To do nothing at weekends

It’s hard, as I have nothing to do and no human interaction. The week is hard too but passes easier as I’m at work.

If I do go out I am the only person out alone.

I’ve just been out for a walk on my own in the sunshine. It wasn’t just me who was on my own, plenty of people out and about alone. I have a feeling your viewpoint that you are the only person on their own is a bit skewed.

Nothing wrong with doing nothing all weekend at all if that’s what you want.

AverageSnowflake · 25/03/2018 14:59

I was like this for years and its soul destroying. I eventually just started chatting to people online and made friends that way. Anything to cure the loneliness. It does get better OP. Thanks

tierraJ · 25/03/2018 15:01

Can you get a pet? Even cats can be quite interactive. Also you'd have to walk a dog & meet other dog walkers.

Or you could walk dogs for charity.

Onlyoldontheoutside · 25/03/2018 15:02

My cats are crashed in the sun,me too.

onionthebridge · 25/03/2018 15:05

I live in a flat, although I do have a cat.

That must be hard Op but I'd definitely suggest going out for a walk to get fresh air & get the endorphins going.

Agree with others that getting a dog would help meet other dog walkers or a cat can be nice company at home. Also different chat groups online are good to chat to others.

iheartmichellemallon · 25/03/2018 15:07

Sorry, cross posted & see you have a cat already.

Lifeisabeach09 · 25/03/2018 15:09

Are you interested in meeting people?
If so, try meetup.com or citysocializer.

falsepriest · 25/03/2018 15:15

I love going for a walk on my own. Headphones in, listen to a podcast or two, and just stroll along the river(s) nearby. Usually do a loop of about 5-6 miles, couple of hours out the house just to myself. Bliss.

onionthebridge · 25/03/2018 15:26

Problem is everyone else is with families and it makes me feel bad.

tomhazard · 25/03/2018 15:28

do you want to go out with people or are you happy by yourself? If it's people you're after there are a ton of walking groups, yoga classes, running clubs etc that are going on during weekends. Have you tried meetup? You don't have to be alone if it's not what you want

onionthebridge · 25/03/2018 15:29

There aren’t, really. There are a few things on during the week. I don’t necessarily find I meet people through them though. Something to do, I suppose.

If you don’t fancy meetup, then try Pawshake... you get to walk dogs (without the responsibility of owning your own) you meet dog owners and you earn a bit of cash.

Ebeneser · 25/03/2018 15:31

Personally I’m a big fan of my own company, so wouldn’t have an issue with this. Today I’ve been for a lovely walk with the dog and now we are chilling on the sofa watching Netflix. I’ve noticed since getting a dog far more people will say hello in passing to me, or other dog walkers will have a chat with me. I know you have said you have a cat, but maybe borrow a dog every now and then and enjoy the outdoors (There are sites like borrowmydoggie).

One way I often entertain myself of an evening is to play multiplayer games online in a party chat with friends. Might not be everyones cup of tea though (I’ve always been a big gamer).

Are there any clubs that you can join? Like a walking, running or cycling group? Any evening college courses? Like drawing and painting, pottery etc? They are usually very social.

bookmum08 · 25/03/2018 15:32

I would recommend meetup too. There are loads of groups and casual meetups that I would love to attend - unfortunately for me Monday - Friday works better so I miss them!!

tierraJ · 25/03/2018 15:33

I agree that it can make you feel bad when you are single to seem to see everyone else in their family groups. I get envious at times.

But honestly I have quite a few single friends & so does my sister, so although it feels as if you're the only one alone you honestly aren't!

ChameleonCircuit · 25/03/2018 15:33

Could you see about volunteering at your local parkrun or junior parkrun?

amiaCF · 25/03/2018 15:35

I go for walks on my own! Stick a pair or earphones in (or not if you don't like it!) And go on my way. Sometimes I like to take in my surroundings without a 2yo and 13yo and dp wittering all the way Wink no shame in it! Nobody knows your circumstances and I bet nobody even thinks about why you're on your own!

Could you start a class, join a gym, do a couse? All good places to meet people.

Don't answer this if you don't want to but do you want to date? That would get you out of the house make friends with people even end in a serious relationship maybe?

onionthebridge · 25/03/2018 15:36

I do want to date but I don’t know, don’t really have enough confidence. Not sure about park run. I can’t run Grin

Bumply · 25/03/2018 15:36

I have times when I don't do anything at the weekend because that's what I feel like.

I volunteer as a befriender for the RNIB which means taking a blind lady out for a coffee and a chat two Sundays a month. It's handy as we can moan about people in our life without fear of it getting back to the other party.

Trinity66 · 25/03/2018 15:37

Why not take up a hobby or sport or something like that that you can do at the weekend, you'll be meeting new people and getting yourself out as well

mellicauli · 25/03/2018 15:40

Why do you think this has happened? Do you find it difficult to talk to new people or do you find it difficult to find opportunities due to financial constraints? Or location constraints? Or is it something else, like trouble finding your place in the world after a divorce or bereavement? Or has it just always been like this?

KeithLeMonde · 25/03/2018 15:44

onion, I'm sure your local parkrun would be really glad to have you as a non-running volunteer and it's a really friendly community :)

tierraJ · 25/03/2018 15:44

I want to date too as I'm on tinder & keep getting messages but I'm too shy to even answer them let alone go on dates so I feel your pain OP!

Running is not fun but you should join a gym. My gym is always busy at the weekend.
