It’s not helpful if I asked you not to do it & you did it anyway!

DH away & we’re pretty much housebound due to various bugs dc & I currently have. MIL has come for lunch (was late which has annoyed me but never mind) & just keeps bloody meddling & faffing with stuff. She’s just run a full double sink for 1 small saucepan after I told her to leave it as would go in dishwasher. Rearranged stuff on windowsill (think put stuff away/got other stuff out of cupboards in its place). Also put a wash on when I’ve specifically said it’s delicates to be hand washed, most of stuff is now fucking ruined.

Why can’t she just come round, eat & play with dgc. She’s now muttering about being helpful as I’ve mentioned the ruined clothes.

FFS! Sorry, rant over

YANBU. Its not helpful to force "help" on people! I hope you all feel better soon Flowers

Oh I can relate, mine does this too. She'll turn up and start rearranging the garden while I'm trying to clean the house, cook dinner, look after 2 under 2 and put clean sheets on the beds etc. And then she'll bang on about what a hero she is for being so helpful.
Its really annoying!

Just tell her. How did she get to the washing machine and set it going without you noticing what she was doing?

If she's interfering in the kitchen, don't let it get that far, as soon as she sets foot in there ask her to go and do something with the children.

Don't give her the opportunity to meddle.

It’s in the utility & suprisingly quiet so behind closed doors & with 4dc you don’t generally notice. Plus it was on a quick wash (same as a hand wash according to her).

Thank you WhatWould
