AIBU to think Mumsnet need to revise their talk guidelines?

I have reported a number of threads recently and the mumsnet response has been 'we don't allow posts that break our talk guidelines' and nothing has been done when the whole thread has been attacking a particular (and vulnerable) group.

AIBU to question these guidelines and how they are applied?

Are you telling me it is now against the law for a hcp (or any employer is it?) to call a biological male, with a penis, HE?

You were telling me I was wrong to say I could lose my job as it is unlawful. I pointed out you were wrong. I could very easily lose my job for using non-preferred pronouns, gender or names. It is unlawful under the equality act.

As long as you're not an employee or employer of any organisation and discriminating against someone (which you would seen to be if you used non-preferred pronouns during the course of your work) you can use whatever pronoun you like.

It is generally considered transphobic to do that however.

If you are referring to the truly sinister poster who kept calling an ops 4 year old ds a dd and advocated giving hormones to children and taking parents to court I agree with the poster on page 1 about hate filled posters

They were hideous posts and glad they were deleted

If you read the 'first report of the house of commons women and equalities committee'.

P59, 279 : 'Further, under the equality act 2010, all organisations (including employers and public bodies such as the NHS) must respect a trans persons acquired/affirmed gender and any associated change of name. Failure to change pronouns, names and gender markers (including honorifics and pronouns) on records in respects of a trans person would (with a few exceptions i.e criminal records) constitute unlawful direct discrimination under the act'.

It then goes on to say that it is 'assumed that legal gender must be proved in many situations when this is in fact neither required nor appropriate'.

I will say it again.
It is not illegal to use pronouns that are the same as the person's sex.
And stating biological realities is not illegal either.

It is not illegal for me to call a man who says he is a woman, he. It simply is not.

Organisations and employers ARE ordinary people and it is unlawful for anyone in the course of their work/role to misgender.

Because it's considered transphobic.

No it is not unlawful for an individual employee to call a man who says he is a woman, he. It might lead to them being sacked though.
There is a difference between what an organisation as a whole has to do legally, and what an individual has to do legally.
Sorry but you really do not understand the law.

Most women know nothing about it. Although a lot of women I have casually talked to about it are concerned and very young kids being identified as trans.

If you look at my posts crunchy I said I would likely lose my job for misgendering and you said I wouldn't because it isn't illegal. I never said it was. I said I would lose my job as it would be evidence of transphobia.

I then went on to say( as you said I was wrong) that it is unlawful for any public organisation or employer to misgender because it is direct discrimination. Which it is under the equality act.

Anyone can say anything transphobic/racist/disablist on the internet or to their friends so long as it isn't inciting hatred or violence. So yes you can say whatever you like and use whatever pronouns you like.

But it is considered transphobic.

MN does seem very anti transgender people. I sometimes do comment though but I really shouldn't. I don't like the idea of men who identify as women in female changing rooms and female prisons. But really it has no impact on my day to day life at all.
