I know ianbu. Although maybe slightly U as I know these type of threads have been done to death.

Ive just been on Facebook for the first time in ages and the first two words I see are 'hot choccy'. I can't stand it.

That is all.

@CowesTwo I’ve noticed it only on tv too and in novels going on about women wrapping fingers around mugs of coffee. And the spoon twirling..who does that? Only in adverts. And hiding galaxy under your sofa/bed cushions? It would end up sat on and melted or eaten by the dog Confused

YerAuntFanny · 22/03/2018 15:27

#makingmemories always makes me laugh.

I've noticed that the people "making memories" tend to have a LOT of photos of their kids doing anything to post on social media. No, you're not "making memories", you're trying to show everyone what a super parent you are even though you're too busy coaching your child on how to pose and watching them through a phone screen to enjoy the moment.

The only thing your child will remember is how annoying it is that you're more interested in displaying them to strangers than interacting with them. #parentinggoalsindeed

PasstheStarmix · 22/03/2018 15:28

@Zaphodsotherhead but it’s not between meals it’s at the end of the day. Supper has to stay...Blush

Zaphodsotherhead · 22/03/2018 15:34

Ah, you mean like the cheeky choccie bikkie before bedders?

I'll get my coat.

MERLYPUSSEDOFF · 22/03/2018 15:39

It is only ever acceptable to write it on a shopping list. You never speak the words. Ever.

PasstheStarmix · 22/03/2018 15:44

@Zaphodsotherhead was thinking more a bowl of cereal actually if you have the ‘munchies’ argghhh there’s another one...Blush

Ski40 · 22/03/2018 16:08

Ooooh I almost forgot!!!...."CHILLAX". Cringe...😣

TheHoundsofLove · 22/03/2018 16:13

I think that Kwik Save has a lot to answer for...

soupforbrains · 22/03/2018 16:54

ooooh Chillax make me want to very much NOT 'chillax' and instead punch the speaker in the face.

Hakarl · 22/03/2018 17:10

I was looking up kid on etymonline.com as it irrationally annoys me that people are irrationally annoyed by this word - it's hundreds of years old in the sense of 'child'.

Then I found a word a few entries up that I'm sure all of you will enjoy: kicksie-wicksie meaning wife. I think we should bring it back - it could be the equivalent of 'hubby'. Although I don't know why Shakespeare couldn't just write like a bloody adult.

YouBetterWORK · 22/03/2018 17:30

Oh gosh the "Live, Love, Laugh" bollocks... along with 'inspirational' stuff in pictures on the wall. Or even worse written on the wall itself! Along with the 'In this house we do....' shite you see advertised on facebook or the recipes for a #fam, one cup of laughter, two cups of love, a pinch of understanding etc...Envy (vom not envy)

soupforbrains · 22/03/2018 17:36

oh GOD! YouBetter yes yes yes to all those things. Just SO twee and boastful in that awful 'isn't life wonderful and aren't we blessed' way of the social-media world.

bleugh.

ShotsFired · 22/03/2018 17:41

@YouBetterWORK Or even worse written on the wall itself! Along with the 'In this house we do....' shite you see advertised on facebook...

It's mutating onto stair risers now too. As you go up the stairs you can vomit on every step.

dontticklethetoad · 22/03/2018 17:45

Urghhh this thread is just getting worse Grin

Babyplaymat · 22/03/2018 17:50

I've heard of gobbling irons actually.

Evening meal is supper here, unless going out in which case it is dinner.

soupforbrains · 22/03/2018 17:52

I blame Not On The High Street...

It used to be a great place to find less common gifts, but it has morphed into a purveyor of hideous twee, tacky, self-aggrandising, vomit-inducing tat.

Ski40 · 22/03/2018 17:56

Personally I find the makingmemories hashtag a bit disturbing as I only ever used to see this expression in the context of a person having a terminal illness. I don't really like applying it to other occasions tbh, there is something sad about it 😢

NoWordForFluffy · 22/03/2018 18:19

I think Nigel Slater ruined supper for me!

And YY to detesting 'brekkie' and 'cuppa'.

NoWordForFluffy · 22/03/2018 18:19

Oh, and 'boc boc'?! Death is too good for the person who says that!

QuiteCleanBandit · 22/03/2018 18:23

Drinking Chocolate, plate up and the worst -
Clean plates ( to describe a meal that has been enjoyed)
All make me have this wierd physical feeling thats unbearable Confused

BlondeB83 · 22/03/2018 18:41

From your thread title I was prepared to say YABU for calling it that but YADNBU.

lizzie1970a · 22/03/2018 18:46

I completely agree with you Hakarl: "it irrationally annoys me that people are irrationally annoyed by this word". It's the superior attitude that goes with it. I now know what to reply to this (i.e. what you've just said).

ALongHardWinter · 22/03/2018 18:49

I know IABU but I hate it when someone says 'chocolate bar' instead of bar of chocolate,or 'bag of crisps' instead of packet of crisps.

YoThePussy · 22/03/2018 18:52

I have never heard Gobbling rods or irons before, dreadful.

My Grandmother used to call my sister and I Girlie Whirlies, loathed it.

Not a word but my ex boss used to take a huge slurp of her coffee at work and say ‘Ahh’ very loudly everytime. I used to dream of shoving her mug and contents where the sun don’t shine.

ScrumpyBetty · 22/03/2018 19:11

This thread is def so funnies! Vair hilair!
