Why make duvet covers with tiny fiddly buttons!!!

Just argh! Why don’t all duvets come with poppers or at least packs that allow you to see what the fastenings are before you buy?

I can’t help thinking of all the time I could have saved over the years without the bloody buttons.

Or ones with buttonholes twice the size of the buttons. I feel your pain.

Lana1234 · 27/02/2018 22:32

I hate the ones with buttons too! Who thought it was a good idea!?

Justmuddlingalong · 27/02/2018 22:33

Don't worry, I've added it to my list of banned things, for when I rule the world. Grin

Dementedswan · 27/02/2018 22:33

It's so you can't undo them in the night with your toes. Fact.

Ennirem · 27/02/2018 22:34

Nah mate, button ones are the best! Nothing more infuriating than a perfectly good bedding set with two warped poppers so it flaps open at the bottom - at least you can always see on a new button!

Efferlunt · 27/02/2018 22:36

It takes forever and all the time I’m farting around with them I can hear the baby fussing and about to wake up and need to finish faffing with the duvet so I can go and stick the dummy back in.

How do they cope in hotels?

Kpo58 · 27/02/2018 22:36

You can always see on new poppers...

I accidentally tore a button off my duvet cover with my foot when asleep once. I've never done that with poppers.

GummyGoddess · 27/02/2018 22:37

I wish they did them with zips. And maybe some sort of internal anchors at the top corners to keep the duvet in place.

Justmuddlingalong · 27/02/2018 22:40

Or a fold over bottom, like a giant pillowcase?

Efferlunt · 27/02/2018 22:40

Yes Gummy, I’d pay good money to solve the top corners issue where you end up with a foot of cover at the top but no duvet. Maybe a need a new cover or duvet or both.

Someone told me (although it could be an urban legend) that in the states they make them with zips.
Can you imagine such a thing...

pastabest · 27/02/2018 22:42

I replace mine with poppers with my very own popper pliers.

I do a bit of terrible dressmaking any way so I bought the popper pliers to make a few things for the baby and replace stupid fiddly buttons on some baby clothes as well.

I now use them for all sorts, like duvets as it turns out they are ridiculously easy, and addictive, to use

Ikea do covers with zips! The set on my bed has zips on the pillow cases too Smile

MoanerLiza · 27/02/2018 22:45

I have one with a zip. It's Dorma and about 15 years old.

Bobbiepin · 27/02/2018 22:46

My mum used to refuse to buy duvet covers with buttons. I used to think she was mad but she's got a point. I recently bought a duvet set that is gorgeous but scratchy on the decorative bit, so we've taken to sleeping with the buttons at the top. It was too expensive to not use but it's the shittest duvet purchase I've made!

MilesHuntsWig · 27/02/2018 22:47

So you can race your OH to see who does them quicker surely?

BananaInPyjama · 27/02/2018 22:50

I bought my kids duvet covers from Ebay- both had zips.

Efferlunt · 27/02/2018 22:51

I’m buying the popper machine now Pasta - genius!

The dream is reality @Efferlunt and @GummyGoddess!

Dorma (Available in the U.K.) make them with zips! I'm currently lying in our bed that has a zip cover on it and I love this duvet so much that I just wash it on repeat. It's expensive but worth it!

Efferlunt · 27/02/2018 22:53

Bobbie - my MIL has a set with large decorative buttons, even on the pillows. Sure it looks nice but wtf was the designer thinking?

Jiya1954 · 27/02/2018 22:55

I had one with a zip from Sainsbury's once, I think. It was bloody marvellous. I have no idea why I got rid of it.

Troels · 27/02/2018 22:58

I prefer the buttons, I hate when I straighten the bed and poppers open, buttons hold better.
Although I've never seen one with a zip, that would be even better.

GummyGoddess · 27/02/2018 23:00

Really? The most I've ever managed to find are pillowcases with zips, but then they don't go with the bedding! Shall have a look for that brand in the morning.

Don't suppose you know how to anchor the duvet into place? Grin Sewing isn't a problem (for my mum, I cannot sew more than a button).

Ollivander84 · 27/02/2018 23:05

I have one with big ribbon ties. The cat loves it GrinHmm

AbbieLexie · 27/02/2018 23:08

I prefer buttons even though I find them fiddly. All the duvet covers with poppers have problems! Ties and zips sound good.
