To wash kids flannels after each use??

So we have DS1 who is 2.5 and DS2 who is 4 months, every bath time I use a clean flannel for each of them then put them in the washing machine, DH thinks I should use same flannel for a few days but surely this is gross/germ filled?
I always wash their faces and hands then body feet and finally bums but then if we used the same flannel the next day it would have been on their bum etc then go on faces?? I don't use a flannel myself in shower but use a bath puff thing which I change regularly but certainly not every day (however I don't face my face with it) so not sure what other flannel users do?!

Am I being too clean freak or is my DH being gross?!?

I'm not a clean freak at all, but you know what, you need to do what makes you happy and content that you're looking after your baby the best way you can.

I grew up with two flannels (one for the body, one for the -as my grandmother called them- "bits"), so I still do that, but loads of people use none, or the bar of soap, or just the one and none of us are gross or dirty.

Mine go over the towel rack to dry and I probably use them 2 or 3 days depending on how often I shower, same with the towels.

If used on bum, yes, one use is enough.
We use ours for faces only (very handy for removing make up/exfoliating) and they are rinsed and hung up and changed once a week.

Mayhemmumma · 28/02/2018 10:30

Does everyone here also wash towels after every use? I don't....wash after 2 or 3 uses. Is this gross?

giggleshizz · 28/02/2018 10:35

DD has a face flannel and a bum flannel and each gets washed after use. Not only would you not want to reuse a bum flannel but we don't have a bath every day here so even if I hang them up I find they smell a bit mildewy after a day or two.

CaurnieBred · 28/02/2018 10:40

Single use only here too. Three of us using them so, between them, dish towels and dish cloths we soon have enough to do a boil wash

TotHappy · 28/02/2018 10:54

Bum and face flannel separate when i was a kid, but shared by everyone, not one each. Flannel used only for face now but washed, oh i dont know... Every 3-4 weeks?! It never smells mildewy to me and i never hang it to dry just leave wet on the side! Oh and we use the same towels for two weeks usually too. We even share them! (me and dh)

IllustriouslyIllogical · 28/02/2018 10:56

When we used to use a flannel (decades ago) it used to get washed once a week when the towels were.

Wring it out after you've used it & you're good to go. All the bloody soap nowadays is anti-bacterial etc. so not sure how long these alleged germs will last.

newmumwithquestions · 28/02/2018 10:59

On the mumsnet scale of cleanliness I’m definitely at the ‘grim’ end of the scale for things like towel/bedsheet use.

I however get a clean flannel for each child every bath time.

liz70 · 28/02/2018 11:00

I use flannels for myself and wash them after one use, at 60°. DD3 has two sponges, rotated. After a bath I rinse the sponge thoroughly in clean warm water then put it on the bathroom radiator to dry completely, then once a week it's chucked in the machine with her towel and bathrobe, again to be washed at 60°C.

HuskyMcClusky · 28/02/2018 11:02

The thing is...there are ‘germs’ everywhere. Unless the particular germs are going to get into your mouth and make you sick, does it really matter?

I don’t think a flannel that’s been rinsed and wrung out is too filthy with harmful germs to be reused on the same child. That’s just me though.

MyBonnieLiesOverTheOcean · 28/02/2018 11:04

Never used a flannel in my entire life. I have hands.

Who can be bothered with all that flannel washing?!?

liz70 · 28/02/2018 11:08

No seperate face and bum flannels here. Wash routine in this order - face and neck, torso and arms and hands, underarms, legs, feet, nether regions, backside, wipe down inside of bathtub (if having a bath), into laundry bag (flannel, not me).

RoughPatchMum · 28/02/2018 11:09

Another one here who doesn’t use flannels, except to wipe DS’s face after meals. That’s used once or twice depending on how dirty his face was. In the bath, I just wash him with my hands! Do people really scrub bums with a flannel? DS is only 2 and still in nappies so his bum is clean when he goes into the bath anyway as I’ve just taken his nappy off!

liz70 · 28/02/2018 11:10

I really don't want to scrub my bum with my hands, ta. The washing machine washes the flannels, not me.

AngryGinger · 28/02/2018 11:14

Towels don’t need washing after each use, but flannels I would only use once before washing.

liz70 · 28/02/2018 11:16

"Do people really scrub bums with a flannel?"

See above. (This is in danger of turning into a pervy how do wash your bits thread, so I'll leave it there.)

DH and DD2 use those pan scrubbie thingies. We have about six squillion of them, so one use each too then washed at 60 like other stuff.

IllustriouslyIllogical · 28/02/2018 11:27

I really don't want to scrub my bum with my hands, ta.

No, you just rub it with a flannel - that's held in your hands - and unless you have a vulcan death grip, you'll be touching bits of it that have touched your arse.

On my list of things to not touch, my own arse isn't on it at all!!

liz70 · 28/02/2018 11:31

Some people choose to wash with hands, some sponges, some flannels, some muslins, whatever. Personal choice.

HuskyMcClusky · 28/02/2018 11:40

On my list of things to not touch, my own arse isn't on it at all!!

🤣 Seriously, though...

liz70 · 28/02/2018 11:56

What was I saying about pervy threads?

GnotherGnu · 28/02/2018 17:35

I really don't want to scrub my bum with my hands, ta.

Why? Don't you wipe when you go to the loo?
