to think that motorway services aren't what they used to be! (light hearted)

What weird things have you seen at motorway services?

My children were asking me millions of questions thanks to a group of men standing around outside who had one of their group dressed in a mankini, a hood over his whole head and on a dog lead with his hands cuffed behind him.

I think we'll take sandwiches to eat in the car next time Grin

Ooh go to Gloucester services, it's the John Lewis of the services world, not a mankini in site, but plenty of artisan breads, home made fudge and a real butcher's!

turnipfarmers · 25/03/2018 20:57

seastargirl it was at Gloucester services!

Downtheroadfirstonleft · 25/03/2018 21:05

Lol! Try Warwick (northbound), there's something special about their Starbucks/ Costa (obv not so special that I remember which one it is)...

The south bound one is evenly though, it takes weeks to find the exit.

I have a friend who looooooves Gloucester Services. I bought something similar to pasties there when on a long journey last year and let's just say I was grieviously disappointed. They looked delicious but were VERY expensive and quite definitely not to my taste. I realise you can't please everyone all of the time but for me they were tasteless lumps of clacker (pastry). However I'm sure that other people find them delicious. Nice loos there though.

Tebay services.

seastargirl · 25/03/2018 22:10

No, don't make me think that, I only go once a year and it's like my little safe haven on the long drive to cornwall! It's the play address and amazing family toilets that got me hooked!

@possumgoddess I've given up buying actual food from the shop as it's never as nice as it should be for the price they charge. But fancy bread and cheese is always a success!

Stafford services on v weekend is always a sight for sore eyes!

Gloucester Services is the weirdest place. The farm shop is so bizarre , really dark and I wondered if they ever sold anything, ever.

I was at Strensham on Friday. 6 coaches all arrived at the same time. Horrible.

Schoolconfusionbath · 25/03/2018 22:49

We tried to buy some breakfast cereal at Gloucester on our way home from holiday- 7 types of artisan porridge, 15 varieties of cider. No breakfast cereal, no beans. We clearly weren't their target market! ( bought a variety pack & a tin of beans in the garage)

ghostyslovesheets · 25/03/2018 22:51

Used Gloucester services a few times - never had food arrived together, or all hot! Last time Me and DD3 where still waiting while the other DD's had eaten theirs

BUT I do like the large 'family toilets' - very handy

Farm shop is nice for a brows but generally overpriced

lovemynewflowers · 25/03/2018 22:54

I'm driving from Cambridgeshire to aberwystwth soon alone, are there any service station highlights I must visit ?!

EclecticDream · 25/03/2018 22:57

DH loves Gloucester services. He won't hear a word said against it. He loves buying overpriced farm shop produce!

Kokapetl · 25/03/2018 23:03

My DH and kids love Gloucester services too. DS particularly liked the one with doors that go round and is always disappointed with the other one. I think it's a bit overpriced.

I love Leigh Delamare....

I don’t even know why!
