Oh, I must read that thread from Walter Shaub, I follow him on Twitter, he talks sense, Ouais

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 17/03/2018 07:12

Facebook and Cambridge Analytica is an important story that is bound to get lost in the maelstrom but it’s definitely a Big Deal that Facebook have terminated ties with CA, albeit far too late. Story upthread somewhere (and elsewhere!)

OuaisMaisBon · 17/03/2018 07:15

Let's hope, indeed, Roussette!

I also enjoyed Bradley Whitford (Josh Lyman in "The West Wing", which I still can't watch because it's too poignant)'s answer to POTUS's tweet about McCabe: "YOU MUST BE OUT OF YOUR GOURD."

OuaisMaisBon · 17/03/2018 07:19

Pain, presumably the FB and Cambridge Analytica story also affects the mess that is Brexit, so may not be altogether lost today.

boatyardblues · 17/03/2018 07:19

Fucking hell! The wheels are really coming off Trumps clown car. How much longer can this administration carry on?

OuaisMaisBon · 17/03/2018 07:23

Oh, and I forgot this earlier:

Americans deserve to know why the Office of the Inspector General expedited the discipline against McCabe in a way that deviated dramatically from prior norms while taking no action with respect to more egregious (indeed illegal) pro-Trump actions within the FBI pre-election.

Is Huckabee mirroring Trump with that tweet? The piss poor tweets, slandering, bullying, not funny slurs are just appalling. Next week was going to be when Melania did something on cyber bullying, that will be an interesting exercise...

And more from Walter Shaub...

Under circumstances suggesting a partisan vendetta, the AG strips an FBI leader of a big chunk of his pension based on an allegation that he may have done what Sarah Sanders does everyday at work, while Gen. Flynn keeps his pension after admitting to committing crimes in office.

OuaisMaisBon · 17/03/2018 07:26

boatyardblues - my worry is, how many times have we said this before, and nothing happened but things got worse? People seem to be pinning their hopes on the 60 Minutes interview with Stormy Daniels, though if it is that important, I can't think why CBS aren't airing it asap, instead of waiting till March 25th? It would be horrifyingly ironic if he actually got impeached for failing to cover his tracks on his infidelity.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 17/03/2018 07:28

I hope so ouais!

Sessions is meant to be recused, is he not? He really is terrible and thrown his department/integrity (or any pretence of) under the trump bus. I suspect he will be gone soon too

Roussette · 17/03/2018 07:31

MiniMammoth your post of 06.41, I'd like the answer to that too. I don't really understand it. When they have confirmation hearings for the likes of Betsy DeVos and others, why don't his cronies have to be confirmed or interviewed for suitability?

On a similar matter...in the name of all that is holy, how the hell can Ivanka do this? The world's gone mad

Again, we're learning this stuff from foreign press: Ivanka, who doesn't have full security clearance, will stand in for Tillerson's role for South Korea Foreign Minister Kang's visit.

Roussette · 17/03/2018 07:35

Bloody 'ell....

www.thedailybeast.com/john-kelly-rex-tillerson-was-on-the-toilet-when-i-told-him-hed-be-getting-fired

How low can they sink?

Roussette · 17/03/2018 07:37

I agree... so many seem to be pinning their hopes on Stormy interview. Apparently there are another 6 or more women who claim they have signed NDAs. The trouble is, infidelity doesn't seem to sway his fanbase even the evangelicals. Far worse is happening inside the WH.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 17/03/2018 07:38

My understanding, which I wouldn’t give a particularly high confidence level, is that the cabinet positions do need to be confirmed. Betsy Devos had to go through a confirmation hearing, Haspel will need to be, Tillerson was etc.

Tonight’s cruel and unwarranted firing of #AndrewMcCabe will boomerang against its evil architects. His statement tonight is dynamite. Even if the IG’s report was right, McCabe’s firing was part of Trump’s effort to undermine Mueller and thereby obstruct justice.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 17/03/2018 07:42

Haberman a few days ago said that reporting was unreliable re: firings because trump was revelling in confounding expectations and loved causing chaos in reporting and being in control of the news cycles and doing the opposite of what people thought he would.

