I made many mistakes when younger

As everyone does

But I’ve never got my life properly on track.

It's hard to say without much detail, are we talking drink, drugs, criminal offences, family fallouts, messing about at school and not getting qualifications? There's always a way to turn it around. The how depends on the mistakes you want to come back from. What do you think has stopped you moving on and changing things in your life?

Without knowing the details, yes, it can be hard but having real life support around you makes things far easier.
