Detention for forgetting water bottle

Our local (primary) school has this as a policy. Forget your water bottle? First warning. Second time - detention. It's part of their 'uniform policy', so apparently forgetting your water bottle is equivalent to wearing the wrong jumper. Which is surely more of a choice than an accidental error.

I get that hydration is important. But this is insane, right? They can't detain my 4 year old for a mistake her parents might have made?

FFS is this the army or primary school?

Schools seem to be getting more and more ridiculous with their rules and sanctions.

I'd hate to be at school nowadays.

It applies to all kids in the school, so from Reception upwards. We were all sent a message about it via the parents app. I have no idea what their interpretation of detention is - whether it's losing part of your break, or adding to the end of the school day - but I intend to find out.

They're insisting a water bottle is a necessary part of the uniform, but if you wear the wrong trousers or shoes, for example, that's an active choice (as in, you don't 'forget' to wear the correct stuff - you might not have it, or it might be in the wash, or whatever). But you don't choose to forget your water bottle. It's utterly bizarre.

And as for rethinking my school choice...I do, sadly. Most days.

We sort of have this where I teach (no hat or water = no outdoor play & you have to stay in the classroom), but to be fair I'm in a country that routinely hits 40° plus in the summer term.

In practice, all the junior school staff keep a few spares in a cupboard somewhere. My dd2 fell foul of it the other day & lost her playtime because she is a repeat offender who leaves a trail of water bottles all over the campus!

Have to say I was fully supportive as I'm as annoyed by it as her teacher is (it's me usually who schleps to Lost & Found at least twice a week to collect a bagful of bottles/lunch boxes/PE kit, & her brother is even worse...).

But actual detention for 4yos is bonkers.

This water bottles for all kids in school class room is a ridiculous idea. Children can have a drink at break/lunch. "De-hydrated" ffs.
