To feed my placenta to the dogs?

I am due to have a c-section later this week but had pain all day... I've never been in labour before so am joking around with DP that I'm going to have a homebirth if taking a bath doesn't calm these pains down. DP asked what I'd do with the placenta and I said give it to the dogs which he was beyond horrified at Grin

In all seriousness I don't see the issue with feeding the dogs my placenta rather than chucking it away... very nutritious... makes sense to me! I'm sure they'd think it was a tasty treat!

AIBU ?!?!

Yanbu I'm sure they would love it!

Its good to have a bit of fun with it before the new born bit which is quite consuming

Assburgers · 04/03/2018 17:26

...you want them to get a taste for human flesh? 😄 yeah, go for it.

liz70 · 04/03/2018 17:27

Nooooooo. They'll get a taste for your blood if you do that, and tear you limb from limb and devour you like ravenous fiends, their slavering jaws dripping with gobbets of your crimson soaked flesh. Shock

readytopopp · 04/03/2018 17:28

What if I pan fry it first? 🤔

AfterSchoolWorry · 04/03/2018 17:28

No.

AfterSchoolWorry · 04/03/2018 17:29

I mean no, don't do it. Don't give them a taste of human blood.

DramaAlpaca · 04/03/2018 17:29

You could use it as an alternative ingredient for liver cake, your dogs would love it.

IME of home birth the midwives wrap it up & take it away with them.

readytopopp · 04/03/2018 17:30

The midwives feed it to their dogs?!

PsychoPumpkin · 04/03/2018 17:30

I thought ‘why not?’ Until I read the reply about giving your dogs a taste for human flesh! Also, it grew with your baby, seems a bit weird to feed that to your pups

GummyGoddess · 04/03/2018 17:30

The midwives tend to take it away with them, they were a bit taken aback by my request for them to show it to me and explain the structure and show me where baby made his escape from!

readytopopp · 04/03/2018 17:31

Dog1 already has a thing for sanitary towels 🤮 I have to wrap & put outside immediately...

They probably would love it but my initial reaction is eww.

It’s human tissue, I’m amazed that it’s deemed acceptable for humans to eat it themselves when cannibalism is illegal Confused it doesn’t make sense to me.

TrickyD · 04/03/2018 17:33

Not necessarily a good idea to give your dogs the taste of human flesh.

When I had a home birth, knock on the door, "I'm the placenta man, come to pick yours up" . It was taken off in his van to be incinerated.

Doesn't this happen any more?

Yellowshadeofgreen · 04/03/2018 17:33

You could eat it yourself.....it’s a thing Envy not envy

liz70 · 04/03/2018 17:34

"It’s human tissue, I’m amazed that it’s deemed acceptable for humans to eat it themselves when cannibalism is illegal"

Is picking off and eating your own scab illegal, then?

readytopopp · 04/03/2018 17:34

Hmm I'm an ex veggie so fussy about meat at the best of times. Been pretty much veggie most this pregnancy. In fact the smell of DP cooking mince is making me feel really sick right now 🤮

Oh why did I open this thread?

Yellowshadeofgreen · 04/03/2018 17:36

Well it’s perfect so, sure isn’t it the ultimate in ethical meat. No animals died in its production. Grin

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 04/03/2018 17:37

A whole organ is different to a bit of dried blood.

GummyGoddess · 04/03/2018 17:37

@TrickyD the midwives put mine in a biohazard bag to be taken off for incineration, they didn't leave it in the house when they left.

readytopopp · 04/03/2018 17:38

Well it's ethically farmed and mostly organic...

I’m not sure if the people saying that it would give your dogs the taste of human flesh are being serious Confused it won’t turn them into Cujo if you DID give them it :o

BarbarianMum · 04/03/2018 17:40

Not just the taste of human flesh, the taste of your baby's flesh. Seriously, just no.

readytopopp · 04/03/2018 17:41

Would save on a few cans of dog food too 🤔 I wonder how many meals it would do for? They are quite big dogs. SBTx & GSDx

OP will wake up 2 days post partum to the dogs chewing on her toes. It will be like one of those horror stories we used to scare the shit out of ourselves as kids before the internet ruined it by making horror videos instead.
