'm not sure how much I believe if this but they're fun to read so I'd like to know your creepiest stories that made your hairs stand up and sent shivers down your spine at the time. Just for the sake of it Smile

I'll start. I was bathing 2 of my children (aged 3&4 at the time) and I just popped into my bedroom next door to grab their towels. All of a sudden I heard screaming so I ran back in and you three year old was standing up begging me to get her out (this was unusual as she usually hates getting out the bath and wants to stay in longer) my 4 year old then said "she's scared" when I asked what she was scared of he pointed to the window and said "that man out there..... he looks very scarey" Confused

Me and now DH stayed at the Roosevelt Hotel in Manhattan for 3 nights a number of years ago. Gorgeous old place. Our room had a big standard radio alarm clock on the bedside table. The first night we set it to 8am and went to bed. It woke us going off at 3.21am, ok bit weird we thought. Turned it off and went back to sleep and it went off at 8am.
Night 2 we double and triple checked the alarm was set to 8am only, no second alarm function etc. Went to sleep and yes 3.21am we were woken by the alarm!
Night 3 feeling a bit woo by now. We unplugged the alarm clock and set alarms on our phones instead. Alarm goes off at 3.21am! We were so glad to hear to the airport the next day!

I once dreamt about my DH marrying another woman. In my dream, I picked up a newspaper and saw the announcement with his name and the location of the wedding, a huge mansion with beautiful grounds I’d driven into by mistake years before knowing him.

The dream then included the actual wedding, DH was there but miserable and his new wife (not me) was being awful to him telling him he needed to change his ways if he was to be included in her family.

It was all very weird. I told DH about it the next day and his face dropped. Turns out his ex college girlfriend lived in a mansion in the very location I’d dreamt of and her grandparents were super posh aristocratic types. He’d only dated her for a couple of months and went to visit this house where she made him feel like dirt and dumped him cos ‘they lived in different classes.’

He’d never told me any of this and had forgotten all about it until I told him about the dream.

We also grew up hours apart and had no friends in common so it was all very odd.

Between the ages of 4 and 8 I lived in an old terraced house with my mum, dad and little brother. My family look back and remember how creepy the house was and how it had an " atmosphere".
There was always the feeling of being watched and I wouldn't go upstairs or in the front room by myself.
I have vague memories of a little girl being in the house, I knew she was a ghost but at the time I wasn't too afraid as I didn't really understand. She was waif like, pale with dark hair and dark circles under the eyes, wearing a long white night dress.
I only saw her the once but I would hear her calling me and saying "woooooo" in a joke ghost voice while I was playing in my room or in bed for the night. One time I heard her say she "wanted to play".
Years after we had left the house, I was talking about this with my mum and she said that in the 1970s a little girl had lived in the house and been killed in a hit and run on the road outside the house. She said she hadn't told me at the time when I originally told her as she hadn't wanted to frighten me.
I often walk past that house and I wonder if she's still there and if she wonders where I went.

Cheesecake Addiction that is odd, I hope that you're comforted by it too Flowers

That Left/Right Game story was amazing! I read three chapters last night the. Had to finish it in the daylight Blush Reminded me a bit of The Ring.

Mine is really recent.

So the house I'm in is the family home. Myself and my brother were bought here as babies. We've suffered abuse here and it's not full of good memories. My dad can't afford it so he let me rent it when I was expecting dd so at least we'd have our own home. There's always been a spirit present here. Many people have commented on it but I didn't really give it a second thought.

So when myself and ex dp were expecting dd and we moved in, he kept mentioning he kept seeing this spirit in the hallway and it'd look at him. He described it perfectly. This happened numerous times.
So fast forward after dd my life changed. I became severely depressed. Anxious and not feeling comfortable anymore. My birthday was 2 weeks ago and I'm in a pretty bad place right now, so my mom took me to see a really good medium. An straight away she knew this spirit had attached itself to me and my unborn ds. He's due any day now.
She tried to cleanse it and it wouldn't work. So she told me to stay out of the house till 7pm and the house would feel different. This could have been placebo affect for me, but I didn't tell ex dp at the time and even he mentioned coming home after 7pm that the house finally felt calm.
Apparently the spirit was waiting for the conception of our ds. (I found out at 24 weeks so it's been there a long time).
It was the reason my brother committed suicide out of the blue in our living room (it was affecting his mood and making him depressed)
It was the reason I felt suicidal a lot here. (I haven't since.)
Apparently also the medium told me it was desperately trying to cling on to my dd (11 months) but my brothers spirit keeps fighting it off her.

Its really frightened me. What was worse, the medium described it exactly how ex dp used to describe it perfectly. She said it was evil and it would take an army to take it through to the other side properly.

I've not felt uneasy since.

My friends husband died many years ago. For about two years after his death the doorbell would ring a completely different tune to the one that was programmed in. There was never anyone at the door. Every time it rang this strange random tune she'd just say, "oh that's only Bill" and just carry on talking. It never does it anymore, we just assume he's happily moved on.

QuestionableMouse · 01/04/2018 22:04

@Raven88 orbs in photos are just dust being lit up. My cat often chases dust motes... Judging by the noise she makes its apparently great fun. Might help to put your mind to rest a bit.

