To not be sure how to take the reaction to Gary Oldman winning the oscar

Based on acting ability alone Gary Oldman won a much overdue Oscar this year however due to accusations of domestic abuse levied against him by an ex wife a lot of the press and internet are crying out it's unfair in light of #metoo.

Now here's the rub. All allegations (that he hit her with a phone in front of the children) were dismissed in court and indeed he was awarded custody of the couple's 2 boys, The eldest of which has written an open letter of support for his father and basically saying his mother has serious issues. Both parties were at the time alcoholics/substance abusers and volatile characters however none of her 3 children want anything to do with her.

However. You read the press or the left wing gossips or general social media chatter and Gary Oldman is evil. No refuting the allegations will ever be enough and so his name is muddied as a result.

AIBU to not like how this has gone in the press?

He's also had to apologise for anti-semitic comments made in the past, so there is obviously another side to him.

Oh I'm not disputing he can be a bit of a cunt (underststment given the comments he's previously made!) However this is all about the DV allegations.

The problem is allegations are just that allegations.

I think If they were dismissed in court and he got custody they were false. No idea about the other stuff
