How much did your wedding cost?

Average wedding is around the £27k mark in the U.K. I can't think of a wedding I've attended or known of that could of cost this much? no judgement if people do pay this amount, but it seems pretty crazy! I can't believe that it is the average, unless most are paying £5k and the £1,000,000 do's are throwing off the averages?!

Just over £12k a few months ago, including honeymoon (£4k), rings, make up, hair - everything.

nowater34 · 13/03/2018 17:49

Just wedding not rings or honeymoon 30k 6 yrs ago. it’s the food & drink that’s expensive. I have a big family so no choice.

nowater34 · 13/03/2018 17:55

And I did manage to “save” money as I had family to help with invites, favours, photos, bm dresses, pick n mix etc. I did splurge on band (2k) & photo booth. Flowers were 3k, videographer (1.8/2k), dress & accessories (4k). It was an amazing party though!

Yorkshirebetty · 13/03/2018 19:00

Mine cost just the registry office fee. Two witnesses, wore an outfit I already had. No party. That was 33 years ago! We count our blessings that we are still happy!!

curiousitykilledthekitkat · 13/03/2018 19:03

Under £1000 but we didn't have the full wedding..

We did registry office with our Mums and then had the reception at my mums house, which was perfect for us as we're not big on being center of attention!

My sisters was 25k and my cousins was 3k!

HJ40 · 13/03/2018 19:13

About £24k two years ago for 90 people, excluding my dress which my mum insisted on paying for from her own savings and wanting it to be separate from what my parents jointly contributed (it was her thing). This included £2k to use a very specific church for the service.

I was horrified when we added up the budget, but we were fortunate to have contributions from both parents, plus DH and I had both been working for full time for 13 years each when we married, so had healthy savings and were happy to spend on it. We weren't frivolous with any individual item, but were fortunate to be able to do everything we wanted to.

We had the most wonderful day and now some close relatives are no longer with us, I'm so glad we did it. I know we could have done so many other things with that money, but the memories are priceless.

Yerroblemom1923 · 13/03/2018 19:18

£10,000 ten years ago. My dress was a bargain as it was in the sale. The cost of venue and catering is what bumps up the cost.

JobHunting4 · 13/03/2018 19:22

£10,000 ish last year. No honeymoon.

AnneElliott · 13/03/2018 19:22

Ours was £6k back in 2000.

parttimebarstaff · 13/03/2018 19:29

We will spend just under £5000 all in - registry office, second hand dress, 20 guests, dinner at a posh country house and 4 day honeymoon in Santorini. No cars, flowers or bridal party. I can not wait 👰🏼

Tailfeather · 13/03/2018 19:31

£55,000 and I don't feel it was OTT! As in the day felt v relaxed, not that I don't think that's a ridiculous amount of money. Paid for by a family member. They started by saying they wanted to pay for our wedding, and that was the offer. If it had been an offer of paying for a wedding or giving us x amount of cash to either spend on a wedding or on a house deposit then we wouldn't have spent anywhere near that.

Shalva1970 · 13/03/2018 19:36

40k
Including honeymoon
500guests over 2 days.

GoJohnnyGoGoGoGo · 13/03/2018 19:38

About 14k in 2008

sonithewoni · 13/03/2018 19:40

Getting married in September and it's not coming in over £1500. I listened to what all our friends and family said mattered most and they said a quick ceremony, no speeches and a decent party :-) Happy to oblige

Tobebythesea · 13/03/2018 19:44

£37k with honeymoon. Things don’t look like much but cost a lot and add up. Band? £1.5k. Room hire for 2 hours £1.5k, photographer £1.8k etc. If I had my time again I would spend a lot less. It’s one day.

LoveInTokyo · 13/03/2018 19:50

Ours is this year and will probably cost 25,000 euro once everything is added together. 120 guests and a free bar. (We’re in France so guests paying for their own drinks would be completely unacceptable.)

minipie · 13/03/2018 19:52

Around £23k in 2009. Central london venue, lots of nice food and unlimited free bar. The rest was all fairly cheap but the food and drink cost a bomb.

Most of the weddings I've been to have cost at least the same, with a few exceptions. The exceptions were either very short (eg 3pm-6pm only) or self catered. Or abroad, but then that costs more for guests.

Tink2007 · 13/03/2018 19:55

£3500 in 2007 for a church wedding, horse and carriage, princess style wedding dress, veil, shoes, tiara, groom and best man suits, bridesmaid dress, flowers and buttons holes, reception, rings and decorations for reception.

Tink2007 · 13/03/2018 19:56

And the photographer for just the church.

aspoonfulofyourownmedicine · 13/03/2018 19:56

£1.5k in 2007, including my dress, 4 x bridesmaids, 1 x flowergirl, church, venue, catering, wedding rings, hair and makeup ....

We paid £1k the following year to go abroad for a belated honeymoon

SpadesOfGlory · 13/03/2018 19:57

I've never actually counted it up, but the venue was about £5k so with everything else it probably came to 10k or so. Then honeymoon was another £5k but was gifted to us.

PurpleRobe · 13/03/2018 20:00

About £22,000 in 2009.

100 guests day time.
150 evening guests.

That was about 1 year's wages for one of us at that time (so about half our annual income as we were on similar wages )

Many said it was the best wedding they'd been to etc and still talk about it now and I wouldn't change it at all

but now I'm thinking about retirement .. I think that money could have knocked a year or two off my work life :/

nuggles · 13/03/2018 20:01

Just under 80k in 2012.

Huge big fat Indian wedding with 500 guests!

joystir59 · 13/03/2018 20:02

£1.5k including 5 day honeymoon in Bournemouth. Got married Ealing Register Office, wedding breakfast in O'Neil's. It was the best day of my life.

Indigo89 · 13/03/2018 20:12

14k last year including 2 weeks honeymoon in Africa. The budget was 12k but we splurged on the honeymoon.
