Apologies for the Daily Shite link but I am so pissed off about this I had to post about it
www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-5521669/Jeremy-McConnell-strip-Channel-4s-Naked-Attraction.html

How is it appropriate to have someone convicted of Domestic Abuse appear on a dating show?! Am I going mad? I mean, I don't understand why anyone is hiring him for anything but WTF. Please tell me you're all shocked too?!

PS for full disclosure, I originally posted this in the feminist section but we were so angry we felt it should be shared elsewhere on MN:

SneakyGremlins · 20/03/2018 17:27

Hang on, Channel 4 have denied it?

BoreOfWhabylon · 20/03/2018 17:31

How bizarre!

MyBeloved · 20/03/2018 17:32

This is shocking!

McTufty · 20/03/2018 17:33

I sincerely hope this turns out to be untrue.

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 20/03/2018 17:34

Oooh where have channel 4 denied it?

BoreOfWhabylon · 20/03/2018 17:36

In the article

"However, a spokesperson for Channel 4 told MailOnline: 'We have not commissioned Celebrity Naked Attraction.'"

CuriousaboutSamphire · 20/03/2018 17:36

Well, they say they haven't commissioned the celebrity show, but that doesn't mean the production company aren't going to make it... even if it never makes the screens.

As I said on the other thread, I emailed the production company
www.studiolambert.com/contact_uk.html

This is my email:

I have read that Jeremy McConnell is booked to appear in your 'celebrity special’ editions of Naked Ambition.

I would like to ask why? Did anyone stop to think about what makes him a celebrity in the first place? I appreciate that the heightened media interest in a man convicted of domestic abuse could be seen, by some, as an added publicity draw for your entertainment production. But really? A man convicted of beating his partner - on a televised dating show? Have you really got no idea what a twisted picture of ‘dateable’ you will be projecting. You will, effectively, be telling young women that you endorse him as partner material, telling men that, regardless of their violent pasts, if they are considered to be ‘beautiful’ they can still make a living being held up as desirable love object.

Shame on whoever it was who chose to book him. If that person was male he needs a lesson on misogyny and how to avoid looking like a domestic violence excuser. If a woman she needs to raise her levels of self confidence and self worth.

Overall, I find the whole concept shameful!

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 20/03/2018 17:38

Seems there's now a line in the article denying the program. Pretty sure that wasn't there when i first posted this earlier because if so, why write the article?
Here's hoping it's not true and he can crawl back under his rock.

OP posts:
SneakyGremlins · 20/03/2018 17:39

Wasn't it, Hodge? Interesting Grin

CuriousaboutSamphire · 20/03/2018 17:40

It wasn't. I had the older window open and it just said that they had contacted them for comment.

So the line in my email about it being a publicity thing is probably bang in the nail!

Another reason to avoid The Scum and The Fail!

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 20/03/2018 17:48

Thanks @CuriousaboutSamphire
Momentarily doubted myself there!
Let's hope it backfires on him.

Apparently they are desperate and he is the only one who has replied to the mass emails sent.

Its very inappropriate, but tbh the whole idea of this show as a celeb version (and the normal version actually) is pretty inappropriate too

www.thesun.co.uk/tvandshowbiz/5850798/jeremy-mcconnell-set-to-bare-all-as-he-signs-up-for-channel-4s-naked-attraction/

Will copy the text as its the sun..but it does seem to be desperation

JEREMY McConnell is the first star to sign up for the one-off celebrity special of Naked Attraction for Channel 4's Stand Up To Cancer.

The troubled reality show regular has responded to blanket emails from bookers desperate to sign up single celebs who are prepared to strip off.

The Channel 4 series hosted by Anna Richardson sees singletons choose from six naked contestants partially hidden in frosted glass boxes, before they strip off themselves.

Irish model-turned-reality regular Jeremy, 27, has had a turbulent couple of years since falling for ex Hollyoaks actress Stephanie Davies, who he now has a one-year-old son Caben-Albi with, on Celebrity Big Brother in 2016.

Last year he was sent to jail for five weeks after attacking her while she was holding their child. He has also admitted to cocaine binges.

A source close to Jeremy said: "He's hit rock bottom and thinks that doing this show for a good cause could help turn his public profile around - even if it does mean getting naked. He's not ashamed of his tackle."

While filming in Manchester has been pencilled in for May, Channel 4 has not yet set a screening date and the show has still to be formally commissioned.

The Sun's Bizarre column revealed last week how show bosses had struggled to sign any names for the talent after Lauren Pope, Jamie Laing and Joey Essex all shunned the show.

A production source said: “The celebrity one-off show would be a ratings hit, with massive viewing figures.

“But producers are having a nightmare in trying to sign up the usual reality star suspects because no-one is prepared to to strip naked on telly.

@CuriousaboutSamphire

I don’t think it works like that though because they’d lose so much money. I thought they would pitch the idea, get it commissioned and then make it. All fake news to generate PR for the loser. I would laugh if one of the other rumoured celebrities went on Twitter and said they hadn’t been approached and both Channel 4 and the studio also said it didn’t exist and it was obvious he was lying.

MissionItsPossible · 20/03/2018 18:10

Oh ^ just read that link. God how desperate and sad.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 20/03/2018 18:20

Well, it isn't true, he has not been signed up for the show!

I have already had a response

Your email has been passed to me. I’m XXXX the Series Producer of Naked Attraction. I just wanted to get in touch to let you know that this press story is incorrect. Jeremy McConnell has not been offered to take part in any filming of Naked Attraction. I hope this answers your questions below.

I told him where it started, where else I know it is being reported, that Channel 4 deny commissioning it and that I will report this back to Mumsnet Smile

I've never emailed anyone like that before Grin

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 20/03/2018 18:22

Yay @CuriousaboutSamphire
Well done. Well hopefully they will think twice about it in the future.

OP posts:
MissionItsPossible · 20/03/2018 19:08

@CuriousaboutSamphire Is there any more to that email? Just as I noticed that he didn’t mention Celebrity Naked Attraction so maybe they are scouting names and considering the idea, even if it’s just a thought at this time, even if not considering him.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 20/03/2018 19:17

Ooh! No, apart from his full name, that was all there was to it. I specifically said the celebrity version on my email! I took it that the any filming of Naked Attraction meant all of it.. like the same crew does Celebrity GBBO etc.

I think I shall keep an eye on it and if it turns out that McConnell is on it, I shall simply quote XX back to himself!

A waiting game, for best effect, I think Smile

BoreOfWhabylon · 20/03/2018 20:13

Must say I like the cut of your jib Samphire Grin
