How much did your wedding cost?

Average wedding is around the £27k mark in the U.K. I can't think of a wedding I've attended or known of that could of cost this much? no judgement if people do pay this amount, but it seems pretty crazy! I can't believe that it is the average, unless most are paying £5k and the £1,000,000 do's are throwing off the averages?!

£1K-£2K in 1998

hibbledibble · 13/03/2018 21:01

6k

I don't see the need to spend a fortune on a wedding. Personally I couldn't care less whether a wedding is held in a community hall or a posh hotel. In my experience the cheaper weddings are more personal and fun!

TheFlis12345 · 13/03/2018 21:02

Depends what you're including, roughly £20k last year but that excludes hen, stag and honeymoon.

LolitaLempicka · 13/03/2018 21:03

$99 special. Including the limo, flowers, photos and chapel of lurrrrve. Money well spent!

AthenaAshton · 13/03/2018 21:04

Cost of the register office (£50, I think). That was all.

lurkymclurkerson · 13/03/2018 21:05

Roughly £12k in November last year in total (including dress, venue, food, the whole shebang)

stoplickingthetelly · 13/03/2018 21:05

About 12-13K (not including engagement ring or honeymoon) back in 2009. The venue we had is now much more expensive so think people who use it could easily spend 20K now.

honeyharris · 13/03/2018 21:09

About £7500 nearly 5 years ago for everything including honeymoon. I was really happy with my day and didn't feel we'd scrimped on anything

pandarific · 13/03/2018 21:15

£3000 in 2009 we did it twice once in London and here in north wales we had 20 guests in London and 70 in Wales.Registy office in London and on a farm here. I’m still waiting for my honeymoon!

SomewhereontheM6 · 13/03/2018 21:33

Blaablaa oh how dreadful. I feel bad for that poor couple. All that planning and to know it was a bit of a shambles.

PeonyTruffle · 13/03/2018 21:34

£12k in 2016

Off season so managed to have everything we wanted and some at reduced rates. Yes it was a lot of money but we had the best bloody day ever.

Yacka · 13/03/2018 21:39

2,500 approx. Had a lovely meal for 30 (which they all payed 20£ per head themselves)
Walking distance from registry office to meal. Provided taxis from the restaurant we had hired to the evening club.
Was a local Labour club so drink were so look cheap. ( My friend had too much and there holiday the next day down south had to be delayed till sober 😉)
I did all invited thru eBay and made myself.
Even the balloons were done and organised the day before by me and friends.
Didn't much care for it to be perfect. We had a nearly 3 year old and a 18 week old so we just wanted a fun union.
The only issue we had was first dance.
We just made it up. And as I already took off my shoes it was not as romantic and a moment as I had hoped for.
But as my bridesmaids gave me tequila I can't have danced better.........
But I all honesty do what you can afford with out regret don't make yourself in debt for a day. But have a great time

Yacka · 13/03/2018 21:42

And incase people flame me
Yes all my close friends paid for there own meal.
The venue did a set menu and I said to my friends if they wanted to attend could they pay for this. I asked for no presents. They all agreed most weddings they would pay 150+ just to attend so mins was so fun.

LisaSimpsonsbff · 13/03/2018 21:44

If people paid for their own food - and, by sound of it, drink - what did you spend £2500 on?

VanGoghsLeftEar · 13/03/2018 21:50

All in, about one and a half grand. We wanted to get married, not kid ourselves we were royalty for a day. We are too common for that!!! Grin I wore a £50 white suit, he wore a £70 suit, we had a local pub for the reception, the registry office did the deed, we got around by public transport. I think the biggest expense was the food for 50 people and the disco.

WomanEmpire · 13/03/2018 22:01

A friend of mine recently travelled to her cousins overseas wedding. Flight return was £500, it was a dry wedding and there was only a cheeseboard and grapes but apparently the wedding dress was couture.

She wasn't very happy!

2014 and £19500 approx. 180 day guests and about 300 at night (2 huge families!) the cathedral was about £2k, videography and photography came to about the same.. we spent the biggest budget on food, drink and entertainment. We had family come from all over the world so we made the most of it, party the night before and a big brunch the day after so we got as much time with them as possible. We planned our wedding in 10 months and our parents both contributed.

OneMoreFrog · 13/03/2018 22:04

£1000

MouseholeCat · 13/03/2018 22:31

£30 for the wedding at the town hall, + £10 for the taxi there for my, DH, and my brother and sister who were witnesses.

My dad paid for our dinner after which was approx. £150.

Circumstances meant we did it that way, but it suited us well. My only wish is that both sets of our parents could have been there. We'll do a big family vow renewal one day when we're a bit more flush!

CaviarAndCigarettes · 13/03/2018 22:53

About £7500. Venue for 150 was around £6000. I bought my dress second hand, wedding rings were second hand, bridesmaid dresses were second hand, we made invitations etc.
We wanted to include the whole family and do a three course meal but it was a paid bar and we didn't ask for gifts

thecraftyfox · 13/03/2018 23:06

Under £2.5k for us including wedding rings which we had made for us but are very plain bands. Only 35 guests and a champagne afternoon tea plus drinks at the bar on arrival. Also included a night in the honeymoon suite for us.

Went to a family wedding which was around £60k for 150 people and had the additional costs of kosher catering. Am also sitting out an upcoming very fancy wedding as despite wedding costing upwards of £50k children aren't invited due to the costband my youngest will only be 3 months old and breastfed.

Crunkly · 14/03/2018 07:09

Mine was probably about £9000 in 2012. Although we could’ve cut back more and chosen a cheaper venue and I would’ve been very happy with a less formal reception my husband and parents had a more traditional thing in mind. It was a lovely exclusive use venue though. We were fortunate that some people helped out by contributing particular parts of the day as presents - my uncle drove us in his vintage car, my aunt did the flowers, my other aunt did the favours, my gran did the cake, my parents paid for the reception.
I agree I’ve never been to a wedding that I would think cost £27k, well actually I’ve probably been to 1 but it was way OTT

DollyLlama · 14/03/2018 07:31

I'm planning mine now and it looks like it will be around 5k all said and done which seems utter madness considering we're eloping to Gretna Green and having a small reception a month later and our outfits aren't expensive! I just don't know where the money has gone Confused
