Is staying in bed all day normal?

I have tried to be more proactive, but it always ends up being the same because there is just nothing out there in terms of activities. I have no friends, despite making so much effort to befriend people. When I have nothing to do, as in uni, work, or other essentials, I just sit on my bed all day on my laptop. I don't think this is how other people live their lives, but I have nothing and no one else. I am just so fed up of living. It feels like such a waste, especially when I am 26, but there's never anything else that is free or constructive. What do you do with your day?(weekdays and weekends)

@UselessPOS why does your mum get to chose? Fuck what your mums thinks and go for a walk! Other people shouldn't be able to rule your life and over rule what would make you happy.

-Could you get into cooking?
-Drawing/painting?
-Going for a walk (a Fitbit helps to motivate you to get your step count up)
-Reading (better than just being on your laptop all day)
-Doing an exercise dvd if you don’t want to exercise outside of the house.

  • go to the cinema? Plenty of people go on their own.
-volunteering somewhere? I used to volunteer at a food bank once a week and really enjoyed it. Also volunteered at a cat and dog home years ago.
  • joining a class such as a singing group, Zumba, walking group or a book club?
  • making things at home? Scented candles and stuff can be fun to make and you could try selling them too?

You sound like my ex, you're not him are you?? Oh and he's a narcissist who never takes responsibility for anything, despite 39 criminal convictions, he thinks he's 'woke' too, but actually he's just a workshy violent arse hole!

I’ve done it a couple of times. Norovirus and flu. That sort of thing.

But not on a beautiful spring day

Go for a walk
Get on the train and go to a different town/city for the day
Go to an art gallery or museum
Join your local library, take out a book on a subject you don't know anything about
Start a blog
Go swimming
Tidy, clean, rearrange your house

You could be suffering from exhaustion and nutrient deficient.
The laptop emits blue light. This blue light goes to the back of the retina and signals to keep awake. change your laptop to Night Light settings . It may look sepia toned but will help you to sleep at night and be awake during the day.
Fresh air and a walk will bring oxygen into your system and blood.
Try out clubs, sports, craft, art, or whatever takes your interest and you will meet like-minded people. Just got to do it x

This thread was in March last year. Hope the OP found the help they needed.

IME it's not something that most people do, but if you don't have anywhere else that you should be, there's nothing actually wrong with it.

However you are clearly not happy with this, and feel you are wasting your life, so it's down to you to change this. People have given lots of great suggestions, so there's no point in repeating everything, but personally I do find that getting fresh air and exercise (generally a walk or run) is essential for my mental health.

Make a point every day of getting up, showered and dressed and then going for a walk somewhere.

Also think about what it is in your life that's important to you. What are your goals, what are your passions? Decide what it is that you would love to be doing on your days off - in an ideal world, how would you be occupying your time? Then look at what the barriers are to doing these things, and focusing on how you can achieve what you want to achieve.

MN has local groups - post in there and see if anyone has any suggestions based on your interests, or if anyone wants to meet?

Are there any activities at uni that you fancy getting involved with?
