WingsOnMyBoots · 13/03/2018 10:05

I'm sorry I feel like a moan today. I am so sick of hearing people referring to clothes as PIECES! They do it with jewellery as well. It's not 'trousers' or 'dresses' or 'cardigans' it's PIECES!! Does anyone else hate this???

And sourced, don't you mean bought?

I sourced this piece from a vibrant space, translation, I bought this jumper from Primark.

VaguelyAware · 13/03/2018 10:42

Ugh yes agree. If I see this on articles, videos etc, it's most likely to make me switch to something else. Pretentious arsery.

Roussette · 13/03/2018 10:43

So agree with you OP.

I have another one if I can bear to type it because it gives me the rage so much, I could throw something.

Brace yourselves...

A 'pop' of colour.

There. I've said it. Arghhhhh. Everyone is saying this. Make up artists when showing lipsticks, eyeshadows. Accessories are a 'pop' of colour, as is a scarf, shoes ... anything

I HATE IT

Roussette · 13/03/2018 10:44

Oh god, sorry likeacrow I missed your post. You've said this!

I had a red mist come down as I thought about it and missed it!

another20 · 13/03/2018 10:47

Its all very QVC .... I love watching it to see how they spew out a lexicon of shite vocab for 30 mins talking about a garment.....

ggirl · 13/03/2018 10:51

totally agree
also I have this PIECE in another COLOURWAY .....wtf.? .oh you mean you have that top in another colour

BlueTongueSkink · 13/03/2018 10:52

I am so with you likeacrow and Roussette. Bloody hate "pop of colour"

BezzaMezza · 13/03/2018 10:56

"Process" seems to be everywhere on mumsnet recently. "I just need to process this." But that's nothing to do with style and beauty and is probably just me. Space instead of place is another one

Dahlietta · 13/03/2018 10:59

(I'm sure I've said this before recently) I feel the same about people who have a 'property' in Somerset - you mean a house - or a 'property' in London - you mean a flat.

Andthatsthat · 13/03/2018 10:59

Yes yes yes to this!! Pieces, product, bits, singular (red lip) hate it all! Thought I was alone as everyone seems to be saying these god awful things Confused

Andthatsthat · 13/03/2018 11:03

Just read back...pop of colour!!! What wank. And when mortgages/insurance/bank accounts etc are referred to as a ‘product’ noooooo, they aren’t a product, they just are what they are, grr!!

Uniglo18 · 13/03/2018 11:03

I have found my people! Yay! Dd goes to a school in a naice area we're not posh and that's all I hear from the mums in the playground. A load of pretentious shite!

drivingmebananas · 13/03/2018 11:07

I also hate all this

I've seen on a menu the words 'curated' and heard tattoos described as a 'piece' FUCK OFF

Luckyme2 · 13/03/2018 11:07

Dahlietta you've read my mind! Property?! You mean house. Or flat. Or bungalow....

upsideup · 13/03/2018 11:09

Do you all get annoyed when chefs or dancers use specific terms or phrases related to cooking or dancing? Is that 'pretentious' and 'wanky' too?

PistFump · 13/03/2018 11:16

@upsideup - if you mean things like 'foraged' 'toothsome' and 'deconstructed' - then absolutely yes.

PistFump · 13/03/2018 11:17

And why is every fucking loaf of bread I pick up in the high street bakery 'artisan'.... it's just bread!

Andthatsthat · 13/03/2018 11:17

Ok, possibly this could be an unpopular one amongst mums but here goes.....I can’t stand the term ‘baby wearing’ you are merely ‘using a sling/carrier’ surely?

CaptainCardamom · 13/03/2018 11:22

Ooh
Now I never say "a pink lip" or "a statement trouser" but I really don't mind "a pop of colour"! It's expressive, it gets across that it's a burst of bright colour in one place. I like it!

pop of colour
pop of colour
pop of colour

CaptainCardamom · 13/03/2018 11:24

Although I do think it sounds odd when they talk about a colour etc "making your eyes pop". That doesn't sound like a good thing.

I hate "toothsome", and I never really understand what it means but it just sounds as if you're eating something full of teeth.

JaneJeffer · 13/03/2018 11:30

Yes to chefs with their foam and jus, etc. Nonsense.

PasDeDeux · 13/03/2018 11:34

I think it makes sense when referring to designer items as I guess they are investment 'pieces'. A Primark tshirt has no place being referred to as a 'piece'! Also came here to say along with several others that I LOATHE "pop of colour". Makes me want to wear black forever.

LimonViola · 13/03/2018 11:39

YANBU. Insufferably pretentious and always strikes me as a way for the fashion industry to try and add gravitas to what is essentially a fairly superficial thing.

'A red lip' 'a grey trouser' urgh fuck right off.

Roussette · 13/03/2018 11:56

You must watch this. A deconstructed trifle that has been renamed 'insignificant summer pudding' because the girl doing it doesn't like trifle.

It went wrong big time GrinGrin. My DD and I nearly wet ourselves watching this at the time. That'll teach yer for being wanky! The bit at the end where she pulls the trolley out behind her has us PMSL Grin

theWarOnPeace · 13/03/2018 12:05

I’m finding this thread very soothing.... ahhh get all the word rage out Brew
