I have seen this a few times in Facebook.

AIBU to ask your opinion? Has anyone done it.

Something about it makes me uncomfortable.

Off to read Balonz sounds like it must have been a good thread.

oh yes...sticky tape!

or an ice cube on a highchair tray...that's quite amusing.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 23/03/2018 19:39

Well like every activity with a baby you'd need to supervise it. There's danger everywhere if you look for it.

x2boys · 23/03/2018 19:39

I hate balloons I don't like the feel of them or the sound of them when kids mess with them Hmm

Natsku · 23/03/2018 19:43

I have definitely got to tie some balloons/Ballonz to baby on May day when they have helium ones in the shops.

Justanotherzombie · 23/03/2018 19:44

I think OP you were hoping for some outrage. But I don't know what you want people to say.

Even a blanket plus negligence or stupidity could lead to a baby dying. Should we be outraged at blankets?

AnElderlyLadyOfMediumHeight · 23/03/2018 19:48

Like some others, my first response to the thread title was 'I think you'll find the traditional spelling is Balonz'.

Not keen on the balonz balloons-on-babies thing.

Chrys2017 · 23/03/2018 19:49

Helium is a finite resource that shouldn't be wasted on things like this. So yes, it makes me 'uncomfortable' too.

DD absolutely LOVED this when she was tiny (over two decades ago) the only reason she wasn’t permanently attached to balloons was the price!
Happy giggly baby whilst I washed up / had a shower / drank gin...absolute genius idea

AnnieAnoniMouser · 23/03/2018 19:55

Could be unsafe

How?

Seriously. How?

Yes it’s unsafe to tie balloons to them then sod off down the pub...or even go for a shower, but if someone’s that fucking stupid, their baby isn’t safe with them, balloons or no balloons.

Elizanotlittle · 23/03/2018 19:57

Balonz love it!

Hilarious

What was I hoping for? Nothing really.

Just AIBU? Seems I am. Only one poster jot keen.

I was also curious if it actually worked.

Fabulous cross post Norks, it wasn’t aimed at you, honest!

I assume you had the sense to take her into the bathroom with you.

LookyLooky · 23/03/2018 19:58

I bet this babies parents were regretting tying quite so many balloons to their baby

FrozenMargarita17 · 23/03/2018 19:59

I would do it if my dog wouldn't go mental at the balloons!!

Efferlunt · 23/03/2018 20:00

Nothing to add to this but that Balonz thread OMD! Grin best thing I’ve read on here for ages!

“Frensham Ponds is a topic to which one can endlessly return”

Imstickingwiththisone · 23/03/2018 20:08

Are you a babysitter OP? Are you worried people will hire balloons instead of you when they need childcare? Grin

Thank you for the link to Balonz even the name of the thread got me laughing!

NotUmbongoUnchained · 23/03/2018 20:09

I watched this video earlier and the baby was so happy! She loved it.

Gacapa · 23/03/2018 20:29

I love anything that reminds me of Balonz.

HuskyMcClusky · 23/03/2018 20:35

I can’t believe some people think a few helium balloons might lift a baby. 🤣

MsHomeSlice · 23/03/2018 22:41

whatever happened to that american child/family who was wheeked away by some giant balloon....wasn't it all declared a publicity stunt? A few years back now.

i am off to google!

AlpacaLypse · 23/03/2018 22:46

@MsHomeSlice ooh I remember that story. I think the entire family apart from the unfortunate child involved were nominated for Darwin Awards.

Cornettoninja · 23/03/2018 22:50

Aw we used to do this with dd (never shelled out for more than one balloon though poor deprived child) and she loved it - brought out the megalomaniac in her to have control of a flying shiny thing Grin plus I got to have my arms free for ten minutes or so while she kicked away - win win.

She's just gone through a phase of hating balloons though so maybe we've given her isssoooos

raviolidreaming · 23/03/2018 23:10

The baby in photo is obviously being supervised, at least by the person taking the photo

I think it's like wildlife documentaries and the camera person isn't allowed to intervene and has to let nature take its course.
