Toothache (back molar) since last thursday. Went to dentist on Monday, he x rayed, couldn''t see anything wrong with it. Said I clenched my teeth and may have aggravated it, so he filed a bit off.

So now its thursday, its agony, plus the one above it also now hurts so I cannot bite together, drink hot or cold drinks, chew. the whole side of my face is swollen and my glands are rock hard.

I should go back shouldn't I? He actually filled the one that hurts about three weeks ago, because a bit had cracked off (no pain though) but was at pains to say that had nothing to do with the pain I'm in now.

You need to see someone, it sounds like you could have developed an abscess.

Tralalee · 08/03/2018 18:22

could you see an abcess on an xray? He seemed to think there was absolutely nothing wrong with it other than I'd aggravated it by biting too hard

I don't know if you can see it on X-ray, but it is 3 days after that was done, also swollen face/glands points to an abscess. It could be a split tooth, as that gives biting problems and that also increases risk of infection.
You really need to get yourself seen and to be honest I would see a different dentist.

Tralalee · 08/03/2018 18:33

I'm really disappointed in him tbh. He's usually good and he's not cheap! I might try and find someone else. Thank you. I feel really ill actually.

You have my sympathy. Dental pain is horrible.
Try another dentist if you've lost confidence in this one. But do go and see someone soon.

mynameismrbloom · 08/03/2018 18:45

Dental pain is awful. Make an emergency appointment with someone.

Maursh · 08/03/2018 18:47

Yes, you can see it on an x-ray as a shadow.
Assuming he hasn't missed it, I would say a nerve has been exposed due to the filing

Flockoftreegulls · 08/03/2018 18:50

I hate going to the dentist. At mine you go in, get tortured, have to pay for the privilege and then to add insult to injury you have to walk past the Bentleys, maseratis that belong to the dentists.
I'm in the wrong job

Maursh · 08/03/2018 18:51

Just saw that you have swollen face and glands. Any chance that the tooth pain is deferred and the issue is not dental. DO you have a temperature?

Tralalee · 08/03/2018 18:52

I think I am going to take 3 nurofen. 600mg

Washed down with a whisky!!!

Maursh I have had a horrible cough and had a fluey cold a fortnight ago. I did think sinuses bit it's just my teeth that are painful

Sinus problems can cause dental pain. Apparently.

I had terrible pain in my back tooth, convinced I'd need a huge filing. X ray showed nothing.

Idontdowindows · 08/03/2018 19:26

Sinus problems do cause dental pain. If you tap on where the sinus cavities are, do your teeth hurt?

Tralalee · 08/03/2018 19:31

Not as much as when I tap the teeth. Weird that it's 'spread' to the top teeth though, can't imagine I've developed two abscesses!

It's definitely when I bite together. Just accidentally bit together and OMG ow

Maursh · 08/03/2018 19:43

I think that you have a sinus infection - probably bacterial if you have had this for two weeks.
Go see your doctor and let them know dental has been ruled out.
Take 3g Vit C per day +zinc
Also unfiltered ACV + turmeric if you have it!

Try a sinus rinse

Tralalee · 08/03/2018 19:51

OK maybe I'll do that. The dentist didn't seem to be at all worried about an abcess and I couldn't see anything on the x ray, it looked exactly the same as the other side
