How much did your wedding cost?

Average wedding is around the £27k mark in the U.K. I can't think of a wedding I've attended or known of that could of cost this much? no judgement if people do pay this amount, but it seems pretty crazy! I can't believe that it is the average, unless most are paying £5k and the £1,000,000 do's are throwing off the averages?!

Mine cost £200!! but I did go to one that cost £100,000 plus and it was one of the worst weddings I've ever been to

20 grand roughly

cocopops88 · 13/03/2018 20:27

We got married in 2014 and spent about 4k, beautiful marquee in a walled garden, barbecue lunch for 60, and hogroast and jacket potatoes for 110 in the evening. We did our own flowers, bought wine from France, hired 2 chefs to cook on the day, and did all the salads and desserts ourselves the day before.

India1819 · 13/03/2018 20:29

24,000 in 2016. Another £5.5k for the honeymoon and £3k spends. Worth every penny

WhyteKnyght · 13/03/2018 20:31

Why was the £10000 wedding so bad, Blaablaablaa?!

WhyteKnyght · 13/03/2018 20:32

£100000, even. A £10K wedding wouldn't be as Shock

Justwaitingforaline · 13/03/2018 20:33

Last year, 12k

C0untDucku1a · 13/03/2018 20:34

£18k in 2008

PoppyCherry · 13/03/2018 20:36

Under £1k

DH’s first wedding cost £80k

Do we win a prize?

SachaStark · 13/03/2018 20:37

Mine was about £6-7k last year.

Local church wedding and reception was in a barn. Would've been less in terms of overall cost, but I have a big family, and we wanted loads of friends there, so we spent more for bigger numbers.

We saved by not having a photographer, making decorations ourselves, doing own flowers from the supermarket, and so on. My dress was half-off on the sale rail. Our priority was to have a MASSIVE PARTY, so most of the £6k went on booze and food!

And it was a fucking great party!

BlondeB83 · 13/03/2018 20:37

Around £23k including the honeymoon which was around £7k.

BangingOn · 13/03/2018 20:37

We spent about £25k including honeymoon 10 years ago.

I can't think of a wedding I've attended or known of that could of cost this much?
That made me wonder about how much our guests would have thought our wedding cost. A lot of the budget went on the honeymoon, dress, videographer (cinefilm, amazing) and rings which the guests wouldn’t have necessarily realised the cost of, but there was a lot of good food and drink and extras like a caricaturist which they would have.

Not that I want people to realise how much we spent, but OP could have been at our wedding and still made that comment.

pumpkinpieinmyeye · 13/03/2018 20:39

£12k last year. We originally planned for under £20k but then decided to treat our guests and paid all drinks and accomodations so they only had to get themselves there (not very far)

pumpkinpieinmyeye · 13/03/2018 20:39

Under £10k, not 20

labcat · 13/03/2018 20:41

Spent £45k. We have the most beautiful photos and memories of the most beautiful day of my life.

No regrets spending the money.

I'm a firm believer of a free bar and guests not paying a penny whilst they are at a celebration that I invited them too. I find a paid bar very rude.

CandyMelts · 13/03/2018 20:41

£30k including honeymoon and all rings. Nothing luxurious but had everything we wanted, it's pretty scary how much it all costs.

Bought a house later the same year so didn't leave ourselves without savings

TabbyMumz · 13/03/2018 20:42

£800. That included the honeymoon.

daydream86 · 13/03/2018 20:44

weddings in 2 weeks, coming in around £14k, not the fanciest do, but money is mainly going on keeping our guests well fed and watered and entertained with a good band, photographer has been a splurge too. sample sale wedding dress (fabulous!) fairly modest UK honeymoon.. Eeeeeeee! I can’t bloody Grinwait!!!

Pinkprincess1978 · 13/03/2018 20:45

About £4000 including honeymoon. We did it on a budget - biggest expense was the food - buffets was £1300.

Delatron · 13/03/2018 20:47

About 40k.
It does all add up!
For 125 guests:
Venue 8k
Dress 2k
Food 10k (was delicious and this was were we wanted money to go)
Free bar (4K). Good found and plenty of free drinks were important.
Hotels for wedding party 2k
Band 1.5k
Photographer 1k (this seemed quite cheap for London)
Transport 1k
Decor 2k ( we had to hire lots in)
Bridesmaids etc 1k
Honeymoon 7k.
And lots more I can't remember.
I absolutely loved it. Parents contributed and I wouldn't change a thing. I was aiming for 20k though!

Blaablaablaa · 13/03/2018 20:47

On paper it should have been fabulous - gorgeous country house, spa, beautiful grounds etc but everything as done for show - they wanted everyone to know how wealthy they were but most of it was really cringy. the bits that ruined it for me were:

Free bar - should have been amazing but half the guests got so drunk they were throwing up or asleep by mid afternoon

The bridal party didn't walk into the wedding party they entered dancing to some semi choreographed routine but half the bridal party looked mortified! My sister was a bridesmaid and she only found out about this bit 30 mins before it happened! I really felt for her.

They had a singer on during the meal who regularly picked on guests to join in the singing even though they were eating or clearly not up for it!

Half the guests didn't make the evening bit as they'd drunk too much. A few people fell asleep during the wedding breakfast

They hired a well known DJ who played obscure dance music - it was the only wedding I've ever been to where the dance floor was empty all night.

The saddest thing was the bride and groom looked thoroughly miserable the whole day

YearOfYouRemember · 13/03/2018 20:51

£5k ish in 1999 and that included honeymoon. Didn't have an evening do and the flowers, reception, open bar and church bells were paid for by PIL. My outfit was the most expensive part of the day.

BillyAndTheSillies · 13/03/2018 20:52

Ours was about 25k in 2014. But that included full board accommodation for 70 guests abroad. If we'd have suggested guests paid for their rooms at the suggested rate, we'd have actually been in profit.

Rachyhayes · 13/03/2018 20:53

We managed about 2.5k including everything dress was from Debenhams rings and flowers were Ebay lovely hunting lodge owned by the council was £360 for ceremony and bowling club for the evening with a buffet and dj and 5days in Amsterdam as a honeymoon that was 2011
