WIBU to have told him to fuck off?

In the queue at Costa, my (slim, fit, active, healthy - not that it matters!) 3yo DD points to the chocolate biscuit/cake things and asks for one. Before I could say anything the man ahead of us in the queue turns to her and says "no you can't have one, it will make you fat" Shock I was too agog to reply, but would I have been unreasonable to tell him to fuck off and stop passing judgement on what the hell other people do with their bodies?

I am still agog! (And yes she got the biscuit. Even if I had been planning on saying no that made it a yes. Blah blah occasional treat scratch cooking normally blah blah.)

I'd have ordered two!

GrannyGrissle · 07/03/2018 13:20

What a rude busybody. Who does that?!

ThisLittleKitty · 07/03/2018 13:23

my mum started doing this with my kids constantly! When they asked for something sweet (not often and they are not overweight) she would say "no because it will make you fat!"

Shelby2010 · 07/03/2018 13:24

Probably dad answering the question on automatic pilot - not even registering that it wasn’t his child!

fuzzyfozzy · 07/03/2018 13:25

"Listening into other people's conversations and commenting on them, make you rude!"

LeighaJ · 07/03/2018 13:26

I would have sarcastically said "Funny, you don't look like her Dad." then turned around and ordered the cake if you were already feeling inclined to. Grin

acquiesce · 07/03/2018 13:30

Urgh! I refuse to use the f word (fat, I’ve accidentally dropped the other f bomb many a time) around the DC. Why would anyone think it’s acceptable to say that to a 3 year old?? It’s enough of a battle for them to not feel insecure about their body when they are teenagers, never mind fucking toddlers. I’d have happily told him to fuck off then shoved a great big cake into my big FAT mouth to prove a point.

GrandTheftWalrus · 07/03/2018 13:34

My mother said that 21lbs is fine for DD who's 15 months as I don't want "a big fat child"

MrsElvis · 07/03/2018 13:37

Absolutely within your rights to tell him to fuck off!
Telling a child they'll get FAT?! Who does that?!

maddiemookins16mum · 07/03/2018 13:44

I'd have said (in my head) 'only if you eat your Greggs sausage roll and Wotsits first'.

Theresasmayshoes11 · 07/03/2018 13:46

I think I would have just laughed and said ‘what a funny man darling’ and ordered her the cake

OuchBollocks · 07/03/2018 13:48

maddie 😂
Sadly we live in a Greggs-less town.

ive heard comments like this they think theyre funny but its not

just ignore it

GrandTheftWalrus · 07/03/2018 14:06

I genuinely heard someone say to their child (in a buggy so about 2?) That they weren't getting their cake until they finished their sausage roll.

Thistlebelle · 07/03/2018 14:10

Of course “fuck off” would have been inappropriate but you would have been well within your rights to give him a short lesson in manners and boundaries.

teaiseverything · 07/03/2018 14:13

I worked in Costa for many years. I would have made his coffee decaf Wink

AnnieAnoniMouse · 07/03/2018 14:26

teaiseverything. The ultimate punishment 😊

teaiseverything · 07/03/2018 14:33

Muahahaha

OuchBollocks · 07/03/2018 14:33

I hope I never piss off the staff in Costa. Decaf Shock we only went in so I could get a caffeine fix to make up for the lack of sleep caused by 2 snotty coughing children.

The lady in our local costa is delightful, her face when she heard the man was a picture.

Was the man slim op or a bit on the tubby side. That would prob influence my reaction. If he was fat himself I may have made a comment about “it taking more than one chocolate biscuit to get the state he is in”. That is if i could think in time.

Would never normally comment on someone’s weight but he is fair game after a comment like that

OuchBollocks · 07/03/2018 20:39

He was just normal sized I think. I was too busy picking up my jaw from the floor to look properly.

Should have spat at the back of his head.
