...to wonder how MNHQ knows that a poster is a PBP?

Just wondering really - I presume they have to use a new email address to create a new account, so how can MNHQ link that up with a previously banned account?

They are psychic

Stinkerpoop · 17/03/2018 21:12

IP address?

drinkswineoutofamug · 17/03/2018 21:12

Do they go off your IP address?

I had to google that one!

The Secret Service Does Not Comment On Procedure

CrustyCob · 17/03/2018 21:16

They have photographs up on the office wall and a fingerprint data base drawn from past keyboard usage.
They also have an unmarked car driving round London pinging and triangulating to check PBPs last known locations.

NotAllTimsWearCapes · 17/03/2018 21:18

They can smell them

Idontdowindows · 17/03/2018 21:19

HWID or IP address.

kalapattar · 17/03/2018 21:20

Your device gives off a special signal so MNHQ just knows its you.

Deadwood58 · 17/03/2018 21:22

Are you a PBP OP?

A thread I had been following was just deleted with the PBP message and it just made me wonder how they knew!

I have never heard of IP addresses or HWIDs before, so clearly I'm very technologically backward.

AlonsoTigerHeart · 17/03/2018 21:22

They ask them

Mumsnet: are you a pbp?
Ppb: yes
Mumsnet:ffs, we've talked about this..

crashbangwhallop · 17/03/2018 21:24

You ask too many questions op...

Any mention of twins caused a rotating beacon to flash.

Oblomov18 · 17/03/2018 21:26

PBP's get right on my nerves.
Especially when they are concerned about an abused child playing a instrument!!

NameyMcChangeRae · 17/03/2018 21:26

Creambun - especially if they are referred to as DT, and someone in the family has ASD...

Deadwood58 · 17/03/2018 21:27

@Oblomov18

That was indeed the thread that prompted the question!

Bluntness100 · 17/03/2018 21:27

I'd have to assume they check the isp also, it's the most commonly used method. As such if someone signs up with a different name. using the same isp, then they know it's the same person.

Oblomov18 · 17/03/2018 21:28

I know Deadwood Wink

paxillin · 17/03/2018 21:28

Some PBPs are really obvious. Beanie will be recognised by most MNetters after one sentence.

Idontdowindows · 17/03/2018 21:28

Oh, that's where that thread went then. Grin

ThinkingOfCeline · 17/03/2018 21:29

Pretty sure it's the IP address. Forgive me if you know this but just in case you don't...
In layman's terms an IP address is kind of like your home address: each house has an address and whether you send a letter signed from Person A or Person B it has still been sent from that one address. Online, your device has an address and that is used to connect and send data. So whether you log in as CF banned user A, or CF New user B mumsnet recognize the same IP address and kick you off.

ThinkingOfCeline · 17/03/2018 21:31

If I've ever been condescending there sorry. One bottle of wine in and I want to share all I know...

Oblomov18 · 17/03/2018 21:31

This family is dripping in money.
I think they are abusive.
I've emailed the teacher.
Errrr defamation of character and libel.
I know my law.
