Sheep worrying, called someone out on social media. I'm sure I wasn't BU but usually don't get involved.

So someone I'm 'friends' with on FB put an 'amused' comment today about her dog disappearing today, then reappearing about 10 minutes later chasing a pack of sheep....and wishing she'd videoed it...

12 people were amused by it...

I rarely make comments on FB but couldn't stop myself commenting that the sheep could have aborted and the dog been shot and that really wasn't funny....all very politely....

I know I'm not BU but I'm astounded folk thought this was in any way amusing or acceptable.

Seriously, was I BU? Was I? ConfusedConfused

No you're not unreasonable & she's a absolute idiot!!

LadyLaSnack · 03/03/2018 18:20

Not U at all.

It’s almost lambing season and the sheep are not long off full term.

This is incredibly cruel to the sheep, and could massively affect a farmer’s income.

Not Ok or funny.

DullAndOld · 03/03/2018 18:20

I am sure she wouldn't have thought it amusing if her dog had been shot, which farmers have every right to do,,,

gallicgirl · 03/03/2018 18:21

Not at all. At this time of year, that kind of behaviour can result in dead sheep and miscarriages. Fairly sure it's criminal behaviour.

Clandestino · 03/03/2018 18:21

She was a total and absolute idiot. Any farmer would have the right to shoot the dog and he'd be completely entitled to do that.

FuzzyCustard · 03/03/2018 18:21

No, you weren't being at all U.

Aghast at the 12 who are amused...and more so at the person who posted the status. Shame she didn't video it though - could have been used in evidence.

YANBU That's all there is to say! What an idiot she is.

brownelephant · 03/03/2018 18:22

yanbu at all
your 'friends' makes a great case of why all dogs should be on lead at all times outside secure, fenced areas...

TheButterflyOfTheStorms · 03/03/2018 18:22

It’s almost lambing season and the sheep are not long off full term.

Imagine being heavily pregnant and being chased by a dog. Sad I know sheep aren't people but FFS.

needastrongone · 03/03/2018 18:23

I politely mentioned this in my comments. I'm somewhat astounded anyone would think this was in anyway amusing or justifiable whatever time of year. We live rurally ffs.

YANBU!
Very illegal and very stupid.

MistyMinge · 03/03/2018 18:24

She's a cunt. That would have really stressed the sheep out, and you're right they could have aborted. You were absolutely right to comment.

She wouldn't have been laughing if the farmer shot her dog, which he'd have been perfectly in his right to do.

I bet she hangs bags of dog shit on gate posts and stys too.Angry

PanPanPanPing · 03/03/2018 18:24

YW definitely NBU by making that comment.

Bloody hell, some people are total idiots.

needastrongone · 03/03/2018 18:24

Oh and keeping the dog on lead if recall was iffy.

She mentioned it was because there was an open gate.

I therefore mentioned that was unlikely to have been the farmers doing....

Bindibot · 03/03/2018 18:25

Soooo funny!!

A farmers livelihood put at risk, aborted lambs and if the farmer had seen possibly a dead dog, as I said sooo funny…

100% reasonable of you OP.

HisBetterHalf · 03/03/2018 18:26

Your fb friend is a tit

pestilentialboundary · 03/03/2018 18:27

A good few of the sheep have probably aborted. More will die lambing or have still borns.

Have you informed the farmer (if possible) ? Sheep are infamous for finding interesting ways to die, they don't need any help from dogs. One of my friends lost 4 ewes and about a dozen lambs due to dogs last year.

You were being very reasonable. Well done on calling her out.

RainbowGlitterFairy · 03/03/2018 18:28

YANBU, sadly there are a lot of idiots that find this funny and can't see that the fear to sheep is nearly as dangerous as the dog actually attacking them would be.

UterusUterusGhali · 03/03/2018 18:29

Sweet Jesus!

How supid of her. My feed is often full of posts showing the outcome of such attacks. (I live rurally). They are widely shared and I'd not be surprised if someone who saw her post reported it to the police or farmer.

I'd even put a well trained, livestock-safe dog on a lead in case it got shot. (And I've been shot at.) She's an idiot.

borlottibeans · 03/03/2018 18:29

I suspect a lot of people who haven't thought it through properly assume this sort of thing is harmless so I'm very glad you went on there to point out the ways in which it is not.

If her dog had been shot no doubt she'd have been all over social media talking about how unfair it was of the nasty farmer, by which point explaining all this would be too late for the poor dog.

Bluelonerose · 03/03/2018 18:31

I must admit I was confused by your title and even after I read it I still didn't realise that is was an issue until others pointed out why it isn't funny at all.

Is it possible she and the other people who thought it amusing generally didn't realise what could happen?

needastrongone · 03/03/2018 18:32

We are only 'friends' due to a mutual interest a year or two ago. I've no real idea where she actually even lives. Otherwise I would. Without outing myself, we've got a lot of close ties to the farming community, my sympathies are fully on their side.

I'm just agog folk think it's in any way amusing, funny or okay.

The 12 that thought this was okay astounded me tbh.

OP posts:
DullAndOld · 03/03/2018 18:32

yes but blue, people who live rurally know this shizz...they really do.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 03/03/2018 18:32

YANBU op. Not at all.
