OTT mums blind bag LOL toys

louise5754 · 23/03/2018 14:41

I'm a member of a group on Facebook that advertise the LOL dolls. Basically they're similar to blind bags but they're in a ball and you collect them for those of you that don't know. I think they're are 4 different varieties out at the minute.

These mums are seriously OTT. Quing up before the shop opens. Taking balls out of other mums hands. Drawing up / asking for diagrams of where the gold / limited addition ones are. I was going to screen shot some but I'm not sure it's allowed. Women are actually taking weighing scales into shops. Filling their trolly with the balls and weighing them. The gold ones are heavier. Some mums are actually buying the whole 24 that come in the shops display box at £144 a go.

I have bought my kids 2. They don't play with them so now if it's Christmas or their birthdays I will buy the fakes. Yes it's the parents business and their money. If it makes the child happy and all that. They are peeling the stickers off to see which ones they are getting before their kids come home from school.
Yes it's disappointing getting a blind bag / kinder egg etc with a toy you already have but isn't that the exciting bit?
If I had the money then I would probably end up like these mums and it round take the fun out of it so I'm glad I'm skint x

Bumbum, I’m genuinely surprised. I’m quite laid back about children’s toys but these are awful things. Fighting to get one?? What a lack of decorum, and I say this as Queen of Rough.

frankchickens · 23/03/2018 16:25

People are rude.
Some people are

I thought everyone had heard of blind bags?!
and some people are ignorant and make ridiculous assumptions.

LilQueenie · 23/03/2018 16:27

I get them for DD but not to excess. saying that it does add up to over £100 worth so far. The problem is a lot of them are faulty and its greed on the companies part.

I agree with taking the fun out of it too. Unwrapping them is part of the fun. I cant stand seeing them opened and then expecting full price to sell them on because it a doubler. I think we may be on the same fb group.

Bumbumtaloo · 23/03/2018 16:49

Honestly TheHungryDonkey I was shocked and the language used, I swear like a trooper (way to much!) and even I was shocked and was showing DH. I’ve been trying to find some of the posts, people wear actually pushing and shoving others it was like the Asda Black Friday sale but over these bloody dolls.

I also saw people on the bargain sites - not the for sale pages but the ones that point everyone in the direction of cheap stuff - people saying they were in stock by them and others asking them to buy and post them for them, people would send the money and disappear off of the group. It didn’t matter how many times people were told they were still doing it - wasn’t just the normal LOL dolls but the giant gold one and the luvabella dolls.

Tattybogle89 · 23/03/2018 16:52

Hardly a ridiculous assumption, they’ve been around long enough and most kids will know what they are over the age of 5

louise5754 · 23/03/2018 17:23

It's such a shame that people click onto a thread just to be funny. Don't like it move on!!!

My daughter collects lol dolls. One of the ones she has goes for £40 on eBay but she wouldn't let me sell it. In all honesty I can see why the mums clue check the doll before giving them to their kids. You can sell a clue checked one on eBay for RRP or more so makes sense if you have a lot and the kid doesn't want doubles. As she's got a few now I tend to buy the ones she wants on eBay that people have clue checked rather than take a gamble. I would never weigh a ball or fight over them though. I've seen on a Facebook page mums have bought the whole display pack and taken pics with the kids next to it, that's so greedy!

IanRushesInadequateFlushes · 23/03/2018 17:46

Jesus Christ do not google loldolls.

Those things are hideous.

My eyes!!

louise5754 · 23/03/2018 17:47

I can understand checking the clues to sell on and I can understand swapping / selling if they're duplicate. But like you say buying a whole box? If it's for a Birthday present fair enough but still if you take the whole 24 there could be 24 upset kids looking for just the one x

Apparently the doll we have kicking around the floor is a Queen Bee. Just looked on eBay and it seems to sell for ridiculous money!

15star · 23/03/2018 18:22

Hungrydonkey hide it and sell it haha. Joking! I'm surprised shops will even let one person buy them all!! I did buy the pearl playset which was very over priced but she can fit all the dolls in the giant shell so I don't mind it as much now. I saw the magazine today £4!!!!! I'd rather spend the extra 2 quid and buy a little sister

I'll tell you what grinds my gears... that they're called "blind bags" these days

What happened to " lucky bags "??

I refuse to call them anything else. But luckily DS is 2 so I don't have to worry about this shit yet...unless it's a paw patrol surprise egg

Soubriquet · 23/03/2018 20:36

Thanks. I swear this thread got into the mind of my 4 year old.

Went to a toy shop today. First since Christmas. And what did she immediately gravitate towards. That's right a bloody lol doll. Dh has currently fallen out with me for buying "a crappy piece of plastic tat" but she picked it

And I stand by every word.

My son loves bling bags. The downside is he has autism and learning disabilities. He doesn't understand that you can't choose which you get and may end up with doubles. Thankfully I have managed to find a list of the codes for each bag for the Cars and Thomas ranges. His new one is Five Nights At Freddies which don't seem to have a code. Due to watching Youtube he dreams of getting a full box to open so going to try and do that for his birthday.

Soubriquet · 23/03/2018 21:22

Cars codes?!!!! What is this? Please tell

SrDuess · 23/03/2018 21:52

My dd had some lol dolls for Xmas and I was really disappointed with them. £10 for something that looks worth now more than a fiver !

She was really into collecting shopkins and I thought they were expensive at £2.50 for 2. We stopped buying them after I realised how many spare shopkins bags and baskets we had with absolutely no use for!

Soubriquet · 24/03/2018 08:40

How do I do this water bit with the lol dolls?

I've tried both cold water and hot and nothing works. Have we got a defective doll?

Bumbumtaloo · 24/03/2018 08:58

What water bit Soubriquet each one has one of 4 things it does - wee, cry, spit or change colour. It really does depend which doll.

Soubriquet · 24/03/2018 09:05

This one is supposed to change colour according to the list. It's the lol surprise lil sisters glam club, lil black tie.

MinnieMousse · 24/03/2018 09:07

If you have children of a certain age blind bags are almost impossible to avoid.

My DC discovered them via YouTube. I have bought them a couple of LOL dolls but while they like the dolls inside all the other little bits of crap are completely wasted. I'm not buying blind bags any more as I'm fed up with the packaging. It's the same with kids' magazines. You can rarely just buy the magazine, it always comes wrapped in plastic with a selection of crummy cheap plastic toys attached.

snewsname · 24/03/2018 09:10

Why would you buy fake ones now if your children don't play with them? Confused

Bumbumtaloo · 24/03/2018 09:19

Soubriquet My DD’s said it has to be ice cold water.
