To be annoyed when disable badge holders use parent and toddler spaces

Well i probably am being unreasonable but i find this more of a cheak than anything. Me and my dp and dd luckily found a parent and toddler parking space (quite rare that happens) so i was happy about that. When i was loading dd into pushchair, someone went leaving an empty space and straight in was a couple with a disabled badge even though there were normal spaces free too. When they got out of the car i said to them 'you know these spaces are for parents with babies and pushchairs'. They said to me all grumy 'there isn't any disabled spaces'. I asked if they had been downstairs as there is always spaces and they said no we haven't, we are fine here'.

I felt very annoyed because if i can't find a mother and child space, i find a normal space and wouldn't even consider parking in a disable spot for obvious reasons plus they all kick off at people who do so why should it be different here. This couple walked straight into the shop we were next to and thats when i realised it wasn't about finding a disabled spot for them, they just wanted to park right outside the store for their own selfish convinience meanwhile some parent is struggling in a normal space to get her kids out the car with a tiny gap.

I think Icing is newish - a p&t thread virgin.

kittyhas6 · 08/05/2007 19:07

llittlelapin, I said that because it is not being considerate to park there and therefore preventing a mother and child from using that space if there are disabled spaces available.
Why would someone use a m*t space when there were disabled spaces available?

SparklyGothKat · 08/05/2007 19:22

You also said that 'If I go to a supermarket and cannot find a spare M&T bay then I have to leave.' thats a bit OTT don't you think. I have 3 children, 2 who are disabled and if I can't get in the disabled bays or P&T, I park elsewhere, I manage! You have to...

SparklyGothKat · 08/05/2007 19:28

still makes me giggle thinking about the day me and misdee were in tesco, parked in a 'normal' bay, even though we had 2 littlies with us and we saw a young couple with a baby, parked in the disabled bays, without a badge! Me and misdee decided that having a baby makes you disabled... why did noone tell me before!!!???

kittyhas6 · 08/05/2007 19:29

Why does that follow? It doesn't. Good on you then. I can't manage six young kids across a crowded and dangerous carpark without causing considerable stress and distress to us all.

belgo · 08/05/2007 19:31

Kitty - you take all six kids to the supermarket? Would it not be easier to order food online, or get your dp to do the shopping?

SparklyGothKat · 08/05/2007 19:34

do you not go shopping during the day when the older kids are at school, I do most of the time, much easier...

Piffle · 08/05/2007 19:34

I have a blue badge for dd , yet never use it at the supermarket as feel those spaces are for people with more serious problems than dd has (poor eyesight which is easily dealt with by my holding her hand)
I have been bollocked by some mad bitch before, who saw my blue badge and asked why oh why I took up a much needed P+T space
I told her to fuck off and get a life

piffle love your blunt and too the point repsonse.

lou33 · 08/05/2007 20:26

i think there is a correlation between this thread and my food intake, it makes me want to eat

kittyhas6 · 08/05/2007 20:33

Why would a m&t bay be closer than a disabled one? I have never seen that. In my experience the disabled bays are always closer to the supermarket.

SparklyGothKat · 08/05/2007 20:34

at our tesco the P&T spaces are closer than the disabled, which I find very strange

kittyhas6 · 08/05/2007 20:39

That is strange. It would make sense for someone using a disabled badge to want to park as close as poss to the store. If there is a choice between a closer m&t bay and a further away disabld one then they should use the M&T, certainly.

onlyjoking9329 · 08/05/2007 20:55

i have used the parent & child spaces many times thou prefer to use the disabled spaces if i can find any, i tend to get dirty looks whichever i park in, if i park in P&C with my 3 who are 13, 13 & 10, other parents think my kids are too old, if i park in the disabled then i get looks as none of us use a wheelchair (yet)
i have three kids with autism and a DH with MS & a brain tumour, but none of these things are visable. our three blue badges are quite visable thou

wassername · 08/05/2007 21:59

A bit off the point in a way, but I saw a piece on the news a few days ago about how disabled badges are being stolen and sold on to non-disabled people - can you believe some people actually think "ooh, yes, I'll buy that disabled badge so I can park in disabled bays and on double yellows - that'll be handy"...are there no limits to some people's selfishness ?

misdee · 08/05/2007 22:01

wassername, thats been happening for years. with dh new bvadge there was a note telling us to treat it as any other valuable and remove from car when not in use.

sparkly, at morrisons the p+t are also slightly closer than disabled spaces.

wassername · 08/05/2007 22:06

Misdee - blimey. So you really ought to take it out of the car because it might lead someone to break into it - just like if you left a mobile phone on the seat...makes it a bit tricky doesn't it. Would you get away with putting a note in the window saying "I have a blue badge but have taken it with me for security reasons"...?

misdee · 08/05/2007 22:09

i know! if you display it in the window you car could get broken into, its a rough deal. there is a company which makes a strong lock thing for blue badges, thats how bad things have gotton.

2shoes · 08/05/2007 22:15

my trouble is I have a disabled van so it kind of advertises tha fact that there is a badge on board

onlyjoking9329 · 08/05/2007 22:17

i knew there was a good reason to have three badges

wassername · 08/05/2007 22:23

Onlyjoking - as you're still posting - I also had a DH with a brain tumour. I wish you strength.
