I'm sorry I feel like a moan today. I am so sick of hearing people referring to clothes as PIECES! They do it with jewellery as well. It's not 'trousers' or 'dresses' or 'cardigans' it's PIECES!! Does anyone else hate this???

Am probably gonna get flamed but I hate it when people call 'fabric ' 'material '. For example if I make a dress I by some fabric. The material that fabric is made from is cotton. I did do dress making at college though so think it's because I'm used to the proper term. Blush flame away!! ConfusedGrinGrin

bluemoonchances · 13/03/2018 18:07

I buy fabric not by! Wink

Battleax · 13/03/2018 18:08

How to you feel about “stuff” blue?

bluemoonchances · 13/03/2018 18:17

More than happy with Stuff! Grin

PortiaCastis · 13/03/2018 18:22

My Gran used to say a pair of brassieres because there were two cups, I remember her saying to me that I needed a pair. Confused

How can a skirt be a piece, it is not it's an item of clothing.

Halsall · 13/03/2018 18:32

Don’t forget that when you want to put your pre-loved artisanal trouser away in storage, you're archiving it.

I thank you.

TabbyMumz · 13/03/2018 18:51

Also seems to be a trend to call make up "products", and material is now called "fabric"?

TabbyMumz · 13/03/2018 18:55

I also cringe when people say "thankyou sooooooo much". It sounds so fake. Whatever happened to "thanks very much"?

MrsMoastyToasty · 13/03/2018 18:56

Don't forget to "work the look" this season in your statement pieces.

GoldenHefalump · 13/03/2018 18:58

Yanbu.

I also hate it when upcyclers use the same 'This piece is painted in Annie Sloan eggshell white...'

Fuck off. Painting a ratty side table white doesn't make it a work of bloody art Hmm

FizzyCherry · 13/03/2018 20:32

Tabby I HATE “products”. My hairdresser said “Do you want some product in your hair?”
I said “Do you mean wax?” Turns out she did....

And I agree, “property” is utter wank.
“Do you like the property?”
“No, I like the house/flat.”

Steaksauce · 13/03/2018 20:51

"We've enhanced this living space by adding some exotic window treatments"

So you've put some curtains up in the lounge ten?

I hate and loathe it when people say "space" and "window treatments"

bertsdinner · 13/03/2018 20:58

Will have to curate my space so I can create a capsule wardrobe for the new season that will be "bang on trend".
I'll start by sourcing some timeless classics.

doctorcuntybollocks · 13/03/2018 20:58

Codpieces are pieces.

Argh duckfart I hope I never hear that.

If anybody refers to something called a "bake" I will fully expect it to have been procured from the nearest Greggs and filled with steak or baked beans.

LimonViola · 13/03/2018 21:23

FizzyCherry I hate 'product' too, so wanky!

I don't mind 'property' though, it seems it has its uses in that or refers to either a house, a flat, a cottage, whatever. It just means potential home. Probably just easier than designating the specific type of building.

SharonBottsPoundOfGrapes · 13/03/2018 22:10

I hate websites that tell you to "Shop The Look". Oh and its not Oxblood. Its fucking burgundy.

AaarmadillosWhy · 13/03/2018 22:43

On a similar theme, can't bear anyone referring to newspaper articles or other written articles as pieces.Excusable for actual journalists but not for other pretentious types .

"here's a link to my piece on Bitcoin.'

nope

PencilledIn · 13/03/2018 22:46

I agree ! it sounds so ridiculous.

Sunnysidegold · 13/03/2018 22:53

I cannot stand "bang on trend". I now find I can't ignore it in a magazine and then I start noticing it everywhere.

AngeloMysterioso · 13/03/2018 23:13

I worked for a mortgage brokers once and a rep from one of the banks we worked with referred to the different types of mortgages they offer as “a suite of products” in a meeting.

I nearly spat my coffee out.

AngeloMysterioso · 13/03/2018 23:20

Oh and another one- referring to clothes as “separates”

Dandellion · 14/03/2018 09:14

My Aunty trained as a seamstress in a posh couture house (might have been Norman Hartnell) in London and material was definitely called fabric way back then.

I wonder if the current fashion lingo has just formed as a handy shorthand which does often happen when constantly discussing a specific subject.

Talith · 14/03/2018 10:11

I still remember Rylan Clark on Room 101 taking the piss out of "a red lip and a high pony"
