To ask what I should have done? Menial parking issue, making me cross!!

This is a really small thing that has made my blood boil as the day has gone on. I went shopping this morning, to my nearest large city centre. I parked in an open air car park, which is very close to everything, and works on numberplate recognition.

I took my child and so parked in a parents bay, which were next to the disabled bays. My husband is disabled, so he has a blue badge, but he was not with me (only saying as it's relevant later on).

When I left, a man in a Rolls Royce pulled into the disabled bay next to me. He had another man with him, who was out of the car, helping him pull into the (obviously large) space. There was no disabled badge. When they saw me pull out of my space, they decided to move over one. So, vacating the disabled space, and parking, instead, in a parent space. They were still in view when they were out of the car and crossing the road. Needless to say, they had no child with them.

Firstly, aibu to be really cross about this? My husband has received verbal abuse in the past when he has asked taxis etc to move out of disabled bays so that he can park. More than once, they have refused.

It was also a saving grace for me this morning that I was able to get a parent bay, because my child was asleep when we got back to the car, and I needed my door wide so that I could manoeuvre him out of the pushchair and into his car seat.

Secondly, what could I have done? I am a wimp don't like confrontation, and the car park does not have staff. Aibu to think that drivers should commonly know how to report wrongful parking? I wouldnt, and didn't, have a clue how.

I think you need to get over it and move on, somebody parked in a space you were no longer using, it didn't really affect you so I'm struggling to see why it makes your blood boil.

Rolls Royce car driver couldn’t win ~ if they’d taken two spaces to park their huge vehicle it would have caused problems too. (Never though how difficult it would be to park a monster car.......and sadly will never have that ‘problem’! )

Her blood is boiling because mr idiot was prepared to use a disabled space to park the big car he can’t park.

NotAllTimsWearCapes · 10/03/2018 19:56

So who benefits from you being so cross that your blood was boiling? Who does that help? You? No, because angry is an unpleasant feeling. Does it help the person who could have park led in that space? Don’t think so. Does it help educate the men you saw? Nope.

OP, you have to accept that there are dickheads in this world. Some days, you come across one or two of them. Other days you don't. You won't stop there being dickheads, you won't stop those individuals from being dickheads, so you have to decide not to get stressed about it whilst muttering dickhead repeatedly under breath

Bluelady · 10/03/2018 19:58

Move on, nothing to see here.

NotAllTimsWearCapes · 10/03/2018 20:00

Btw- do you mean trivial?

Whatshallidonowpeople · 10/03/2018 20:03

What do you mean by menial?

chocfireguard · 10/03/2018 20:19

Blue, feel free to move one. It would be kinder to do it silently though.

I was cross because the driver chose a disabled bay and a parent bay because he wanted a big space so that his car didn't get scratched. Not because he was a)disabled, or b)with child.

I wouldn't have had a problem with him parking across 2 normal bays, just for the record.

Thank you eggys. I don't mean trivial, but maybe mundane!
