OTT mums blind bag LOL toys

louise5754 · 23/03/2018 14:41

I'm a member of a group on Facebook that advertise the LOL dolls. Basically they're similar to blind bags but they're in a ball and you collect them for those of you that don't know. I think they're are 4 different varieties out at the minute.

These mums are seriously OTT. Quing up before the shop opens. Taking balls out of other mums hands. Drawing up / asking for diagrams of where the gold / limited addition ones are. I was going to screen shot some but I'm not sure it's allowed. Women are actually taking weighing scales into shops. Filling their trolly with the balls and weighing them. The gold ones are heavier. Some mums are actually buying the whole 24 that come in the shops display box at £144 a go.

I have bought my kids 2. They don't play with them so now if it's Christmas or their birthdays I will buy the fakes. Yes it's the parents business and their money. If it makes the child happy and all that. They are peeling the stickers off to see which ones they are getting before their kids come home from school.
Yes it's disappointing getting a blind bag / kinder egg etc with a toy you already have but isn't that the exciting bit?
If I had the money then I would probably end up like these mums and it round take the fun out of it so I'm glad I'm skint x

Why do you get them if they don't play with them?

I agree these things are ridiculous. I saw all the hype about the big one £60 one at Christmas and thought about getting it for my niece. I googled the video of someone opening one and was fucking gobsmacked at what utter tat it was and the ridiculous amount of toys for the price that they got in it. I didn't get her one.

NWQM · 23/03/2018 15:26

Bonkers isn't it. Bet the group gives you a laugh though

guiltynetter · 23/03/2018 15:29

louise just ignore the rude posters!

my DD loves lol dolls but after opening them they just get discarded and the bits lost.

can’t believe people weigh them 😱😱

louise5754 · 23/03/2018 15:30

I only buy them as they enjoy opening them. They watch kids on you tube doing it. I've probably bought 2 genuine and 4 fakes. Don't make a habit of buying any.

Must be nice to have the time and money to piss away like that.

louise5754 · 23/03/2018 15:35

I could have titled the post better but I've been stuck in the house all week with tonsillitis. Think I'm on another planet at the minute and my Facebook feed is full of LOL madness lol

A lot of people did write that and have been removed from the group. I think it's a habit the mums are in.

I have 2 6yos and a 10yo - all girls. None of them are interested in a toy they don't know what it is. Dd3 describes them as kinder eggs without the chocolate - at least with the eggs you know you're getting chocolate even if the toy is rubbish. Others in their classes seem obsessed by them. Sounds like I'm very lucky!

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 23/03/2018 15:43

Mumsnet has officially lost the bloody plot.

peacheachpearplum · 23/03/2018 15:45

Soubriquet that looks nice, I think my youngest GS would like one. I could get one for an Easter gift, his parents aren't keen on too much chocolate. Are they hard to find?

Soubriquet · 23/03/2018 15:48

No peach

They are found at Sainsbury's, Wilko's and probably lots of other high street stores.

Lukeandlorelai4Ever · 23/03/2018 15:53

My dd is OBSESSED with these. They are 13 euro here and she has about 30 of them. It's all she wants and all she plays with at the moment.
I can't stand them!

TheHungryDonkey · 23/03/2018 15:53

We were given one of the LOL dolls. What a load of shite. Awful bits of plastic and tat. I do like the Lego and Playmobil bags but the LOL ones are awful. My daughter has some gold haired horror that pisses when you squeeze it.

I have never seen parents fighting over them in shops though. Is that the UK?

peacheachpearplum · 23/03/2018 15:54

Soubriquet thanks for the information. I will be in Sainsburys tomorrow so I will have a look. They look ideal for a little gift.

MinorRSole · 23/03/2018 15:54

Dd has just got into these but doesn't have 1 yet. She is planning to buy one with her birthday money. The other girls in school have them and I think she will enjoy the excitement of opening it. They are definitely over priced and I doubt she will play with it much but hoping having 1 will be enough and I suspect it will as she was the same with fingerlings and is happy with 1.

I preferred the finger spinner phase, they were cheaper!

Yanbu - it happens with all the time with these faddy things that people 'just have to have' and it creates such a mountain of landfill as it's so short lived. People buying more than they need, those just buying to shove them on eBay, everyone gets carried away with it and it sucks the joy out of it really

Bumbumtaloo · 23/03/2018 15:59

TheHungryDonkey I was quite a few posts over Christmas on Facebook it was absolutely disgusting how people were behaving to try and get LOL stuff.

Bumbumtaloo · 23/03/2018 16:00

I've just got to say something - Beanies!

In my 20s when my kids were young i did the hanging around the shops waiting for opening time to buy up the Britainia bears. Attic Treasures and beanie babys. Then sold them on to the US for a pretty profit. Happy days Grin

TroubledTribble28 · 23/03/2018 16:07

I didn't know about all the effing wrappers being non recyclable and having seen the unwrapping videos I'm quite seriously horified. .. all that plastic crap Sad

Tattybogle89 · 23/03/2018 16:12

People are rude.
I thought everyone had heard of blind bags?! Especially thanks to Lego.
lol dolls are a rip offs and I can’t beleive these people are weighing them?!
Totally feeding their kids want for these things and I wonder if the parents get more hooked on finding the right ones than the kids sometimes.

Mayhemmumma · 23/03/2018 16:20

I like LOLs! My DD (6) adores them, it's the only toy shes really into. She let's me and DH play too when normally we are banished..

The duplicate thing is beyond annoying. I never sell anything but I do sell and swap the LOLs otherwise it's such a waste. I buy second hand ones off eBay too....yep. not cool.