Squaffle · 01/04/2018 22:07

Currently on holiday staying in an apartment with lots of family. Whenever any of us have changed DDs nappy here she looks up at the light and says there is a man in it. Sometimes she says hello to him or says that he’s talking to her. We all thought it was a bit woo but even more so when her 3 yo cousin visited today and said there was a ghost on the ceiling in the same room...

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 03/04/2018 15:45

I love reading all these stories but I don’t believe in anything supernatural.

Last night, staying at my dads, I kept waking up with what is clearly an old house settling but still freaked me out!

First is the creak of the bedroom door opening - called out thinking it was one of my three boys but no answer. Got up and they were all fast asleep.

Second was the rhythmic knocking that woke me. Sounded like it was on a door or plasterboard, not an outside wall.

Third is the fact my dad for some bizarre reason has a motion sensitive light in his downstairs hallway. The house is in a pitch black area so when it goes on three of four times in the night, you notice it!

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 05/04/2018 20:02

Stayed in a beautiful old house which was now a hotel. Was kept awake literally the entire night by some noisy fucker pacing upstairs. Was so pissed off the next morning, the night away was meant to be an escape from non sleeping dc! Anyway, went for a walk in the morning and noticed when looking at the hotel that there wasn't actually a floor above our room. Asked at reception when checking out and apparently there was attic space above us but it's now unused.

Freaked me out a bit.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 05/04/2018 21:51

This isn't creepy quite lovely really.

At the wake on my dad's funeral my BILs dad told us that when the curtains had closed for my dads body to go into the crematorium he saw an orb. Now I know him well enough to know he's not the type of bloke to make things up and even if he was. Why would he make it up to me and my sisters (his grieving daughters).

PasstheStarmix · 05/04/2018 22:13

When I was a child I would visit my grandparents house every Saturday and stay over and go home the next day. They had a large old country house so naturally many creaking floorboards and ‘noises’ of the house were to be expected. I would go to bed before 9pm (the watershed) and be all tucked in by my Grandmother who would go back downstairs to watch tv (she was a night owl and used to stay up late). My Grandfather was the opposite and was early to bed and early to rise (he liked to tend to his allotment despite his ‘dodgy’ leg’ he was stubborn and had alway been a hard working man.) I would lay in bed with a book and my flashlight reading some shortened classic when 11pm every week without fail I would hear my Grandfather bang down on the floor with his walking stick when my Grandmother would have the tv too loud.

Years later I was staying with my Grandmother while I was back in the area visiting friends. I loved being tucked up in that same bed I had slept in as a child, it was great to relive some of my childhood memories that I’d held so dear. 11pm came and sure enough ‘bang bang’ went the walking stick on the ceiling. There was only one problem my Grandfather Tommy had passed away the year before and today was the anniversary of his death. Shock True story.

BearSoFair · 06/04/2018 14:51

I instantly thought of the MNer with the boy at the disco but can see he's already been mentioned!

dustarr73 · 06/04/2018 14:56

@BearSoFair thats the creepiest story ever

MyMarmitePurrs · 06/04/2018 15:18

One of my daughters middle names was chosen because my precious nana died when she was 3 months old. When my daughter was 2 she saw a photo of said nana for the first time and the first thing she said was " mummy that's the lady who sits in Uncle X's dining room" Uncle X also had one of my nana's vases and any flowers put in the vase would die within 24hrs - weird !!!!

mrsheathy85 · 06/04/2018 15:20

A few years ago I went to a medium with my mum. My grandad who had hung himself years before came through.

I've always been a bit sceptical but when she asked "what's with the odd socks"? We freaked out...

From the age of 12ish (dgd died when I was 7) I always wore (and still Do!) Odd socks. My kids wear odd socks and it drives my mum mad lol. She used to have a go at me when she'd see my kids in odd socks!

Also when she started the reading she said she feels as though she's being strangled...

Medium didn't know any of this. How the hell did she pick up on our family joke and I was wearing flip flops 😨😨

jobbymcginty · 06/04/2018 15:39

i've videoed my baby crawling for the 1st time a few months ago he is surrounded by orbs, i lost 8 babies before him i often wonder if it's these babies.I would of put the video on if i knew how
also my baby often looks into a corner of is room and smiles and puts his hand up.

ALongHardWinter · 06/04/2018 17:36

endofthelinefinally So sorry about your son. Flowers

ALongHardWinter · 06/04/2018 17:43

I hope the MNer who posted on a thread similar to this a couple of years ago posts her story again. I cannot remember her name, but I remember that she was staying in a cottage near (I think) the Forest of Dean and had a truly frightening experience whilst walking her dogs. It's stuck in my mind because it was so scary.

Remotedog · 06/04/2018 18:15

@merryshitmas

Omg that is one of the most unsettling things I've ever read 😱

halfwitpicker · 06/04/2018 19:58

Any more for anymore???

Ebeneser · 06/04/2018 21:19

I don’t know why I read these type of threads. I have a really overactive imagination even now. The dog is coming to bed with me tonight!

When I was a child i’m convInced our house was haunted. I have vivid memories of the electric going off when I was in the bath. My mum went down to put 50p in the meter and there was a massive silhouette of a vulture type bird perched on the end of the bath staring at me. I also don’t remember this, but my mum said that for several months she had to pretend to shoo a little white dog out of my bedroom before i’d go to sleep.

Overused cliche but it’s the living we need to be scared of and not the dead...Shock
