Do any of you have a bag packed and ready to go if you have to get out in a hurry ? So far I've got underwhere, change of clothes and shoes. A few toiletries and an awful lot of paperwork. Oh and my bankcards

Are you planning to leave your partner?

pastabakewithcheese · 28/02/2018 20:35

No, I thought you meant a bag for your DCs from the title, not for yourself. Why would I need one?

ClaryFray · 28/02/2018 20:36

Or what? To leave your partner?

Whatshallidonowpeople · 28/02/2018 20:37

No, I own my house, why would I leave?

ClaudiaWankleman · 28/02/2018 20:38

Don’t you need your cards every day? It doesn’t seem convenient to keep them in a grab bag.

sailorcherries · 28/02/2018 20:39

I'm pretty sure the OP means a grab bag in case of emergencies/national disasters. I've seen a few people who have them - spare clothes; shoes; long life snack foods; copies of important documents; batteries; torches; sleeping bags etc kept in the back of a car.

DonutCone · 28/02/2018 20:39

In case there is a fire? Or what?

i used to have one when i was part of the disaster team for Virgin Atlantic, thankfully I was never needed !

Marmite27 · 28/02/2018 20:41

I have one for the toddler in case we go visit grandparents and decide to stay the night or have a bath there before setting off home so if they fall asleep in the car it’s just a transfer to bed.

There’s pjs, a toiletries kit, a change of clothes, a few small toys, a waterproof jacket, hat and gloves, snacks, a shelf stable ready meal and a rice pudding pot.

Me too @WorriedAndTired

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 28/02/2018 20:43

I have a bag with pjs, change of clothes, toiletries and a couple of pairs of underwear.

I’m a nanny that does last minute emergency cover day or night so it’s handy to have just to grab and go but I wouldn’t have on otherwise

skittycat · 28/02/2018 20:43

Thought this was going to be about crisps Blush

I barely have everything I need to leave the house on a good day never mind having a bag packed with essentials etc.

Springtrolls · 28/02/2018 20:43

No. If there was a fire the last thing
You would be thinking about is dragging a bag with you.
Any other emergency it doesn’t take long
To pack the essentials

Wide0penSpace · 28/02/2018 20:44

It'd be a good idea if you lived in a war torn country or on a fault line or something. I don't recall any of my family or friends ever having to leave in a hurry with their essentials in middle England though.

I've got a friend who is a prepper and plans for all sorts of eventualities. It fuels my anxiety to think like that to be honest!

happy2bhomely · 28/02/2018 20:45

I have an emergency bag. It is in case I ever have to stay in hospital or overnight somewhere with one of my dc. It contains clean clothes, mini toiletries, hairbrush, toothbrush, tissues, gum, wet wipes, coins for parking, chocolate biscuits, a fleecy blanket, headache tablets and good coffee! It means I can grab it or send someone to get it if I need it.

I have an emergency kit in my car. Silver blankets, water, walking shoes, first aid kit, window breaker and seatbelt cutter.

I have supplies of drinking water, painkillers, tinned food, bbq coal etc at home in case of a power cut etc.

All of my important papers are in one folder by the front door.

I'm not a prepper as such but it is more about preparing for if we had to evacuate to a church hall for the night because of a gas leak or something similar.

happy2bhomely · 28/02/2018 20:47

Our council website has a whole section dedicated to this. I assume most do. It even gives a suggested list of items to pack.

6triesbuttingout · 28/02/2018 20:48

Abusive partner. No kids involved they are adults. I'm just sick of the name calling, the insults and hearing that I'm a discrase, ugly, fat, old, wrinkled ( I'm 60 shit happens)

Hellywelly10 · 28/02/2018 20:51

I want crisps now! But I do try to keep my handbag ready at all times.

Kursk · 28/02/2018 20:52

Check out the Prepper section, they have loads of advice for go bag contents. Things to consider are:

Copies of all important documents.
Clothes
Snacks/water
First aid kit and any prescription meds
Torch/ batteries
Knife/multitool
Spare keys
Lighter

My bag lives in the car

6triesbuttingout · 28/02/2018 20:52

Yah toothbrush. Forgot that. Will run upstairs and add to bag thank you

OP posts:
MammaTJ · 28/02/2018 20:53

Now it makes sense.

Would having the bag put you in danger if he finds it?

It might be better to plan your escape properly. Not have a bag packed, just line everything up ready to leave.

Then pack a bag and leave when he is out.

Wide0penSpace · 28/02/2018 20:58

Sorry OP, I misunderstood. I agree with Mamma , plan your move and make it safely. Do you have somewhere safe to go?
