He will be alright I hope.

Just like the other dipstick footballer who was banned, had a fling while wife was preggers, and no fallout afais.

Leave him alone and keep your gossiping to FB with your clan/friends.

livingontheedgeee · 21/03/2018 18:52

Nobody knows how much alcohol he had in his system, he could have been just over the limit from drinking the day before. We shouldn't judge him before we know the facts. Also, he's clearly struggling with MH issues so perhaps cut him a bit of slack until we know the truth of it.

MsHarry · 21/03/2018 18:52

I agree Pist I understand what you were saying. Basically he deserves it but you have pity for the mess he finds himself in due to personal and mental health issues. Right? No idea why you were jumped on for that, many others have said the same.

JustPutSomeGlitterOnIt · 21/03/2018 18:53

What a belter.
My boyfriend and I both reckon he's finished.
Everybody fucking hates drink drivers.

I'd be mighty pissed off if I were Dec! Cheers then pal!

Gottagetmoving · 21/03/2018 19:01

I agree it's a horrible situation for all involved. Driving with alcohol in your system is totally wrong and has to be punished but there is nothing wrong with acknowledging Ant has some really bad mental issues at the moment.
People can do awful things when their MH is affected.

Lubyloo · 21/03/2018 19:03

JT05 "What was his mother thinking? If my son (and he wouldn’t) intended to D/D I’d take the keys from him. If he wouldn’t give them I’d cause him pain, "

His mother may not have had any idea he was over the limit! We don't know whether he was just over the limit or multiple times over. Even if he was substantially over he probably has a high tolerance for alcohol so his mum may not have had any idea!

lostincumbria · 21/03/2018 19:04

"Everyone hates drink drivers" - except everyone who cheers on a footballer who has been done for DUI. Find me a Liverpool fan who hates Roberto Firmino. I loves him, I do. He was an idiot, but he's paid his fine and we all moved on. Same here.

YetAnotherHelenMumsnet · 21/03/2018 19:14

Hi all,
We've had quite a few reports about this one. We do understand that this is a case that will inflame emotions but it would be helpful for us at HQ if the personal attacks could cease. Thanks.

StickyPlum77 · 21/03/2018 19:15

Is his wifethe one who was in that 90s pop group 'Deuce'? another totally irrelevant

PistFump · 21/03/2018 19:42

Thanks @MsHarry that's exactly what I was saying.

ilovegin112 · 21/03/2018 20:02

Chris Tarrant, Wayne Rooney and Kirsty Gallagher were stopped by the police and then breathalysed none of them had crashed into cars containing children plus none of them are regaled as much as cheeky chappys next door Ant and Dec,

blackheartsgirl · 21/03/2018 20:10

It really annoys me that people are blaming his mum! Fgs she may not have known and ant is an adult.

BonnieF · 21/03/2018 20:25

If the media reports of the incident are accurate, McPartlin could have killed or injured someone and is extremely fortunate not to be charged with dangerous driving.

mrsBeverleyGoldberg · 21/03/2018 20:35

Addiction changes you and any idea of good sense. One of the mum's on my school run let her drunk mother (child's grandmother,) pick her ds up while under the influence. She was breathalysed by Police waiting by her car, in front of everyone and arrested.
I don't think addicts have any idea of the damage they do. He will only get better if he wants to. It depends when he reaches rock bottom.
Tbh I don't know what his mum was thinking. I would take the keys and order a taxi. I'm not blaming her as he's the one who chose to drink and drive.

mrsBeverleyGoldberg · 21/03/2018 20:37

She would have been able to smell the alcohol coming off him. I could smell the grandmother in the playground.

MorningsEleven · 21/03/2018 20:40

@MissMary0fSweden

Blah blah blah Ant drink driving ...

Lisa is hanging out with Stavros Flatley? Are you serious?

LanguidLobster · 21/03/2018 20:44

There was a poster over in chat on a thread about Ant who said she'd lost her family because of a drink driver.

Luckily no-one was injured in this incident but I don't actually think he'd 'come back' (career wise) from it as such, looks like he needs to take a step away to become healthier and happier.

Mydoghatesthebath · 21/03/2018 20:45

What a sad situation.

Hopefully he will get help, thankfully no one was hurt and I really hope he can rehabilitate his fantastic career with Dec.

He has a last chance to pull back
Up and hopefully he will take it.

It’s horrible to see anyone in the grip of an addiction. Good luck to him

Mydoghatesthebath · 21/03/2018 20:46

You can’t always smell alcohol. Depends on the drink involved.

CalmBeforeTheWave · 21/03/2018 21:03

I disagree with posters saying he won't get a custodial sentence. If he is found guilty of drink driving, they will take into account the effect of what he did - crash into a car at high speed containing passengers including a child. I would say if guilty a custodial sentence is highly probable. One function of the courts is to set examples and what better example of zero tolerance than to jail a public figure, more so if they are popular because the message is very clear that nobody can get away with drink driving.

Sparklingbrook · 21/03/2018 21:08

How many threads is that now? We need an Ant McPartlin topic...

Redglitter · 21/03/2018 21:31

There's no way hell get a custodial sentence unless he was massively over the limit. You only have to look at what other people have been sentenced. People who've caused serious injury and sometimes death don't always get a custodial sentence. Hell get what most drunk drivers get. A fine and a ban - neither of which will cause him any hardship

HelenaDove · 21/03/2018 21:36

A fine and a ban will not affect him

But community service would.......

MissMary0fSweden · 21/03/2018 21:37

@MorningsEleven yep. See

Lisa and Stavros

Rumours that Dec is being comforted by DJ Talent are as yet unconfirmed

Redglitter · 21/03/2018 21:38

For someone in his circumstances or indeed any 'celeb' that's a great idea.
