For me, the Parkland children being belittled and abused in so many ways is utterly heartbreaking to witness. But they have been more adult than the adults in their response. They have shown us what faith means, and bravery. POTUS? He is made much, much smaller.

Thanks for the new thread.

I’m still chuckling about the Ecuadorian embassy cutting off Assange’s internet. It sounds like when parents come home and kill off a teen house party by switching off the stereo and switching the harsh lighting back on. I wonder if he’s outstayed his welcome. Grin

Just to be clear: The Ecuadorian Embassy didn't just randomly cut off Julian Assange's internet connection. They did it because he breached a written agreement, signed in 2017, stating that he would not interfere in other countries' business.

Thanks for the new thread.

The Parkland teens are being attacked because they are achieving something. I guess some interest groups thought the marches would be the end of it, and those pesky kids would go home and shut up- but I think it’s building into something much more, now that they are challenging elective representatives.

I look forward to seeing some of these teens standing for election in a few years.

New thread. Shock I didn't catch up with the old one.

Still, steel, who thinks Mexico and Canada will find themselves exporting a lot more of definitely not Chinese steel into the US?

(Also, I bet it's because he has a thing against the carbon based Steel, not so much the iron alloy one)

Excellent news about Latvia - more rope that mueller might be able to use

I feel the same about SHS Roussette.

I find the shamelesness of so many of these figures rather troubling.

Fox and NRA must be running scared, given their tactics of late.

lionheart · 29/03/2018 08:24

As for De Vos.

thinkprogress.org/betsy-devos-gun-violence-shooting-school-to-prison-pipeline-543ea89f83eb/

'Education Secretary Betsy DeVos and Republican lawmakers are considering moves that may undo years of progress in dismantling the school-to-prison pipeline.

A White House commission on school safety plans to hold its first meeting on Wednesday. According to Politico, the first meeting will be closed press, but subsequent meetings will have open press. There are already a lot of critics of the commission since teachers and students will be missing from the conversation, and the commission seems to be more interested in media coverage of school shootings and the influence of video games than on reforming gun policy.'

I was struck by this description from Emma Gonzales' mother:

"It's like she built herself a pair of wings out of balsa wood and duct tape and jumped off a building, and we're just like running along beneath her with a net, which she doesn't want or think that she needs."

Hello Mini.

EdithSitwell · 29/03/2018 09:13

I've just read the vituperative comments about the Parkland protestors by Jesse Hughes, a member of Eagles of Death Metal who is himself a survivor of a mass shooting (Bataclan). The viciousness of his verbal attack on these amazing young people is shocking. (Sorry, don't know how to link).

lionheart · 29/03/2018 09:17

Some people just keep digging.

"The ‘crying Nazi’ from Charlottesville now says he’s an FBI informant."

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 29/03/2018 09:22

I saw that too edith and was also taken aback at how much loathing he appeared to hold towards these children. Particularly after having survived an attack himself.

That's a great thread title. Thank you. I feel so upset about the way these youngsters are being talked about by some people. They are using their grief constructively and for positive change. Thy should be applauded not denigrated.

Quantumblue · 29/03/2018 10:21

Thank you Claws and I love your decision to honour the young students. I am so full of heartfelt admiration for them.
