Well, since you asked..... it's 19th November!

Richard Herring, twitter.com/Herring1967 is currently providing a sterling public service in letting everyone - particularly anyone feeling a bit 'what-about-the-menz' today - know that there is an International Men's Day too.

In doing so, he's also raising money for Refuge www.justgiving.com/fundraising/November19th?utm_source=twitter

AIBU to encourage you, if you would like to and feel like celebrating International Women's Day by donating to a charity which provides important services for women and children, to donate too?

I live in Manchester and last week Pankhurst House opened its doors to give shelter to the homeless people during the extreme bad weather. They were interviewed on local TV. The previous night they had taken in 12 men and a woman.
They said 5 separate charities had given them financial support.
All of the charities were women's charities.

Well done Richard

CadyHeron · 08/03/2018 12:09

Good point about the threats if a well known woman tweeted back humorously to some of the people out there on Twitter.
There'd be a lot more aggressive, threatening tones in their responses.

CarefullyDrawnMap · 08/03/2018 12:11

If a woman tweeted in the same way she would be getting death and rape threats right back ASAP
Aint that the truth.

Idontbelieveinthemoon · 08/03/2018 12:24

If you scroll down on his twitter feed you can see the exact moments some of the "what about the men" tweeters realised they'd dropped a bollock and deleted their tweets.

I don't care if he's doing it to raise his profile. I don't care if he gains some more fame from this. I don't care if it's just a stunt. It's smarter than most of the bullshit on social media, it's for a great, great cause and it might educate a few stupid people.

ForlornWanderer · 08/03/2018 12:29

I'm pleased he's making money but it's pretty attention seeking

Problem is you don't get anyone's attention by not being attention seeking! Good for him.

carryondoctor · 08/03/2018 12:36

Well - I'm not attention seeking and although I have donated, I have also raised precisely fuck-all for Refuge. So good on him, I say!

muffyduffster · 08/03/2018 12:39

I've donated. Made me chuckle but also shake my head in disbelief.

BertrandRussell · 08/03/2018 12:43

“I did after the thousands of threads yesterday. It's dull”

Do you mean my two threads? Grin

CarefullyDrawnMap · 08/03/2018 12:44

I know. Aside from it being great to raise the money, it is a real eye opener to see just how many men are being dicks about it. It would be hard to get an overview of that otherwise.

Frescoed · 08/03/2018 12:44

Sorry Betrand that I am so late to the party with this - I should have searched more thoroughly before I posted! Grin

Sorry that was a reply to muffyduffster

muffyduffster · 08/03/2018 12:47

@carefullydrawnmap they all think they're so clever and/or original!

CarefullyDrawnMap · 08/03/2018 12:50

muffy I know! Some of them have not only deleted the tweet but also their whole accounts. Cowards happy to spout snide remarks but shrivel up when exposed.

blueyacht · 08/03/2018 12:51

He's been doing this on 8 March for years, fans would be disappointed if he didn't keep up the tradition. Just because the press (and you) have finally noticed it doesn't mean that he's suddenly attention seeking. He also gives away a load of free material and raises a lot of money for Scope every year. What a bastard!

CadyHeron · 08/03/2018 12:52

Deleted their whole accounts? Why?! Grin Haven't seen that but have seen a lot of "this tweet is unavailable" where they've deleted the tweet after he's replied.

MrsDustyBusty · 08/03/2018 12:52

It's really beautiful and encouraging to see the amounts, big and small, that make a difference when added together. Brings a tear to my eye. Genuinely. I love how everyone, doing what they personally can, can effect some good.

liquidrevolution · 08/03/2018 12:56

The more threads the merrier in my book. He's currently tweeting naked in the bath...

No of course not. He's been attention seeking for ages.

BertrandRussell · 08/03/2018 13:03

“Sorry Betrand that I am so late to the party with this - I should have searched more thoroughly before I posted! ”

Heavens, no! The more the merrier! I was just responding to the poster who was finding the thousands of threads soooooooo tedious. Grin

Over £60,000 now........

blueyacht · 08/03/2018 13:05

@BeastInView all comedians seek attention, it's called an audience. If they didn't, they'd be talking to an empty room at gigs. I meant attention-seeking specifically in this instance, but I suspect you knew that already.

BertrandRussell · 08/03/2018 13:05

“No of course not. He's been attention seeking for ages.”

I don’t think being self effacing is a helpful trait in a stand up comedian. Or in a fund raiser.

BeastInView · 08/03/2018 13:09

I meant attention-seeking specifically in this instance

As did I. International Women's Richard Herring Day.

rale124 · 08/03/2018 13:18

'Its international mens day every day'

What a bitter and short sighted statement. A lot of the comments on this thread are just balls of misandry.

Was it international mens day when a 167 blokes were burned alive on Alpha Piper? And why did they so horrifically die? To provide (at inherent risk to themselved) oil to fuel YOUR home and YOUR car or public transport.

Was it international mens day when 255 blokes were killed via gunshots, explosions or hyperthermia so they could liberate the Falklands Islands and its British citizens from foreign aggression?

Was it international men's day when over 140 people (almost exclusively men) died between 2017-2018 at work? And why did they die? To maintain this countries essential infrustructure from defence to power generation to road maintenance for the benefit of ungrateful sods like you. Many on minimium wage.

Yeah maybe there is an International Men's Day but thats not really the point is it? Does it recieve a fraction of the attention or charitable contributions that its female equivalent? Do schools and employers announce it to their members and encourage them to work on male related issues?

But even thats not really the point. The point is society couldn't give a damn that statistically a bloke died this week for its sake, meanwhile a privileged, rich white women not been a director before 40 is some kind of crime against humanity.

Its a point about biases and societal attitudes towards men not some crappy shallow, symbolic day on the calender.

While your preaching to your lattees in your AC controlled offices, spare a thought about the bloke in the overalls with his severed arm running around inside of machinery or the soldiers with their bollocks blown off (literally) so people like you can enjoy their labour.

While feminists would love society to be gender segregated its not. Its class segregated and feminism is just an oppertunistic grab for upper and middle class women to jump on the 'poor me' bandwagon. In a capitalist society...class is and always has been the defining characteristic of privilage.

Want an example? The entire country has just celebrated a bunch of rich women been awarded the right to vote...wheres the special big brother edition for the non land owning men who were only granted the vote a decade before?

Centenary of universal suffrage will not be to 2028.

BeastInView · 08/03/2018 13:21

Its a point about biases and societal attitudes towards men

The poor, poor oppressed men. Why will no one give them a chance?

pumpersnatch · 08/03/2018 13:24

Hmm I kind of agree with @rale124
It IS a class really.
Always has been...
