My dp works at a large factory. He is at work right now, after having to walk there instead of cycling due to the snow, which wasn't to bad when he left this morning but it's been snowing non stop all afternoon and it's gotten really bad now. He says the production line has been down since 3pm with no signs of it starting up anytime soon. Apparently everyone is just standing around bored and cold and waiting for home time. Lorry's aren't delivering parts to the factory because they can't physically get there hence why the line has stopped.
Aibu to think they should cut their losses and send everyone home? I get that it's all about the £££ but surely they are losing money by not actually producing anything whilst also paying people to stand around doing nothing.
A few friends have been sent home their work places to enable them to be able to get home safely before the snow gets really bad. This is a big factory with thousands of workers who travel varying distances to get there. It's going to be hell on earth for them getting out of there, especially for those who drive - if they can even get out of the car park that is.
I just can't see any reason to keep them in when they can't do any work whilst the conditions outside get worse and worse. Maybe I'm missing something.
