I've booked a hotel room in America and have been asked to email a copy of my passport image and also picture of Front and back of my credit card. Apparently this is to verify my identity

I certainly wouldn't - can't you give them the information over the phone?

okwhatever · 15/03/2018 11:36

Sorry, posted too soon....
Apparently this is for fraud prevention and to verify my identity.
I'm really not happy to email this info.
Any thoughts?
TIA

I was asked to email my passport when I booked accommodation in the states, i wouldn't be happy about sending a copy of my credit card though

okwhatever · 15/03/2018 11:38

@Deadwood58 They have my CC details from when I made the booking online but got in touch and asked for this info by email!!!
I've never been asked for this before!
Just seems strange to want my passport and cc pics?

Passport fine, credit card, no way.

TenancyTroublesAgain · 15/03/2018 11:40

Don't do it! They're stupid for even asking!

Trinity66 · 15/03/2018 11:41

okwhatever Yeah i'd tell them no and look elsewhere if they refuse your booking without the CC picture tbh

bumblingbovine49 · 15/03/2018 11:42

cover the cvc number at the back and cover the middle of the long number at the front with a piece of paper before you photo/scan it

That way you can send it and give them the missing details over the phone

UpstartCrow · 15/03/2018 11:42

Phone your credit card company and give them a heads up.

okwhatever · 15/03/2018 11:42

Thanks! I'm just a bit worried as it's non refundable rate. If I refuse I might lose my money. 😫
I'm going to get in touch and find out.
Nowhere in the UK would ask for this sort of info by email surely?

okwhatever · 15/03/2018 11:44

@UpstartCrow good idea. I'll call them and see what they advise. 👍🏻

I've had to do this a few times and never had a problem afterwards.

QueenOfAccidentalDeathStares · 15/03/2018 12:01

copy of passport - yes
credit card number + sort code (i.e. front) - yes
back of credit card??? no way.

AgathaF · 15/03/2018 12:02

What UpstartCrow said. Phone your credit card company.
