I hope the court awards the family whose car he wrecked substantial damages. No excuses fir drunk driving none whatsoever

raisedbyguineapigs · 21/03/2018 18:26

I don't think Rooney drove, did he? He got behind the wheel of the car then someone called the police and he didn't get to go anywhere. Not sure why Ant's mum didn't do the same if she couldn't control him. I wonder if his mum indulges him, that's why he's left his wife to go back to mummy who lets him do what he wants?

The same sentencing would apply whether he set off or not.

For What? People are involved in crashes every day. Sadly many with drunk drivers and many with much more serious consequences. I can't imagine a court has any reason to award them any damages

kierenthecommunity · 21/03/2018 18:31

...although just googled Rooney and he was ‘stopped’ by the police so must have been driving

dontcallmethatyoucunt · 21/03/2018 18:31

I know the Judge that sentenced George Michael.

divadee · 21/03/2018 18:31

raisedby Rooney was pulled over for a faulty break light and then breathilised. That was kind of overlooked by the media as they wanted to feed on the frenzy that he was off cheating on his wife.

HildaZelda · 21/03/2018 18:32

I've seen comments online saying things like 'his wife obviously drove him to it' etc, stuff like that.
How DARE anyone try and blame her. She's clearly been to he'll and back over his behaviour and absolutely NONE of this is her fault.

HildaZelda · 21/03/2018 18:33
  • hell
MillieMoosMam · 21/03/2018 18:34

He's worth millions, don't think the fine will bother him!

As for the family, yes terrible and lucky no one was hurt, but come on - they're quids in! :)

(really hope they're not arses.....Mag/Paper deals.....'Crushed by an Ant - My story' etc......)

TheMogget · 21/03/2018 18:37

Portia punitive damages are not awarded in the UK. The people he hit can sue him for damage to their vehicles and any injuries including pain and suffering, no more.

NotTakenUsername · 21/03/2018 18:38

I read somewhere on one of the ten million threads on this man a similar thread to this earlier today, that they’re a really good indicator of what type Mumsnetter you are.

It wasn’t a compliment, but it was highly astute. They may have used more swears!

I hope I haven’t sullied my name by taking the time to post on this, even in a disparaging manner.

JT05 · 21/03/2018 18:40

What was his mother thinking? If my son (and he wouldn’t) intended to D/D I’d take the keys from him. If he wouldn’t give them I’d cause him pain, targeting a delicate area, until I got hold of the keys!
This would be not only be to protect him, but also the public.

I have no sympathy for him at all, nobody forced him to drink drive.

NewYearNewMe18 · 21/03/2018 18:41

Also is there chance he will go to prison for this?

no, thankfully

MsHarry · 21/03/2018 18:43

As expected when you're caught driving over the limit. I do hope he gets himself sorted properly this time.He was very lucky nobody got hurt and that he didn't kill his own mother! All that money and success and desperately unhappy.

AverageSnowflake · 21/03/2018 18:43

I've got no pity for drink driving.

Amanduh · 21/03/2018 18:45

Lately Chris Tarrant, Rooney, Kirsty Gallacher. Nobody was very bothered. Or started 5 threads about it damning them. Selective fury I find. A lot of footballers have been done for it anyway, I suppose being who he is and the golden boy of tv there’s more attention.
I feel for the bloke, but there’s no excuse for drink driving , its disgraceful and inexcusable. Luckily nobody was seriously hurt. Hope rehab and this, a driving ban and a fine will be a wake up call. However with addiction and MH I know it’s not that easy or logical. I hope he can get through it.

Rachie1973 · 21/03/2018 18:47

He won't go to prison..... thank goodness! Just like the 1000s of other first time drink driving offenders aren't. There is absolutely no reason why he should be punished more severely than any other offender. Being famous isn't a good enough reason.

I have no sympathy for drink drivers, its a decision you make and have to live with. Sadly, in too many cases it means you make someone else live with that poor decision too though.

Sweetpea55 · 21/03/2018 18:48

And how is Ant McPartlin being charged for drink driving AIBU?

SoupDragon · 21/03/2018 18:48

Why on earth would they “lock him up”?

There’s always a delay between arrest and charging. Police need to gather evidence and make sure they have enough for a prosecution.
