Fuming with work colleague

I work with an absolute bell end. He does no work, is openly racist (proudly admits to voting UKIP and told me he moved from an area he lived "because too many black people started moving in"). My daughter is mixed race. He has been reported and my manager has done nothing about this.

Today he overhead myself and other colleagues discussing how little work he does. He walked in and said I can hear you. I explained point by point why I had said what I said. He couldn't argue with me because I only made factual statements.

I am fuming with him and my manager. She bitches about him constantly and is paid to manage him.

It's a very small company and there is no one superior to my manager I can complain to.

The racist comments were made more than three months ago so there is no legal action I can instigate.

I need the money but I am just so tempted to go in tomorrow and tell them where they can stick their shitty job. I'm almost more annoyed with my manger that the racist pillock because I expected more of her.

AIBU to want to tell them both to F off. I'm livid.

mamma12 I'm sorry that people on here are attacking you instead of this man's appalling behaviour.
He sounds obnoxious. Sadly I have known and worked with a similar person, but in a larger organisation my complaint was dealt with effectively.
In a small company, with limited scope for escalating complaints, you're stuck with a spineless manager; in your position I would be looking for another job.
Good luck.

I haven't read the full thread but just wanted to make a point that you don't have to be black or related to a black person to be offended by racists - the OP's daughter is a complete side issue. It is this kind of thinking that assumes only white people can be racist and non-whites can be the victims of racism - I'm white and racism offends me.

Your colleague sound like an utter arsehole but you are not doing yourself any favours by discussing his performance with your colleagues. If there is s problem with his work you escalate it your manager rather than moaning about it with your colleagues. You are playing into his hands and giving him the opportunity to make it look like there is fault on both sides.

cherryontopp · 25/03/2018 13:46

Firstly, yes he does sound like a complete bell end.

Secondly, your making matters worse by discussing his performance with other colleagues. You should take it to the manager again and your colleagues should.

Thirdly, voting Ukip does not mean your racist. Its how the press paint them as they raise some very valid points on how mass immigration is a drain on the NHS, public services and social housing. They campaign for a sensible points system like Australia, letting in those who can support themselves and not those who have no skills, who will have low wage jobs topped up by our taxes.

SusanBunch are you saying that racism against whites doesn’t exist?

Valsie1 · 25/03/2018 17:28

Bastardkitty...I would also like to see MN exterminate the accounts of posters who use such foul language.

SusanBunch · 25/03/2018 17:46

Valsie yes. Racism refers to structural inequality where one race dominates others. Black people might say they don’t like whites and that is prejudiced, but it will not have significant impact on whites because whites have always been the dominant race. If you can point me to an area of the world where whites have been systemically oppressed and discriminated against, I might believe that there is racism against whites.

Valsie1 · 25/03/2018 18:06

SusanBunch I’m afraid I disagree with your analogy of racism. It is not structural inequality of numbers or whether one race is more dominant over another. Racism is racism against whatever colour and definitely does exist on both sides.

SusanBunch · 25/03/2018 18:09

Fine if you disagree. Not really interested in a debate tbh.

LadyFairfaxSake · 25/03/2018 18:23

"Not really interested in a debate tbh" = I have spoken, you are wrong, shut up.

SusanBunch · 25/03/2018 18:47

😀😂
More like I really don’t have the energy. What is the actual point? Read some books about it if you are interested.

I have found that the dictionary is a good place to look up definitions.
