to not be particularly pleased when ds comes home from nursery having read a book about all the monsters in Dr Who?

Another child brought it in, and he and ds spent the morning looking at it.

I would rather things like this from home were "oohed" over briefly by staff before being put away on a high shelf "to keep it safe until home time".

Ds particularly interested in "The Garlics"

"Mummy why do the Garlics try to kill Dr. Who?"

No, I haven't read the whole thread F&Z. I didn't say you read those to your child. I was just giving some thoughts. I not quite so sure why you are getting so up tight about this - I wasn't rude.

FrannyandZooey · 11/05/2007 08:20

Well I still don't understand your point, niceglasses. I didn't say that you had been rude, but I am not sure how your thoughts were relevant to the discussion when nobody had said the things you were complaining about.

Filly go and boil your head with some lentils

think dr who is fab really, mainly cos of the my street thing, but no fkn way would i let my nearly 4 yo watch it. no fkn way.

niceglasses · 11/05/2007 08:23

My point was I don't see where the line is btwn Dr Who and some of the other more 'accepted' scifi such as Fforde and Colfer. But if its not relevant, sorry.

Fillyjonk · 11/05/2007 08:25

eh?

i wouldnt let my kids watch those either though

i am married to a total sci fi nerd and we are both pretty interested in science and no way would they watch any sci fi really, nothing suitable.

Oh niceglasses don't be offended

you have a such a good posting name for starters

I thought you were applying what you said to the posters on this thread, and meaning those of us who objected to Dr Who were splitting hairs

as I have said my ds is still young but I would partly differentiate between books and tv programmes because the latter are so graphic and in your face, and leave nothing to the child's own imagination. I think books can be very scary but to some extent are limited by the capacity of the child to imagine scary things. TV however is RIGHT THERE in front of you and unless you hide your eyes there's no way to tone it down.

and in the case I was asking about, this was a book with photos in so again very realistic and graphic
