OTT mums blind bag LOL toys

I'm a member of a group on Facebook that advertise the LOL dolls. Basically they're similar to blind bags but they're in a ball and you collect them for those of you that don't know. I think they're are 4 different varieties out at the minute.

These mums are seriously OTT. Quing up before the shop opens. Taking balls out of other mums hands. Drawing up / asking for diagrams of where the gold / limited addition ones are. I was going to screen shot some but I'm not sure it's allowed. Women are actually taking weighing scales into shops. Filling their trolly with the balls and weighing them. The gold ones are heavier. Some mums are actually buying the whole 24 that come in the shops display box at £144 a go.

I have bought my kids 2. They don't play with them so now if it's Christmas or their birthdays I will buy the fakes. Yes it's the parents business and their money. If it makes the child happy and all that. They are peeling the stickers off to see which ones they are getting before their kids come home from school.
Yes it's disappointing getting a blind bag / kinder egg etc with a toy you already have but isn't that the exciting bit?
If I had the money then I would probably end up like these mums and it round take the fun out of it so I'm glad I'm skint x

Ah ok. Thanks. I'll get some ice and make it even colder.

Tringley · 24/03/2018 09:24

A bit off topic but most blind bags that are made by Mattel (so Thomas the Tank Engine, Imaginext, any DC superheroes etc) all have a little code on the the top that indicates exactly what's in the bag. If your child collects them, you can check the code numbers online and know exactly what's in the bag before you buy it. DS collects the Imaginext ones, which aren't bad value at all, as the figure is good quality and comes with an extra feature, and it's very handy to just check the top of the pack and know exactly what's inside.

I hate LOL dolls. Spent days hunting for one for Easter for dd.
I'm ready to pull my hair out, had LOL openings on YouTube since 8 this morning.

She wanted one of the big gold ones for when she has her tonsils out next month.
Never going to happen, £60 and you get a load of shit.
So she's got 3 confetti ones. (1 off me and her dad, dm and mil)
It's such a big waste of money but while people are willing to pay that much the prices will never go down.

I hate myself for buying them

Dh stood in the toy aisle of Tesco fondling the guardians of the galaxy bags to find me groot. He did it as well. So proud 😂

Alwaysinthehive · 24/03/2018 09:29

Op my kids are teenagers and I knew what you meant.

They are a rip off at £10 for a tiny doll similar size to what Clarkes used to put in shoes and the packaging waste makes me cross!

PurpleTraitor · 24/03/2018 09:33

I clicked on the thread because I didn’t understand what it was about and wanted to understand the sentence. I thought it was about blind parents, vaguely.

I’m still none the wiser. I am sat at a breakfast table with five primary aged children, so I thought I’d ask them. None of them know what a blind bag or a lol doll is. They are mirroring my confused look back at me.

Ilovemalteaserbunnies · 24/03/2018 09:33

Are you speaking English?!

Soubriquet · 24/03/2018 09:44

My Dh does that too SistersOfPercy

He's usually spot on too

IceRebel · 24/03/2018 09:48

@Tringley i'm very jealous of the bags with unique codes, the Lego ones are all random, so the only way to tell is by touch. Codes would be so much easier :)

louise5754 · 24/03/2018 10:21

Purple and Bunnies bore off!!

It’s really not that hard a thread to follow.

Lol dolls. All the age. Unfortunately.

Blind bags. Bags containing a surprise toy e.g a Lego figure.

Nobody is blind. For fuck sake

Tattybogle89 · 24/03/2018 15:45

*all the rage

Tattybogle89 · 24/03/2018 15:46

@icerebel there are bump codes online for Lego blind bags (like Braille on the bags) or at least there used to be. Have a google 😁

Theweasleytwins · 24/03/2018 15:50

@Soubriquet I've brought some of those for my ds in pound land recently if that's any help😊

IceRebel · 24/03/2018 15:52

@Tattybogle89 The codes don't work for the newer series, it's all random. It's a shame, but when they run special promotions like the Mr Gold figure I suppose it makes sense not to make it too easy. :D

My 5 yo asked for the gold one for Xmas, as it was top of her list, I tracked one down in October and put it away. Yes it was crap to me, but she plays with them every day, the gold ball holds all of them (she has some extra ones!). She had the pearl for her recent birthday, I wasn't as impressed with that. But again she loves it.

I do however hate the LOL pets, she had one of those from her birthday money. I didn't realise they came with glittery sand as the litter tray.

I have no idea what she's got in terms of rare ones. She likes them, plays with them, gives them hatchimal as pets and makes up stories with them.
I'm not weighing anything though.

IceRebel · 24/03/2018 16:21

Not sure where you heard that the Entertainer refuses to sell due to them being gambling, the local to us sells them, and they're on the website.

Tattybogle89 · 24/03/2018 16:24

Yeah the entertainers around me all sell blind bags of all sorts..

But extreme saying it’s gambling. Nothing wrong with getting a surprise. They don’t risk losing everything 😂 just getting Batman instead of wonderwoman . Nothing wrong with learning disappointment

louise5754 · 24/03/2018 16:25

@Tattybogle89 thanks lol 😂😂

I had to stop DD1 watching YouTube kids because of the toy surprise shows with blind bags. She became like a mini Verucca Salt it was hideous. And the lol dolls in particular are so expensive!

Whydomypubeslooklikeanest · 24/03/2018 17:22

Meh, I travelled a 120 mile round trip when my ds was into gogos and there were none to be had where we were (and before we had internet at our house) and I spent a couple of hundred quid on a couple of boxes.

I wanted to make ds happy, and I did.

If I had the money then I would probably end up like these mums - I would say this is your issue with these parents, probably best that you left the group.
