Did Lorraine Kelly ever do real journalism?

am just wondering , her morning programme seems to be full of frothy nonsense and camp guys working with her, no substance or anything worth watching

I wonder if she ever feels like she can't go back to doing anything real or interesting now, its as if cos she lost weight all she knows about now is hairstyles and twirly skirts

It's really boring. I very rarely watch "normal" tv now certainly not the 5 primary channels very often.

Competition from Netflix and similar doesn't seem to have inspired the channel heads instead they seem to have given up and are sticking to old stale formats and known quantities as far as personnel is concerned. Even in drama etc it's rare a new actor or actress is given a significant role.

Whole thing needs a serious shake up.

NFATR · 21/03/2018 16:11

The sisterhood is pretty weak on here at times, innit?

What is weak is claiming that all women think or feel or do the same in any way because we all happen to have vaginas. Sisterhood my hole. I'm not your sister, and neither is Lorraine Vacuous Nincompoop Kelly.

Oblomov18 · 21/03/2018 16:13

Presumably there was an opening, after the breakfast programme for a lighthearted chat style programme. She took it. This morning and loose women are the same. So presumably this is what the public want?

treaclesoda · 21/03/2018 16:14

I'm sure I read somewhere that Lorraine Kelly was the first journalist to report from the scene of the Lockerbie disaster, so between that and Dunblane she has certainly done some pretty distressing reporting.

Can't say I'm a fan but maybe she just had enough of the serious stuff and fancied making a load of money doing frothy nonsense? I think if that job opportunity came my way I'd do it too.

ssd · 21/03/2018 16:17

this morning and loose women, god help us, are crap and froth and nonsense too, but they sometimes cover a bit of current affairs, don't they?

all I see LT talking about are skirts and makeup and what someone in Hollywood did.

Just had a quick look on wiki and reminded she was sacked in the early 90's and very quickly reinstated into essentially this fairly cushy role.

Definitely suggests she has dirt on someone (or even a few someone's)

frankchickens · 21/03/2018 16:49

What is weak is claiming that all women think or feel or do the same in any way because we all happen to have vaginas.

Which I didn't, but suit yersel.

Roussette · 21/03/2018 17:06

She might well have done a good job reporting at Dunblane/Lockerbie but we're talking 30 flippin' years ago! She is now just shoes, cardis, the silly bloke from Hollywood with the dyed hair and that fashion chap rabbiting on.

For a week once, Lisa Snowden did her spot and she was so refreshing. Asked proper questions, didn't simper and giggle, had a fab sense of humour etc. Why the hell LK is still on there god alone knows

peacheachpearplum · 21/03/2018 17:12

I wonder if she ever gets fed up with the level shes at now, sort of comfort tv for grannies I'm a granny, never watched her show. None of friends watch her show, my sister doesn't watch her show. By the sounds of it lots of younger women watch it. Grannies watch all sorts, we are allowed to go out without our shawls and we don't have to sit in rocking chairs sucking boiled sweets (although I do like boiled sweets.)

logicalmum · 21/03/2018 17:56

Nothing mean at all in slating a female celeb, same as male. If they're annoying they're annoying. Just because a female is "successful" doesn't mean they're beyond criticism. Lorraine Kelly is one of many celebs i can't stand. If you put yourself in the public eye expect to get talked about. Why should we like someone just because they happen to be female and successful. Sod that. Apart from that how odd and boring it would be if all we did was worship and adore them. Their egos are quite big enough as it is.

Wateroffaduck · 21/03/2018 18:09

I am sure Lorraine is a lovely woman, kind to orphans and doesn’t kick puppies but I cannot stand her show, never have, it is so boring and empty, nothing of value. To have survived that many changes at the top she has dirt on someone.

In balance I like the morning show that’s on before her - but only when Piers Morgan is not on, just too loud and shouty and don’t get me started on his “I am right and you are wrong” interview style.

But the BBC version is so bloody boring. I let DD watch my little pony instead.

milliesmaller · 21/03/2018 18:19

I doubt it- (to answer your question OP.)

Sweetpea55 · 21/03/2018 18:34

Everything is 'really really. She's superfluous... Like underarm hair. And soooooo ooooo gushy

ForalltheSaints · 21/03/2018 18:45

Is it not the point of her programme? ITVs breakfast tv has always been fluffy tv- a tabloid without the nasty right wing politics.

Worst thing is that the trend of 'auto cuties' reading the weather forecast was started by them- women who are no longer on the show much over the age of 40.

Hippywannabe · 21/03/2018 20:57

I have met her a couple of times, on one I spent the day with her and was in a magazine shoot with her. She is just lovely to everyone no matter where they are in the social scale. She is very firm about what she wants to happen and I can imagine, gets the last word on things but is a fabulously kind woman.
(Disclaimer, I am not famous)

Sparklingbrook · 21/03/2018 21:04

I have never understood how after the short stint she did with Aled Jones presenting GMB (or whatever it was then) when it failed she just got her end of the show show back again. Confused

The show itself is a bit odd, tacked onto GMB at the end.

I am sure she's a really nice person etc but she's pretty dire to watch. So I don't. Grin

NC4Now · 21/03/2018 21:11

I’m a proper serious reporter but I love Lorraine on in the morning. We all need to get away from the heavy stuff sometimes.

News reporting can be pretty harrowing at times and in my 40s, I’m getting to the point where a slot talking rara skirts and HRT sounds pretty appealing.

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 21/03/2018 22:14

Do you think being annoying and/or thick as fuck are in the job descriptions at ITV? I can't think of anyone on that channel I like.

HelenaDove · 21/03/2018 22:40

She doesnt show a hell of a lot of sisterhood herself does she Happy to have a go at female celebs over things like weight and fitness DVDs. But male celebs who drink drive get fawning sycophancy.

Sisterhood my backside.

ssd · 22/03/2018 10:00

have any of you seen her in the wayfair advert?

its beyond cringey, the dance she does at the end, it actually makes me blush

its twee beyond twee

OP posts:
YourVagesty · 22/03/2018 10:01

It's odd that people are saying how great she was during the reporting of Dunblane. I was in primary school then and, well I'm very much not in primary school now. Has she done anything notable in the last couple of decades?

Sparklingbrook · 22/03/2018 12:00

The Wayfair ad with her doing a 'workout' in normal clothes and then starts going on about 'what if I want to be fancy?' Is that so we all know Wayfair isn't just for the scumbags? Wink Confused

ssd · 22/03/2018 12:22

I know sb, its all so beyond stupid and did you notice, they are doing their wee workout in normal clothes in the kitchen then suddenly they are doing the workout in the bedroom, then LK comes downstairs and does a cutsey wee dance

god its tragic

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 22/03/2018 12:31

Yes it would be better if it went

LK-'but what if I want to be fancy?'
Other woman -'Probably best to go to John Lewis'.

Grin

The cutesy wee dance is horrible. I bet she got ££££s for that too.

RoseWhiteTips · 22/03/2018 12:40

She is just so annoying. I have only caught glimpses of her vapid morning programme, thank god.
