For me it would be cranberry sauce and hot cross buns.

OP posts:

Cherries, nature's medicine.

Nectarines and peaches, English strawberries, asparagus.

But, actually I suppose it's the seasonal nature of these foods that makes them so appealing.

Tanith · 24/03/2018 07:52

Fresh figs!

Spoog1971xx · 24/03/2018 09:29

Those cherries with no stalk - piccotto???? I love them
... I'm surprised nobody has mentioned cream eggs

Spoog1971xx · 24/03/2018 09:30

Oooooh I know
The gherkin shaped watermelons that pop up in corner shops in the summer. Yummm

iklboo · 24/03/2018 10:14

@WutheringFrights - sadly I'm not in your area. Not sure I could persuade DH a day trip to Somerset for Lebkuchen would be vital Grin

CurlsandCurves · 24/03/2018 10:43

Peas in their pods. Me and the kids can happily eat them like sweets.

LadySainsburySeal · 24/03/2018 10:49

Sprouts.

Astrid2 · 24/03/2018 10:57

A lot of these things are available all year round!

Parsnips, sprouts and cranberry sauce being the only ones I can remember!

I love the Halloween Mr Kipling fondant fancies, best ever and defo not available any other time!

YoucancallmeVal · 24/03/2018 10:59

Figs and broad beans. Two of my most favourite things.

BreconBeBuggered · 24/03/2018 11:03

Sprouts, yes. And FIL's homegrown cherry tomatoes and runner beans. Oooh, and stopping off at a fruit farm for a basket of gigantic local cherries.

Clemfantango · 24/03/2018 11:25

Persimmons

SurferRona · 24/03/2018 12:48

Also clementines and fresh bread sauce. Oh, and local fresh asparagus. @chirpyburbycheapsheep I buy about 8 pots at Christmas and freeze- had some this week with roast chicken Grin

Celticrose · 25/03/2018 16:41

Simmel cake. Would much rather have it than Christmas cake. DH loves it. Gone through 2 M & S slabs already and have 2 in cupboard plus 2 of the full round cakes

madamedepoppadom · 25/03/2018 17:36

It pisses me off that pumpkins stop being available in shops in the UK the minute Halloween is over, because I love making pumpkin soup and it would be a nice warming thing to eat all over the winter. Agreed on the Halloween fondant fancies too, Astrid - orange is my favourite flavour for cakes! (I think they call them Fiendish Fancies.)

Most other fruit and veg are available all the year round these days, it's just that some of the time they are not local and not as good. I could buy strawberries tomorrow but they won't be anything like as tasty as the ones in my garden later in the year.

possumgoddess · 25/03/2018 17:58

YES to satsumas. Satsumas satsumas satsumas. Any other small orange fruit are NOT the same (and are the work of the devil).

Frogletmamma · 25/03/2018 17:59

Proper British asparagus, and not the tasteless Peruvian (air miles!!!!) variety

SleepingInYourFlowerbed · 25/03/2018 18:11

You can buy cranberry sauce all year OP

BonnieF · 25/03/2018 18:27

None.

I don’t want to eat Peruvian asparagus or Jersey Royals in November, Russet apples in April or white peaches in December. Winter strawberries taste of nothing.

Eat seasonally & cut food miles!

YourVagesty · 25/03/2018 18:31

Pumpkins. And when they do come into the shops, everybody buys them up just to carve bleddy faces into them! How very dare you!

Marylou2 · 25/03/2018 18:34

Greengages and damsons

Welshlovebicuit · 25/03/2018 18:36

Vacuum packed chestnuts. I've stockpiled this year after several unsuccessful trips looking for them other than at Christmas.

Grilledaubergines · 25/03/2018 18:44

Pickled walnuts. I can only find them around Christmas.

Cherries

Asparagus.

Everything else I can find easily enough in the supermarket, even if imported. Bought strawberries yesterday. Granted they’re not as sweet as British ones during the summer but they’re nice enough.

Grilledaubergines · 25/03/2018 18:45

welsh I love vacuum uabkef chestnuts. I hate golf a pack when making the turkey stuffing at Christmas! Didn’t think of stockpiling them though!

EggysMom · 25/03/2018 18:50

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned cream eggs

That's because they are now (1) tiny and (2) horrible since Cadburys changed the chocolate.

stegosauruslady · 25/03/2018 18:51

Raspberries. Scottish raspberries are my favourite food in the world. I spend waaay too much money on them when they are in season. Frozen ones are not the same!