A few news outlets have now reported similar things. I hate that we’re forced into this role by him but surely these thing’s can take go unremarked upon?

OuaisMaisBon · 17/03/2018 07:43

Roussette, I cannot mention what I think of his Evangelical "Christian" fanbase as the air round this thread would turn blue and I would probably fall off my perch in rage. Angry

Roussette · 17/03/2018 07:53

On a totally shallow note (apologies everyone!) don't you think McCabe looks exactly like you imagine the head of the FBI would be. One look from him and I'd be blabbing Grin

Even if you subpoena us, we won't turn up on the Trump threads
Roussette · 17/03/2018 07:55

Pain I remember an interview with Trump where he actually said he liked causing chaos and playing people off against each other and it made his job fun... or words to that effect. Shock And he is in this position... very scary

boatyardblues · 17/03/2018 07:55

Ouais I know, I know, but we have to reach a tipping point soon. There’s a sense of impending chaos where this level of churn cannot be sustained without collapsing in on itself. That said, this whole mess has exposed how inneffective the checks & balances are when someone really sets out to cause mischief. Sad

Re Stormy Daniels:

Daniels' lawyer says some alleged incidents took place during Trump presidency

amp.cnn.com/cnn/2018/03/16/politics/stormy-daniels-trump-allegations-cnntv/index.html

This bit might be what is most problematic for trump

"Is there anything in the litany of accusations you would call them facts that surround this case that happened while Donald Trump was President?" CNN's Jake Tapper asked Michael Avenatti, Daniels' lawyer, during an interview Friday.

"Yes," Avenatti replied.

When asked by Tapper if he could elaborate, Avenatti gave a simple "no."

Avenatti had claimed earlier Friday in an interview with CNN's Chris Cuomo that Daniels was "physically threatened to stay silent about what she knew about Donald Trump."

He declined to provide further details about who made the threat during that interview, including whether or not it was Trump or someone associated with him.

[...]Avenatti reiterated to Tapper Friday that the public will have more details from Daniels' upcoming interview on CBS's "60 Minutes," which is slated to air later this month.

"I think that when the American people hear from my client who will provide details very specific details related to this threat they will conclude, as I have, that this was not a random threat by some wing nut ... out of the blue," he told Tapper.

And

Kyle Griffin
@kylegriffin1
"Trump is moving his fight to keep Stormy Daniels silent about their alleged affair to federal court — and she’s now threatened with $20 million in damages if she doesn’t keep her mouth shut."

And

The Hoarse Whisperer
@HoarseWisperer
The irony of the Stormy Daniels story:

As a porn star, Daniels is utterly impervious to the usual shaming sexual assault victims are often subjected to...

In a way, a porn star is the perfect adversary for Trump. He’s got no way to silence her. Nothing to hold over her

TheClaws · 17/03/2018 07:58

Breitbart is licking all of the latest firings up, particularly McCabe’s. They don’t appear to see their freedoms being gradually worn away and their institutions -that defend their safety and freedoms - being impugned and gutted. They will get an almighty shock there is no FBI to defend them; little government infrastructure and services to assist them; and no sane POTUS to lead them. They live in an odd fantasy world. Sad

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 17/03/2018 08:00

Chaos has been his MO throughout his life. Cause a bigger scandal and everyone forgets about the other one. I suppose this story was specifically reporting on trump watching the news and then doing the opposite of what they were expecting with regards to who was being fired next (it is not for nothing that he was on the apprentice) but you’re right that it is what he hasn’t always done

Roussette · 17/03/2018 08:03

Totally agree Boat and I read that this morning somewhere... checks and balances, what checks and balances? Trump is a loon we know that, but who I hold responsible for this is the GOP, their silence is deafening, they are self serving despicable beings.

I don't think the GOP understands 'country before party'.. to them what is good for the party is good for the country, and vice versa, they think they represent the true America

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 17/03/2018 08:03

All that which you mentioned theclaws
